Ship Design Visualization System base on Augmented Reality (증강현실 기반의 선박설계 시각화 시스템)

  • Augmented Reality (AR) enables the enhanced realism and interaction by providing the overlaid digital information on the user's view of the physical world. In this paper, we propose an AR-based ship design visualization system for presenting ship 3D model in smart phones or table PCs. The proposed system compute corner points and feature points by contour finding method and harris corner detector, and build a ship-design drawing database. By using SURF algorithm, key feature points are extracted from ship-design drawing image which is obtained by mobile camera. Then ship-design drawing image is recognized by matching the feature points stored in DB and extracted key feature points. 3D ship structures are visualized by overlaying the ship-design drawing image on the smart phone or table PC's screen. Compared to conventional 2D ship-design, proposed system helps to easily understand the structures of the ship and reduce the business design period. Thus, Enhanced competitiveness of business is expected.

항로표지 시뮬레이터용 등명기 시각화 모델링 분석

  • 항로표지 시뮬레이터는 우리나라 주요 해역의 지형적 환경적 특성 및 여기에서 운항하는 선박들과 해상교통 특성을 고려한 시뮬레이션 환경을 항로표지 설계자에게 제공하여, 항로표지 배치 및 선박 운항시 안정성 확보를 제공할 수 있다. 항로표지는 색깔이 중요한 역할을 한다. 그 중 주간에 보이는 항로표지 색깔보다는 야간에 보이는 항로표지 등명기의 불빛이 더욱 중요하다. 이에 항로표지 설계자에게 실제환경과 유사한 시뮬레이션 환경을 제공하기 위해서는 실제 등명기의 등색과 유사하게 구현이 되어야한다. 그러나 시뮬레이션에서의 항로표지 등명기의 등색은 디스플레이 특성에 의해 색상 왜곡이 발생한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 실제 등명기의 색도값을 측정 및 분석하며, 분석값과 유사한 색상의 샘플 등색을 비교 분석하여 시뮬레이션에서 실제 등명기와 유사하게 항로표지 시뮬레이터의 등명기 모델링에 적용하였다.

  • Recently, the development of Maritime Service Portfolios (MSPs) for the safe navigation of ship has been discussed internationally. For the successful service of the MSPs, first of all, studies for the standardization about the structure and data structure of MSPs should be preceded. Also, it is necessary to evaluate and assess whether the services are effective for safe navigation, and provided data and portrayal methods are proper. However, because great dangers will be accompanied when untested MSPs about their effectiveness and safety are applied in real ship navigation, it is necessary that effectiveness and safety of the MSPs should be proven under various navigational conditions and environments by simulation. In this paper, we propose a 3D navigation simulation system using desktop PC environment, which is proper for evaluating the effectiveness of MSPs. The system consists of three modules which are simulation scenario editor, 3D visualization of navigational environment and 2D navigational equipment. The scenario editor module provides an environment setting for simulation, such as properties, routes and positions of vessels and aids to navigations. It also provides functions to create a scenario for the simulation to operate. Additionally, the 3D visualization module provides 3D navigational environment which shows interplay between geographical and navigational environment based on the created scenario. The 2D navigational equipment module provides visualization functions of various navigational equipment, shows the interaction between ship's navigational equipment and ship's environment. The simulation scenario, in which various kinds of ships are routing in the port, is created by the developed simulation system, and experimented whether this developed system is appropriate to evaluate and assess the MSPs developed by the International Maritime Organization.

An Evaluation Technique for the Path-following Control Performance of Autonomous Surface Ships (자율운항선박의 항로추정성능 평가기법 개발에 관한 연구)

  • A series of studies on the development of autonomous surface ships have been promoted in domestic and foreign countries. One of the main technologies for the development of autonomous ships is path-following control, which is closely related to securing the safety of ships at sea. In this regard, the path-following performance of an autonomous ship should be first evaluated at the design stage. The main aim of this study was to develop a visual and quantitative evaluation method for the path-following control performance of an autonomous ship at the design stage. This evaluation technique was developed using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-based path-following control model together with a line-of-sight (LOS) guidance algorithm. CFD software was utilized to visualize waves around the ship, performing path-following control for visual evaluation. In addition, a quantitative evaluation was carried out using the difference between the desired and estimated yaw angles, as well as the distance difference between the planned and estimated trajectories. The results demonstrated that the ship experienced large deviations from the planned path near the waypoints while changing its course. It was also found that the fluid phenomena around the ship could be easily identified by visualizing the flow generated by the ship. It is expected that the evaluation method proposed in this study will contribute to the visual and quantitative evaluation of the path-following performance of autonomous ships at the design stage.

