Policy Implications for the Success of a Trekking Time Restriction Policy in National Parks (국립공원 입산시간지정제 정착을 위한 정책 제언)

  • In this paper, we examined factors that affect the success of a policy on trekking time restriction using questionnaire survey data collected from the visitors of seven national parks where the trekking time restriction policy is in force as of 2014. Results suggest that the trekking time restriction policy has been successfully publicized. In total, 60.7% of the survey respondents were aware of trekking time restrictions in the national parks they were visiting. Using exploratory factor analysis, we identified three latent factors (visitors' careless trekking, park rangers' insufficient management and visitors' unpreparedness) that the visitors perceived the causes of trekking accidents in the national parks. Multiple regression analysis on the three extracted factors and respondents' socioeconomic status shows that the respondents who read information signs in national parks and who judged visitors' careless trekking and visitors' unpreparedness as the causes of trekking accidents tended to agree more with restricting trekking time. These results indicate that visitors who do not agree with the trekking time restriction tend to attribute trekking accidents in national parks not to individual visitors, suggesting that educating visitors is more effective in preventing trekking accidents in national parks than installing and maintaining safety facilities by park rangers.

Facility Management Strategy of a Korea National Park Based on Importance-Performance Analysis (중요도-성취도 분석에 기초한 국립공원 시설관리 방안에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to approach more analytical facility management strategies for Korea national parks based on visitor awareness. Total number of 214 survey questionnaire of the visitors to a mountain type Deogyu National Park and a coastal type Taean National Park was analyzed employing importance-performance analysis. The result shows that Taean National Park has 4 attributes in 'keep up good work', 3 attributes in 'low priority', and 2 attributes in 'possible overkill'. Deogyu National Park has 3 attributes in 'keep up good work', 4 attributes in 'low priority', and 1 attribute in 'concentrate here'. Satisfaction level of the facility was above average and total satisfaction level of the visit was also higher than 3 points for each park. Deogyu National Park scored higher in both criteria, while Taean National Park was evaluated negative in all detailed items. It may be attributed to a visitor difference between a coastal type national park and a mountain type national park. To increase visitor satisfaction, it is a requirement for facility management to be based on use characteristic of an individual park by the type.

The Faunae before and after Creating the Solbangjuk Wetland Ecological Park Located in Jecheon-City were Compared (제천시 솔방죽 습지생태공원 조성 전과 후의 동물상 비교)

  • In this study, the faunae before and after creating the Solbangjuk Wetland Ecological Park located in Jecheon-city were compared. As a result, the change of the fauna according to the creation of the park showed the phenomenon that the species having the strong wilderness are reduced and the rate of general species become higher. In addition, the species which receive the restrictions for moving such as mammals, amphibians and reptiles are being gradually decreased by the increased visitors owing to the creation of the park. Moreover because there was the case where group of fishes have died caused by discharging and working the water in the reservoir during the creation process of the park, the supplementation work for this is required. However, it showed that the insects sucking the honey from flowers in the composed flower garden after creating the park, and the aquatic insects which live in this park that the stable water system for the growth of wetland plants is maintained, are increased, respectively. As a result of this survey, because the reservoir for agriculture adjacent to the residential area is generally small, the securing of the habitat space for the wild animals living in this park when creating the ecological parks seems to be necessary. The countermeasure should be considered so that some areas of the reservoir can be maintained in their natural state by adjusting the visitors' trails and the position of facilities for in order to secure the habitat of the wild animals.

  • This study was conducted to identify various types of activities of payment contract for ecosystem services. As supporting services, 12 types of activities were derived: fallow, eco-friendly crop cultivation, shelter creation management, etc. As regulating services, 5 types of activities were derived: stream environment purification, creation and management of riparian vegetation, creation and management of forests for responding to climate change, etc. As cultural services, five types of activities were derived: creation and management of landscape forests, creation and management of ecological trails, managing ecosystem conservation, etc.

  • 전남대 잡초학연구실은 유전공학기술을 이용하여 수확량을 최고 26%까지 증산할 수 있는 다수확성 벼를 개발하는데 성공하여 화제를 모으고 있다. 이번에 개발된 다수확 형질전환 벼가 상용화되면서 현재 5백만톤 수준의 우리나라 벼 생산량이 7백만톤까지 늘어나게 된다. 구자옥교수가 1978년 부임하면서 개설된 잡초학연구실은 제초제연구, 제초제 저항성 잡초종의 생리생태에 대한 연구, 제초제 저항성 벼품종 개발사업 등을 진행하고 있다.

  • 정부의 '혁신성장 8대 선도사업'이 발표된 이후 그중 하나인 스마트팜이 주목받고 있다. 스마트팜이란 축사에 정보통신기술을 접목해 원격 자동으로 가축의 생육환경을 적정하게 유지 관리할 수 있는 농장을 뜻한다. 정부가 첨단 ICT(정보통신기술)를 융 복합한 스마트농업을 지원하고 생태 친환경적 농업에 대한 연구개발을 강화하겠다는 농정 공약을 제시한 바에 따라 2014년 기준 축산 23호에 불과했던 스마트팜이 2017년에 790호로 증가했다. 정부가 2020년까지 스마트축사를 5,750호까지 늘려나간다는 계획을 발표함으로써 축산업에 스마트팜의 접목이 꾸준할 것으로 보인다. 이에 본지는 '스마트팜'의 선두주자로서 전북 정읍에 있는 농업회사법인 미소농장(주) 김종문 대표를 찾았다.

