An attempt was made to isolate Salmonella(S) organisms from a total of 4,587 fecal samples of birds during the period from May 1987 to March 1988, and serotype and biotypes of the isolates were also investigated. One hundred and sixty-six Salmonella strains were isolated from 151(3.3%) of 4,587 fecal samples of birds, and their serotype was all identified as S typhimurium var copenhagen. The positive samples of S typhimurium var copenhagen were 149 samples(5.1%) in pigeons and 2 samples (0.8%) in aquatic birds. No Salmonella was obtained from ducks, pheasant, and other birds. The isolation frequencies of S typhimurium var copenhagen from pigeons varied from 1.1 to 12.8% at 5 parks, it was higher in September and November. Biotypes of 166 S typhimurium var copenhagen strains isolated from pigeons and aquatic birds were all biotype 10 according to Brandis' method, and were biotype 25hi (78.3%), 27 hi (14.5%), 25 fhi (3.6%), 25 bhi (1.8%), 27 bhi (0.6%), 27 hiz (0.6%), and 9 hi (0.6%) according to Duguid's scheme. Appearance of different biotypes indicated the occurrence of exotic infection sources on the parks.
A study on the isolation of Yersinia from the feces of healthy pigs and the biotype and serotype and susceptibility to 16 antimicrobials was carried. Out of 853 pigs, Yersiniae were isolated from 349 pigs(40.9%). Out of 289 isolates of Y enterocolitica, the predominants biotype was 3B comprising of 165 isolates(57.1%) and followed by biotype 2, comprising of 49 isolates(17.0%), bioptype 3A, comprising of 41 isolates(14.2%) and biotype 4 comprising of 23 isolates(8.0%). And the predominant serotype was 0 : 3 comprising of 231 isolates(79.9%) and followed by serotype 0 : 9 comprising of 42 isolates(14.5%) and 0 : 21 comprising of 10 isolates(3.5%). Y. enterocolitica were resistant to cephalothin(99%), novobiocin(99%), erythromycine(83%), ampicillin(83%) and carbenicillin(81%) and susceptible to amikacin(100%), colistin(100%), gentamicin(100%), kanamycin(100%), polymyxin B(100%), tobramycin(100%), chloramphenicol(99%), nalidixic acid(99%), neomycin(99%), streptomycin(99%) and tetracycline(99%). Most strains of biotype 2/serotype 0 : 9 were susceptible to carbenicillin(100%) and ampicillin(61%) but the other biotype/serotypes were resistant to these antibiotic.
Many studies suggest a role for specific types of the Human Papillomavirus(HPV) in certain human neoplasms. In recent years, a numbers of studies have been reported linking the presence of HPV DNAs to a variety of carcinomas of the head and neck. We made the cloning of the Ll and L2 open reading frames of the HPV type 16 and 31 and expressed them in the baculovirus system. Those expressed Ll, L2 proteins will be used various ways to study the relationship between HPV and head and neck cancers.
This study was undertaken the bioserotype and drug resistance of Salmonella and Escherichia coli isolated from feces for the prevention and treatment of salmonellosis and colibacillosis in zoological animals. The results obtained from the research were as follows 1. Salmonella were isolated 19, or 4.7% from 408 samples and E. coli were isolated 12, or 40.0% from 30 diarrheal samples. 2. The objective of this paper is to investigate into the development of a thin flat panel photo-bioreactor case with characteristics shapes. The thin flat panel photo-bioreactor case was designed to be manufactured from a plastic thermoforming process. A proper design with a relatively high rigidity was obtained through the structural analyses for different designs of the photo-bioreactor case. The thermoforming analyses were performed. From the results of the thermoforming analyses, a proper forming condition and the formability of the designed plastic photo-bioreactor case were estimated. The thermoforming moulds for the flat panel photobioreactor cases were manufactured. The thermoforming experiments were performed to examine the manufacturability of the designed flat panel photo-bioreactor cases. From the results of the thermoforming experiments, it was shown that thin flat panel photo-bioreactor cases with characteristic shapes can be manufactured from the designed thermoforming mould and process.
Three types of gas-liquid hybrid horizontal, vertical and needle-to-cylinder plasma reactors were fabricated. Through these reactors, a high-efficiency, eco-friendly cleaning concept that generates reactive active species generated in atmospheric plasma discharge and gas-liquid activation reaction of cleaning components through the potential difference within the electrode was presented. As a result of comparing the efficiency for cleaning performance, the needle-to-cylinder type reactor had the best characteristics. Through this study, it was confirmed that the gas-liquid hybrid atmospheric pressure plasma reactor has the potential to be applied to ultra-precision cleaning processes such as semiconductor processes.

