The Effects of Energy Price Increase on Automobile Industry (에너지가격 상승이 자동차산업에 미치는 영향)

  • This article analyzes the effects of energy price increase induced by GHGs mitigation policy on automobile industry empirically. An increase in energy price due to GHGs mitigation policy does not have a significant effect on the production and the value-added in automobile industry. Electricity price has a negative effect on the production and the value-added in automobile industry, but it is not significant. However, employment is significantly affected by a change in electricity price. Export is also affected negatively, but the effect is insignificant. These results imply that GHGs mitigation policy such as carbon tax might affect adversely the employment in automobile industry. Especially, their effects on employment are significant. Therefore, some moderating measures to relieve the adverse effects on employment in automobile industry should be called upon with the implementation of GHGs mitigation policy.

Sizes of Union Membership at Sector- and Industry-Levels and Their Shifts in Korea: A Micro Socioeconomic Analysis (국내의 부문 및 산업별 조합원의 규모와 그 변화 : 미시적인 사회·경제적 관점의 분석)

  • This paper illuminates the patterns of growth and declines in sizes of union membership in metal, chemical, financial, and auto transport sectors in three distinct periods during the last four decades from 1963 to 2003. This paper also calculates union densities in auto assembly, auto supply, and shipbuilding industries of the metal sector, cement, petroleum refining, and pharmaceutical industries of the chemical sector, private banking industry of the financial sector, and city bus industry of the auto transport sector. Such diversities in both sizes of union membership and union densities among sectors and industries turned out to be associated with attitudes and choices of employers and unions in interaction with sector- and industry-specific economic (growth stage and path), institutional (degrees of government intervention), and social (demographic features of employees and prevailing sizes of firms) environment. Such finding shows that theoretical reasonings on sizes of union membership and union densities across sectors and industries in advanced nations are also relevantly useful to analyze the Korean case.

An Analysis of Price Determinants of Rental Housing for Expatriates Working at Foreign Firms in Seoul (서울 외국기업 주재원 임대주택의 가격결정요인 분석)

  • The purpose of the study is to present an analysis of the expatriate leasing market for highly-paid professionals residing in Seoul. The effects of physical and locational attributes, range of amenities along with expat's national and industrial attributes on housing rents are being empirically evaluated based on transactions. Using lease transaction data for the period of 1994 through 2013, the results show that physical and locational attributes which have been proved to affect conventional housing value are also confirmed to affect leasing housing rent for expatriate. Also this study finds the following results. First, housing rent is found to be influenced by foreign residents' occupation. Therefore banking, petrochemical, insurer and pharmaceutical company affect positively on housing rent while mechanic firms influenced negatively to rent. Second, housing rent is found to be affected by foreign residents' nationalities. The results indicate USA and the United Kingdom have a positive effect while French has a negative effect on rent.

  • The purpose of this study is to recognize the importance of sustaining the coal industry in spite of the declaration of new climate change regime. Due to the importance to have the ability to control the supply and demand for energy source, this study will present the ground supporting the need to save some fixed amount of coal to carry out this task. The relative quantity of fossil fuel like coal and oil consumed as an energy source is reduced due to the increasing portion of renewable energy sources. Nevertheless, we can verify the fact that the position as a main energy source in demand for and supply of electric power is still valid. And the optimal amount of coal storage is estimated through the average annual amount of demand derived from preceding studies. In this context, it is very urgent problem to maintain the coal industry as a industrial policy for the sustainable national economic growth through the coal storage policy and to determine the optimal amount of annual storage.

Economic Impact of Gwangyang Bay Area Shipping and Port Logistic Industry on the Regional Economy: A Regional Input-Output Analysis (광양만권 해운항만산업의 지역경제 파급효과 분석: 지역산업연관분석 중심)

  • This study analyzes the economic impact of the shipping and port logistics industry in Gwangyang Bay Area on the regional economy. For this purpose, the study constructs an input-output table of 29 sectors for 2010 in the area. The main findings are as follows. In terms of production, value added, and share of employment, the regional shipping and port logistics industry accounts for approximately 10.8 percent, 6.0 percent, and 2.9 percent of the national shipping and port logistics industry, respectively. Moreover, the economic impact of the industry on the regional economy is estimated to be an increase in terms of production of about 6 trillion Korean won), to be an increase in value added of about 2.5 million Korean won, and an increase of about 16,000 in employment. Furthermore, the industry is found to have strong inter-industry linkages with the main manufacturing as well as the main producer service industries.