  • 아웃도어 열풍과 자연생태공원 조성 등으로 야외활동이 증가하고, 그에 따라 야생화를 접할 기회가 늘어나는 추세이다. 스마트 기기의 보유율이 증가하고 있는 현실을 반영하여, 스마트 기기를 이용한 등산 탐방로, 생태공원 등에 조성되어 있는 야생화를 판별해 줄 어플리케이션을 개발하고자 한다. 이 논문에서는 촬영한 야생화 이미지에서 배경과 대상을 분리하는 방법과 색상을 추출하는 방법을 분석하고 데이터베이스에서 검색하여 사용자에게 야생화 정보를 제공하는 방법을 제안한다.

A Study on the Characteristics of Each Section Based on Visitor's Satisfactions of the Dulegil in Bukhansan National Park (북한산국립공원 둘레길 탐방객 만족도에 따른 구간별 특성화 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of Dulegil in Bukhansan National Park in dispersing peak climbing hikers, characterize each section of Dulegil and suggest ideas of improvement. This study was conducted based on the survey completed by visitors in all 21 sections of Dulegil. After the construction of Dulegil, the number of visit to Dulegil grew and it was analyzed that Dulegil attracted new visitors given that the rate of young people(aged 19~30) who visited for the first time was quite high. Regarding the frequency of peak climbing, 7.6% of the respondents said "decreased" and 46.2% said "increased", showing that Dulegil's effect to disperse peak climbing hikers is nominal. Seven qualities were evaluated regarding Dulegil's level of satisfaction. Out of those seven, the quality of recreational place and taking a walk achieved high scores of 3.74 and 3.61 respectively. The quality of culture and history scored the lowest with 3.09. The analysis on the characteristic of each section of Dulegil, reason of visit, and the visitors' level of satisfaction showed that Dulegil is now regarded as a place where they can improve their health through light exercise and walking. In addition, a positive effect can be expected for a long time since there are different ways of utilizing the resources of the National Park, such as getting in touch with nature, preserving ecology, learning history and enjoying beautiful landscapes. If infrastructure and programs specific to each section of Dulegil were improved in a long-term perspective, it would be effective to encourage peak climbers and enjoy the lower parts of the mountain.

Characterizing light pollution in national parks during peak and off-peak tourist seasons using nighttime satellite images (야간위성영상을이용한국립공원탐방성수기와비수기의빛공해특성분석)

  • In this paper, we examined factors that influenced light pollution in Korean national parks during peak and off-peak tourist seasons. Cloud-and moonlight-free nighttime satellite images that were collected during October 2012(for peak season) and January 2013(for off-peak season) by the Day and Night Band (DNB) of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) sensor were used to estimate the levels of light pollution in 19 national parks (excluding the Bukhansan and Mudeungsan National Parks). Bootstrapping regression analyses were conducted to examine the effects of socioeconomic and policy factors on light pollution in the study national parks for peak and off-peak tourist seasons, separately. The characteristics of light pollution in the national parks varied by season. During the peak tourist season, light pollution in the national parks were affected more by night lights nearby the parks than those within in the parks, while in the off-peak season, light sources in the parks were more important. Scattering of light emitted from hotels and other recreational facilities outside the parks that led to the sky glow effect can be attributed to the greater impact of night lights nearby the parks during the peak season. This result suggests that regulating light pollution nearby the park areas is needed to mitigate light pollution in the national parks, especially in a peak tourist season.

Visitors' Evaluation of Information and Interpretive Media in Dadohaehaesang National Park, Korea (다도해해상국립공원 탐방객의 홍보 및 환경해설 매체 이용평가)

  • This study evaluated the efficacy of information and self-interpretive media that provide information on park environment using self-administered visitor survey to the Dadohaehaesang National Park, Korea. Excluding missing and unreliable responses, 205 valid responses were used for the analysis. Socioeconomic status and visiting behavior of the visitors to the Dadohaehaesang National Park were similar to those to other Korean national parks. Results showed that, of the self-interpretive media, 'Information board of park use and resources' were most frequently used (87.7%), followed by 'Interpretive label of woody plant,' and 'Bulletin boards for information and enlightenment.' 'Guided interpretation' was used less than 40% of the visitors. Visitors also highly rated the importance of the media (higher than 4.0 on average out of 5 point Liker scale question). The average performance rate was 3.82, suggesting that visitors were satisfied on the self-interpretive media. Visitors responded that 'Information board of park use and resources' and 'Bulletin boards for information and enlightenment' were not useful and, therefore, should be amended and managed to improve the self-interpretability of the media.