A finite element model is developed for the extended Boussinesq equations that is capable of simulating the dynamics of long and short waves. Galerkin weighted residual method and the introduction of auxiliary variables for 3rd spatial derivative terms in the governing equations are used for the model development. The Adams-Bashforth-Moulton Predictor Corrector scheme is used as a time integration scheme for the extended Boussinesq finite element model so that the truncation error would not produce any non-physical dispersion or dissipation. This developed model is applied to the problems of solitary wave propagation. Predicted results is compared to available analytical solutions and laboratory measurements. A good agreement is observed.

Nagoya Protocol came into effect October of 2014. For Korean companies to follow Nagoya Protocol with ease, this research conducts the survey to figure out consumers' additional willingness to pay for bio-diversity. The hypothesis that the bio-diversity label will make an impact on willingness to pay through emotional value, conditional value, and epistemic value is based on consumption value theory. The survey is conducted for two product categories; first one is utilitarian product (milk) and the other one is hedonic product (cosmetics). The analysis result shows the bio-diversity label on both product categories incur additional willingness to pay. Especially, expectation on effectiveness of bio-diversity label increases the additional willingness to pay on biodiversity label. This implies for easy following on Nagoya Protocol, the education and promotion of bio-diversity is need to increase consumers' additional willingness to pay, which can be the attraction for companies to obey the Nagoya Protocol.

In this study, bioconversion of rutin to quercetin was confirmed by the fermentation of Korean indigenous probiotics and tartary buckwheat. Based on whole genome sequencing of 17 probiotics species, α-rhamnosidase, related to bioconversion of isoquercetin (quercetin 3-β-D glucoside) from rutin, is identified in the genome of CBT BG7, LC5, LR5, LP3, LA1, and LGA1. β-Glucosidase, related to bioconversion of isoquercetin to quercetin, is identified in the genome of all 17 species. Among the 17 probiotics species, 6 probiotics including CBT BG7, LR5, LP3, LA1, LGA1 and ST3 performed the bioconversion of rutin to quercetin up to 21.5 ± 0.3% at 7 days after fermentation. The fermentation of each probiotics together with enzyme complex Cellulase KN® was conducted to reduce the time of bioconversion. As a result, CBT LA1 which showed the highest yield of bioconversion of 21.5 ± 0.3% when the enzyme complex was not added showed high bioconversion yield of 84.6 ± 0.5% with adding the enzyme complex at 1 day after fermentation. In particular, CBT ST3 (96.2 ± 0.4%), SL6 (90.1 ± 1.4%) and LP3 (90.0 ± 0.4%) showed high yield of bioconversion more than 90%. In addition, such probiotics including high levels in quercetin indicated the inhibitory effects of NO production in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells. In this study, we confirmed that the fermentation of Korean indigenous probiotics and enzyme complex together with roasted tartary buckwheat increased the content of quercetin and reduced the time of bioconversion of rutin to quercetin which is a bioactive compound related to anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, anti-obesity, and anti-diabetes.
Fusarium head blight is an important disease of small grains. It is mainly caused by members of the Fusarium graminearum species complex (FGSC). Barley and wheat growers spray fungicides, especially demethylation-inhibitor fungicides, to suppress the disease. The objective of this study was to examine the changes in the sensitivity of the FGSC population to the triazole fungicide, propiconazole. A total of 124 and 350 isolates of FGSC were obtained from barley and wheat in Jeolla Province during 2010-2016 and 2020-2021, respectively. The species identity and trichothecene chemotypes of the FGSC isolates were determined based on polymerase chain reaction assays targeting translation elongation factor 1-alpha and TRI12 genes, respectively. Sensitivity to propiconazole was determined based on the effective concentration that reduced 50% of the mycelial growth (EC50) using the agar dilution method. Of all isolates, F. asiaticum with the nivalenol chemotype was the most common (83.9% in 2010-2016 and 96.0% in 2020-2021), followed by F. asiaticum with the 3-acetyl deoxynivalenol chemotype (12.1% in 2010-2016 and 2.9% in 2020-2021). The EC50 values of the isolates collected in 2010-2016 and 2020-2021 ranged from 0.0180 to 11.0166 ㎍/mL and 1.3104 to 17.9587 ㎍/mL, respectively. The mean EC50 value of the isolates increased from 3.8648 ㎍/mL in 2010-2016 to 5.9635 ㎍/mL in 2020-2021. The baseline resistance to propiconazole was determined to be 7 ㎍/mL, based on the EC50 value of isolates collected in 2010-2016, and the ratio of resistant isolates increased from 9.7% in 2010-2016 to 28.6% in 2020-2021.
