Effect of Formation of Segmented Fractures Induced by Fluid Injection on Major Design Parameters (수압파쇄균열의 분할생성 시 주요 설계변수에 대한 영향)

  • Rock fracturing technique through fluid injection into the wellbore has been widely used to extract geothermal heat and to enhance oil and gas production. Single fracture formation is ideal for the production. However, it is very difficult to form single fracture formation. Instead, the formation of segmented fracture is a common phenomenon. Therefore, design parameters are expected to be different from those of single fracture because of mechanical interaction between segmented fractures. In this paper, design parameters such as length, aperture, and net pressure are evaluated by using model of segmented fracture in which numerical technique is incorporated to consider mechanical interaction between segments. Results show that the existence of fracture segmentation affects design parameters in fracturing treatment in rock by fluid injection.

Basin evolution and provenance of . sediments of the Cretaceous Poongam sedimentary Basin (백악기 풍암 퇴적분지의 생성 진화와 퇴적물 기원)

  • The Cretaceous Poongam sedimentary Basin in Kangwon-do, Korea consists alluvial deposits of conglomerates, sandstones, mudstones or siltstones, and volcaniclastics. The Poongam Basin was formed as a fault margin sag or a transpressional basin developed along a strike-slip fault zone, and received huge amount of clastic sediments from the adjacent fault-scaip. It formed an aggrading alluvial fan system and a volcaniclast-supplied marginal lake environment, while tectonic activity and volcanism attenuated toward the end of basin formation. Following the Folk's classification, the sandstones of the Poongam Basin are identified as lithic wackes or feldspathic wackes. The areal and sequential variation of the mineral composition in the sandstones is not distinct. The results of K-Ar age dating from the intruding andesites, volcaniclastics and volcanic fragments in sedimentary rocks show a range of 70 Ma to 84 Ma. It suggests that volcarism occurred sequentially within a relatively short period as the pre-, syn-, and post-depositional events. It was the short period in the late Cretaceous that the basin had evolved i.e., the basin formation, the sediment input and fill, and the , intrusion and extrusion of volcanic rocks occurred. The Poongam sedimentary sequence is a typical tectonic-controlled coarse sedimentary facies which is texturally immature.

The Yemi Breccia : Origin and Stratigraphic Implications (예미각력암 : 성인과 층서적 의미)

  • The Yemi Breccia has been reported as a separate formation near Yemi area, Kangwondo. This formation overlies the Maggot Formation of the Joseon Supergroup unconformably, and is overlain by the Goseong Shale conformably. Based on the field observation and textural examination of the Yemi Breccia, the breccia beds are interpreted as soluton-collapse breccia beds, which were formed by the dissolution of the pre-existing evaporites. The evaporites were precipitated during the deposition of the upper part of the Maggot Formation. Therefore, the Yemi Breccia should not be regarded as a separate formation, instead, it should be considered to be a upper part of the Maggot Formation. This implies that the overlying Goseong Shale and Goseong Limestone can be correlated with the Jigunsan and Duwibong Formtions, respectively.

  • 바이오디젤이란 식물성 기름, 동물성 지방, 폐식용유 등의 재생 가능한 자원을 촉매 존재 하에 알코올과 반응시켜 생성되는 에스테르 혼합물을 말하며 경유와 물성이 유사하므로 경유에 혼합하여 압축착화 방식인 디젤엔진에 사용할 수 있다. 그러나 바이오디젤은 경유에 비하여 탄소-탄소 간 이중결합을 가지고 있는 성분을 많이 함유하고 있기 때문에 공기에 의해 산화가 일어나기 쉽다. 일반적으로 폐놀계 향산화제인 t-buthylhydroquinone(TBHQ)를 사용하여 산화안정성을 향상시키나 국내에서 사용되는 산화방지제는 전량 수입에 의존하고 있어 제품 개발에 의한 국산화가 시급한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 폐유지로부터 생산한 바이오디젤의 산화안정성 향상을 위하여 폐놀 및 아민계 등의 산화방지제를 합성하여 바이오디젤에 적용하였으며, 다양한 물성시험방법을 적용하여 석유 및 석유대체연료 사업법에서 규정하는 바이오디젤의 품질기준을 확인하였다. 또한 EN 14112 바이오디젤 산화안정성 시험방법으로 폐놀 및 아민계 등의 산화안정성을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 산학연 공동기술개발 1차년도 사업으로 한국화학연구원과 공동으로 수행하였으며, 산화방지제 적용평가를 통해 우수한 제품을 선정하여 2차년도에는 차량 테스트를 통해 연료 첨가제로서의 적합성을 검증할 예정이다.