An Analysis of the Regional Economic Impact of Korea Shipbuilding Industry by Use of the Regional Input-Output Model: Case in Jeonnam, Korea (지역산업연관분석을 통한 한국 조선산업의 경제적 파급효과 분석: 전남지역을 중심으로)

  • This study has analysed riffle effect of shipbuilding business on regional economy in Jeonnam. For the analysis on connection to regional business, the most favored way to estimate economic effect of a certain industry in the nation and overseas, has been adopted. As a result of analysis, in case of 1,908,800 million won turnover in shipbuilding in Jeonnam, it would induce about 3,038,624 million won of production, about 940,656 million won of added value, about 13,361 employment and about 702,056 million won of income. Seeing production riffle effects of shipbuilding industry in Jeonnam on other businesses in the same area, it is found out to influence in order of on the primary industry metal products 458,784 million won, chemical products 128,250 million won, metal products 71,498 million won and on petrol and coal products 50,829 million won. Like this, shipbuilding industry is highly connected with metal and chemical industries, which make a cluster in eastern area of Jeonnam, suggesting that growth of shipbuilding industry in Jeonnam would maximize inter-industrial synergy effect in the region.

  • 본 연구는 기후변화협약 대응을 위한 울산광역시 사례로 화학 산업의 온실가스 인벤토리 구축 및 공정진단을 통해 온실가스 배출 저감 결과를 나타내었다. 또한 기업체의 기후변화 대응에 대한 방향을 제시하였다. 울산지역은 산업단지 중심으로 석유화학, 자동차, 조선 등 에너지 다소비업체가 많으며, 이산화탄소 배출 저감을 체계적으로 실시 할 경우 국가적 차원에서 이산화탄소 배출량을 상당히 줄일 수 있을 것으로 판단되어 10개 기업체 대상으로 본 연구를 실시하였다. 온실가스 배출량은 최종에너지를 기준으로 산정한 경우 2004년 58,533천 톤 $CO_2$이며, 동일 년도 전국 온실가스 배출량인 592,600천톤 $CO_2$의 약 10%를 차지한다. 향후 2013년부터 한국이 2차 의무감축대상국이 될 경우 1990년도 온실 가스 배출 대비 5.2%의 감축률을 부여 받는다는 가정으로 경제적 손실액을 추정한 결과, 울산시의 경제적 손실은 1조에 가까운 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 울산지역은 최종 에너지소비가 2004년도에 전국 대비 12.5%로 매년 상승하고, 특히 2004년 1인당 최종에너지 소비의 경우 전국 평균은 3.38TOE이며, 울산시는 19.05TOE로 약 6배로 상당히 높게 나타났다. 또한 에너지 소비는 전국적인 규모로 비교하여 볼 때 점진적으로 증가하는 추세를 보이고 있다. 2003년의 경우 전국에너지 소비의 12.3%를 점유 하였던 것이 2010년에는 239.18백만 TOE로써 전국에너지 사용량의 14%를 점유 할 것이며, 점차 증가할 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 산업부문에서 에너지 사용비율이 80%이상으로 전국대비 에너지사용량이 상대적으로 높은 울산지역에서는 산업부문에서 온실가스발생량이 상당히 높은 것으로 예상 된다. 10개 기업체 중 5개 기업체의 온실가스 배출량 산정 및 인벤토리 구축 결과 온실가스 배출량의 공정에 따른 직접배출이 높은 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 에너지 및 온실가스 저감을 위해 올 해 약 온실가스저감 227,554만원 경제적 효과가 나타났다. 또한 온실가스 이산화탄소 50,740 Ton/yr 절감효과를 발생하였다.