  • 우리나라 항만 입출항 통항 선박의 대형화, 고속화에 따른 해양안전사고가 증가하고 있어 항만 연안 해역에서의 해상교통 안전 확보가 절실히 요구되고 있는 실정으로, 최근 국제항로표지협회(IALA)에서 항로표지 설계와 배치계획에 대한 의사결정을 지원할 수 있는 항로표지 전문 기능 시뮬레이터의 개발과 주요 항로의 항로표지 설계 및 계획 등을 검증할 수 있는 시스템 필요성을 제기하였다. 우리나라 주요 항로의 항로표지 설계와 적정 배치 여부 등을 검증하고 보완할 수 있는 시뮬레이션 시스템이 필요하며 3차원 가상현실 기법을 이용하여 항로표지의 신설 및 이설에 따른 여러 가지 효과를 직관적으로 파악하고 대상 해역의 특성이 고려된 다양한 해상교통환경 변화에 따른 항로표지의 신설 및 이설 효과를 선박 운항자 관점에서 검증하거나, 새로운 항만 항로 건설시 최적 항로표지 배치에 대한 의사결정을 지원하기 위한 항로표지용 시뮬레이터 시스템 개발이 진행되고 있다. 이러한 항로표지 시뮬레이터 개발에 필요한 항로표지 관련 속성에 대하여 기술하였다.

A Study On the Design of Preventive Index of Maritime Accidents (선박사고 예방지수 설계에 관한 연구)

  • Despite the fact that navigation technology and educational programs were developed and maritime law has been enforced strictly, the number of maritime accidents has not dropped significantly. In order to reduce traffic accidents at sea, the preventive index for maritime accidents is designed and measured to evaluate and visualize the activities performed. The survey module is composed of preventive domains such as education, engineering, enforcement and information. The index was abstracted from the statistics of maritime accidents causes(2010~2012). It can be evaluated by using the newly developed survey modules. It was found that there is some correlation between the index value and the accident rate of maritime traffic. It is expected that this index will become another useful tool to help prevent maritime accidents.

  • As vessels are faster and bigger, higher safety navigation techniques have been required. In marine traffic area, buoy is to be one of the most important equipment, so that it should be built stable and robust. Verification in design level is good to accomplish it. This paper tries to implement visual program to confirm the external stability, which shows the movement on water by external factors such as wind, tide and current. Considering further requirements for additional influences or functions, design architecture for program introduces the concept of software component. Using Quest3D as the graphic tool, visual programming with software component concept can be implemented.

  • 해상 ICT의 발전과 e-Navigation 도입 및 자율운항선 도입에 따라 해상 통신망의 종류와 범위가 확장되고 있고 디지털 항로표지 서비스의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 어선원의 고령화, 해안 배후 단지의 발전에 의한 배후광, 기상여건 및 진보된 선내 항해 장비 사용 미숙 등으로 항로표지의 시각적·전자적 인지력이 저하되어 선박 안전 운항이 담보하기 어려운 상황에서 선박의 운항 상황 및 주변 해역 운항 상황·지리적 여건을 고려한 맞춤형 가상 디지털 항로표지 서비스는 항로표지의 전자적 식별을 용이하게 하고 안전 운항 유도 서비스로 해양 사고 예방에 도움이 될 것이다. 본 연구에서는 자율운항선 대응을 위한 디지털 항로표지 서비스 및 선박 운항 상황·지리적 여건을 고려한 적극적인 맞춤형 가상 디지털 항로표지 서비스 시스템의 설계방안을 제시하였다.

Research on the Development of Distance Metrics for the Clustering of Vessel Trajectories in Korean Coastal Waters (국내 연안 해역 선박 항적 군집화를 위한 항적 간 거리 척도 개발 연구)

  • This study developed a new distance metric for vessel trajectories, applicable to marine traffic control services in the Korean coastal waters. The proposed metric is designed through the weighted summation of the traditional Hausdorff distance, which measures the similarity between spatiotemporal data and incorporates the differences in the average Speed Over Ground (SOG) and the variance in Course Over Ground (COG) between two trajectories. To validate the effectiveness of this new metric, a comparative analysis was conducted using the actual Automatic Identification System (AIS) trajectory data, in conjunction with an agglomerative clustering algorithm. Data visualizations were used to confirm that the results of trajectory clustering, with the new metric, reflect geographical distances and the distribution of vessel behavioral characteristics more accurately, than conventional metrics such as the Hausdorff distance and Dynamic Time Warping distance. Quantitatively, based on the Davies-Bouldin index, the clustering results were found to be superior or comparable and demonstrated exceptional efficiency in computational distance calculation.