  • This study is concerned with the emission characteristics of kerosene fan heater, which is burned with kerosene and water droplets simultaneously in the burner, in order to prohibit the emissions of harmful exhaust gas and reduce smell caused by incomplete combustion, and the addition of water droplets to the conventional kerosene fan heater was performed by ultrasonic atomizer. For the investigation of this study, the measurement of exhaust gas components and exhaust gas temperature was carried out by using an automatic combustion gas analyser and $NO_x$ analyser, and the measurement of consumption weight of oil and water was obtained by using electric digital balance. Consequently, according as the water percent weight ratio of about $21{\sim}23%$ was supplied for this study, it was found that the combustion-generated $NO_x$ and CO emissions were reduced very largely, but the emissions of $O_2\;and\;CO_2$ and the temperature of exhaust gas were not changed.

Liquefaction Characteristics of HDPE by Pyrolysis (HDPE의 열분해에 의한 액화 특성)

  • Pyrolysis of high density polyethylene(HDPE) was carried out to find the effects of temperature and time on the pyrolysis. The starting temperature and activation energy of HDPE pyrolysis increased with increasing heating rate. In general, conversion and liquid yield continuously increased with pyrolysis temperature and pyrolysis time. This tendency is very sensitive with pyrolysis time, especially at 45$0^{\circ}C$. Pyrolysis temperature has more influence on the conversion than pyrolysis time. Each liquid product formed during pyrolysis was classified into gasoline, kerosene, light oil and wax according to the distillation temperature based on the petroleum product quality standard of Korea Petroleum Quality Inspection Institute. As a result, the amount of liquid products produced during HDPE pyrolysis at 45$0^{\circ}C$ was in the order of light oil > wax > kerosene > gasoline, and at 475$^{\circ}C$ and 50$0^{\circ}C$, it was wax > light > oil > kerosene > gasoline.

  • Alluvial fan delta often extends into deep water, forming steep-faced delta front. Depositional features of modern steep-faced fan-delta slope and prodelta are characterized by slump scar, chute/channel, swale, lobe, splay and debris fall. These features largely originate from sediment failure or sediment-laden underflows (sediment-gravity flows) off river mouth. Sedimentary facies of equivalent ancient systems comprise sheetlike and/or wedged bodies of gravelstone and sandstones, slump-scar and -fill, chute/channel-fills, and sheetlike, lobate and slump mass on steeply-inclined fan-delta foreset and prodelta.

  • Two-dimensional gravity and magnetic models were constructed for seismic profiles in Block Ⅵ-2, offshore Korea. For each seismic profile, a longer length model showing geometric configurations of all employed polygonal bodies and an expanded version of the area of interests were made. The results of this modeling study indicate 1) that the depth to the deeper basement surface appear to be shallower than indicated in the seismic sections, 2) that the Middle Miocene section (the bottom formations in the models) appears to contain significant amounts of volcanic materials, 3) that identification and/or determination of depth to the top of basement is difficult in the study area due to thick volcanic materials in the lowermost formation (Middle Miocene), and 4) that the study area is unfavorable for hydrocarbon generation and accumulation due to wide spread volcanic activities during the Middle Miocene Epoch. The maximum calculated depth to the magnetic basement in the study area is approximately $4{\cal}km$ sub-sea.

  • With petroleum reserves dwindling, interest has been increasing worldwide in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FT) as a method of producing synthetic liquid fuels and chemicals from coal, natural gas or biomass. In general, FT synthesis is operated through the gas phase fixed-bed reaction system. Recently, there are lots of study in supercritical fluid due to unique characteristics such as the quick diffusion of reactant gas, effective removal of reaction heat, and the in-situ extraction of high molecular weight hydrocarbon, such as wax. In this study, our major aim is to obtain a deeper insight into the effect of the type of support on the reaction performance over a supported cobalt catalyst in a fixed bed reactor.