  • 방식 코팅 기술은 조선해양산업은 물론 에너지, 철강 및 비철 소재, 건설 산업 등 산업 전반에서 폭넓게 적용되고 있다. 또한 산업 고도화에 따라 점차 가혹해지는 소재의 적용 환경을 고려해보면 향후 지속적으로 산업 수요가 증대될 것으로 예상할 수 있는 기술이다. 특히 아크 열용사법을 이용한 방식 코팅 기술은 미국이나 일본과 같은 선진국에서는 해양플랜트, 석유 시추시설 등 대형 해양 구조물은 물론 다리, 항만시설과 같은 철재 또는 시멘트 구조물의 방식 기술로 널리 적용되어 일반화된 기술이다. 그러나 국내에서는 아직까지도 초기 비용 상승 및 미약한 관련 기술 등의 이유로 대부분 방식도료를 사용하고 있는 실정이다. 그리하여 단기 수명에 따른 재시공 시 많은 환경오염을 유발하는 방식도료를 대체할 수 있는 아크 열용사법을 이용한 방식코팅 기술에 대한 관심과 수요가 점차 증가되고 있다. 그 일환으로 본 연구에서는 해양 구조물 강재의 방식을 위해 니켈계 용사재료를 이용하여 아크 열용사 코팅을 실시한 후 다양한 전기화학적 실험을 통해 내식성을 평가하고자 하였다. 아크 열용사 코팅은 구조용 강재 SS400강에 대하여 니켈합금 선재(1.6 Ø)를 사용하여 실시하였다. 용사 시 용사거리는 200 mm, 공기압력은 약 $7kg/cm^2$ 정도로 유지하면서 용사코팅을 실시하여 약 $200-250{\mu}m$ 두께로 코팅 층을 형성시켰다. 그리고 전기화학적 실험은 천연해수 속에서 자체 제작한 홀더(holder)를 이용하여 $3.14cm^2$의 용사코팅 층만을 노출시켜 실시하였다. 그리고 기준전극은 은/염화은 전극을, 대극은 백금전극을 사용하였다. 전기화학적 실험을 통해 부동태 특성 및 용사코팅 층 표면의 양극 용해반응 특성을 분석하기 위한 양극분극 실험은 OCP로부터 +3.0 V까지 실시하였다. 또한 부식전위 및 부식전류밀도 분석을 위한 타펠분석은 OCP를 기준으로 -0.25에서 +0.25 V까지 분극시켜 실시하였다. 그리고 주사전자현미경과 3D 분석을 통해 부식손상 표면을 관찰하였다. 그 결과 니켈합금으로 용사코팅된 강재의 내식성이 상당히 향상되었다.

The Effect of a Change in Natural Gas Price on Korean Economy (천연가스가격 변화의 경제적 효과)

  • This paper is concerned with the effect of an increase in the import price of LNG on the Korean economy and industries. A computable general equilibrium analysis is applied to compute the comparative-statical effect of 10% rise of LNG price. The price increase places relatively heavy burden on the city gas, oil products and thermal power, decreasing their outputs and domestic sales by relatively larger percentages than other industries. The 10% increase in the LNG price reduces GDP by 0.4% and raises the general price level by 0.08%. The increase in oil price resulting in the same decreasing rate of GDP caused by the 10% LNG price rise turns out to raise the general price level and reduce the consumer's welfare in terms of equivalent variation by less percentage than the increase in LNG price.

Rethinking Clusters : Towards a More Open and Evolutionary Approach (전통적 산업집적지의 변화과정과 경제적 성과)

  • Ousters have become a key focus of interest and analysis over the last decade or so, informed by the work of the Harvard business economist Michael Porter. Recent research, however, suggests that the classic Porterian conception of clusters needs to be rethought. In particular, the idea that clusters are geogaphically bounded and integrated units whose primary link to the outside world is through the export of goods and services to global markets is highly Questionable, if not untenable. Relational approaches to clusters and regional development stress the importance of the wider networks and 'pipelines' through which knowledge is exchanged with key partners and collaborators located outside of the particular cluster in question. Rather than the main external links being those between leading firms and global markets, firms may engage in a range of global relations with collaborators and suppliers. This paper address the challenge of rethinking clusters in the light of the recent emphasis on global networks md connections, drawing on experience from m old industrial region in Western Europe Scotland. In assessing cluster experiences and initiatives in Scotland, I examine the development of the oil and gas and electronics clusters. In conclusion, I suggest that cluster initiatives me only likely to generate lasting benefits for the region in question if there is significant local ownership md control of key industries and clusters.
