Data was obtained through convenient sampling, adopting a cross-sectional design methodology. Professional values among nurses were significantly different according to occupational view (p<.001), ethical perception (p<.001) and ethical values (p<.001). Death ethic perception was significantly different based on ethical education (p<.05) and ethical values(p<.05). Positive correlations were found between nursing professional values, bioethics and death ethic perception, death ethic was significant predictors of professional values with an explanatory power of 15.0%. The findings of this study may assist in providing a detailed understanding of values among Korean nursing professionals, bioethics and death ethic perception.

  • This study is a descriptive evaluation of the differences in biomedical ethics consciousness, related knowledge, awareness, and attitude of nursing college students according to the completion of biomedical ethics education. The data were collected from 112 nursing students using self-report questionnaires and analyzed by t-test, Chi-Square test, Fisher's exact probability test and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS 21.0. There were significant differences between the two groups in the sub-domains of biomedical ethics consciousness, artificial insemination, euthanasia and organ transplantation. The biomedical ethics consciousness was positively correlated with attitudes toward human tissue donation and transplantation, awareness of death, and awareness of hospice palliative care. The results of this study showed that after participating in the biomedical ethics education, nursing college students had statistically significant differences in the consciousness of artificial insemination, euthanasia, and organ transplantation. Moreover, the consciousness of biomedical ethics was related to attitude toward human tissue donation and transplantation and awareness of hospice palliative care. Based on the results of this study, we would like to suggest the need for development of various curricula related to death, hospice palliative care, human tissue donation and transplantation in the biomedical ethics curriculum. In addition, as the study was conducted in a single college, it is difficult to generalize the results; therefore, additional studies at different facilities are recommended.

  • This study was conducted to identify the effects of the degree of death orientation, attitudes toward withdrawing life-sustaining treatment, and awareness of biomedical ethics on paramedic students' own biomedical ethics. The participants of this study were 228 paramedic students from a college located in D city. Data were collected from April to June 2019 through a self-report questionnaire. There was a positive correlation between awareness of biomedical ethics and attitude toward withdrawing life-sustaining treatment (r=.63, p<.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the factors affecting students' awareness of biomedical ethics were religion (β=.12, p=.018) and their attitude toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment (β=.61, p<.001), with an explanatory power of 41.0%. Educational programs must focus on attitudes toward withdrawing life-sustaining treatment to improve paramedic students' awareness of biomedical ethics.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for developing hospice intervention strategies that can enhance hospice care perception plus attitude toward death of nursing students by grasping the factors affecting the perception of first grade students. Data were collected from 185 nursing students at J university in G-do. Analysis was done using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Multiple regression with IBM SPSS WIN/25.0. Hospice care perception was correlated to moral behavior (r=.22, p=.002) and biomedical ethics consciousness (r=.29, p<.001). The most influential factor on the subjects' hospice care perception was biomedical ethics consciousness (β=.224, p=.012), followed by high financial competence of parents (β=.187, p=.027). The explanatory power was 11.5%. Therefore, systematic programs that can enhance moral behavior and biomedical ethics consciousness are necessary to promote awareness of hospice care. Also, the following data can be utilized as basic data to help develop hospice education programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of good death recognition, self-esteem, attitude toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatmenton the consciousness of biomedical ethics in nursing students. Data were collected from 154 nursing students in B city and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 22.0. The degree of consciousness of biomedical ethics in nursing students was 2.87±0.26. There were significant differences in consciousness of biomedical ethics with respect to religion(t=-2.90, p=.004). There was positive correlation between consciousness of biomedical ethics and good death recognition(r=.27, p=.001), self-esteem(r=.36, p<.001), negative correlation between consciousness of biomedical ethics and attitude toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment(r=-.29, p<.001). The factors affecting consciousness of biomedical ethics of the study subjects were good death recognition(β=.26, p<.001), self-esteem(β=.29, p<.001), attitude toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment(β=-.30, p<.001), religion(β=-.20, p=.004), with an explanatory power of 28.7%. Through this research requires the fellow study to determine the factors affecting consciousness of biomedical ethics of nursing students.

  • This study was conducted to identify the factors influencing consciousness of biomedical ethics, moral sensitivity and critical thinking disposition with respect to the Code of Ethics of nurses among nursing students. A descriptive correlation research design was used for this study. The subjects were 299 nursing students in two large cities from 1 June to 31 July 2015. Collected data were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and stepwise multiple regression by the SPSS 22.0 program. The results revealed that female subjects comprised 86.65% of the subjects and the mean age was 21.67 years. Awareness of the Code of Ethics for nurses was positively correlated with the consciousness of biomedical ethics(p<0.001), moral sensitivity(p<0.001), and critical thinking disposition(p<0.001). However, there were negative correlations between grade(p=0.017), marital state(p=0.012), and the possibility of increasing ethical problems according to the development of bioscience(p=0.012). Significant influencing factors of the awareness of the Code of Ethics for nurses included grade(p=0.013), marital state(p=0.030), consciousness of biomedical ethics(p=0.017), moral sensitivity(p<0.001), and critical thinking disposition(p=0.001), with apower of explanation of 26.3%. The results of this study show that the consciousness of biomedical ethics, moral sensitivity and critical thinking disposition are factors influencing the code of ethics for nurses among nursing students.

  • This study is a descriptive survey study that attempted to confirm clinical nurses' consciousness of biomedical ethics, moral sensitivity, critical thinking deposition, and nursing ethics code of clinical nurses, as well as to identify the factors influencing the recognition of the nursing code of ethics. The general and ethical characteristics of the subject were calculated by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and the difference for each variable according to the general and ethical characteristics was analyzed using SAS 9.4, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA, and Scheffé test. The average, standard deviation, and the minimum and maximum values were used for the scores of each variable, and the correlation was determined using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Multiple regression was used to identify the factors that influence the recognition of the nurse's code of ethics. All variables showed significant correlations. Critical thinking deposition (p<.05) was the most influential variable in recognizing the code of ethics for nurses. Critical thinking deposition (p<.001), consciousness in biomedical ethics (p<.001), and moral sensitivity (p<.001) were shown to be affected in order, with 27.4% explaining power. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply educational programs to clinical nurses that can improve critical thinking, life and bioethics, and moral sensitivity.
