Unconventional Issues and Solutions in Developing IoT Applications (IoT 애플리케이션 개발에서 비전형적 이슈 및 솔루션)

  • Internet-of-Things(IoT) is the computing paradigm converged with different technologies, where diverse devices are connected via the wireless network, acquire environmental information from their equipped sensors, and are actuated. IoT applications provide smart services to users by interacting with multiple devices connected to the network. IoT devices provide the simple set of the information and also offer smart services by collaborating with other devices. That is, IoT applications always interact with IoT devices which are becoming very popular at a fast pace. However, due to this fact, developing IoT application results in unconventional technical challenges which have not been observed in typical software applications. Moreover, since IoT computing has its own characteristics which are distinguished from other former paradigms such as embedded computing and mobile computing, IoT applications also reveal their own technical challenges. Therefore, we analyze technical challenges occurring in developing IoT applications and present effective solutions to overcome the challenges. To verify identified issues and presented solutions, we present the result of performing a case study of developing an IoT application. Through the case study, we verify how the unconventional technical issues are raised in a real domain and analyze effectiveness of applying the solutions to the application.

Effect of Tex1/THOC3, a component of THO complex, on growth and mRNA export in fission yeast (분열효모에서 THO 복합체의 구성요소인 Tex1/THOC3가 생장 및 mRNA 방출에 미치는 영향)

  • In eukaryote, THO/TREX complex plays a critical role in transcriptional elongation, pre-mRNA processing, and nuclear mRNA export. This complex is evolutionally well- conserved, but there are some differences in composition and function according to organisms. Here we showed that spTex1, a component of THO/TREX complex, is not essential for growth and mRNA export in a fission yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, which is more similar to higher eukaryote than budding yeast. Deletion and overexpression of the spTex1 gene do not lead to any detectable growth phenotype and accumulation of poly(A)+ RNA in the nucleus. And the spTex1-GFP protein is localized mainly in the nucleus. Yeast two-hybrid and Co-immunoprecipitation analysis showed that the spTex1 protein interacted with spHpr1 (THOC1) and spTho2 (THOC2), main subunits of THO complex. We conclude that the S. pombe Tex1 is a component of THO/TREX complex, but does not plays important roles in growth and bulk mRNA export from the nucleus.

Design and Implementation of License Web Courseware based on the Cognitive Apprenticeship Theory (인지적 도제이론에 기반한 자격증 웹 코스웨어 설계 및 구현)

  • This study applies the cognitive apprenticeship theory a representative learning theory of constructivism. to design and create a web courseware for data device operator license. to enable research that begins with peripheral participation in Problem solving and ends with full participation and initiative, to act as a medium for assisting students in learning, to enable adaptation to actual situations through simulation studies, to allow aggressive interaction, and to help reinforce the level of data processing with regard to learning. The student was made to evaluate learning materials at real time for feedback on insufficient areas, to enable effective learning. The study was done by offering a web courseware without applying the cognitive apprenticeship theory and a web courseware with the cognitive apprenticeship theory, which was followed by an evaluation on study achievement level and learning behavior and then a survey was done after the evaluations. The results of this study were first, the learning group with web courseware applying cognitive apprenticeship theory showed more effect in improving learning achievement than the group with web courseware without the cognitive apprenticeship theory. Secondly, learning with web courseware applying cognitive apprenticeship theory was more effective for improving learning behavior.

A Study on Decision Factors Affecting Utilization of Elderly Welfare Center: Focus on Gimpo City (노인복지관 이용 결정요인에 관한 연구: 김포시 노인을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to learn about the decision factors affecting utilization of elderly welfare center of the elderly living in Gimpo city. The reason of the study is that the elderly welfare center as a provider of general welfare services could not only thinking about the state policy but also need to consider about the inherent role and function of the elderly. Especially for these elders living in rural areas, although the number of elderly welfare centers of the whole country has greatly increased in last 10 years, the effect and function of the facility are almost the same and they are still lack of leisure activities. This issue become a serious problem nowadays. For the above reasons, this article conducts a social survey of 360 elderly people over the age of 65 who lives in the Gimpo city which is a rural-urban type city. The research method is to examine the relationship between the predisposing factors, enabling factors and need factors of Andersen's behavior model with binary logistic regression analysis and the decision tree analysis. The result of binary logistic regression shows the most of factors of Andersen's model is significant. The factors of age, gender, education level in predisposing factors; monthly income in enabling factors and the reserve for old life, the preparation of economic activity for old life in need factors are significant. Then the result of decision tree analysis shows the interaction between factors; when the education level in predisposing factors is higher, the possibility of using of elderly welfare center becomes bigger. Also as the level of healthy promoting preparation in the need factors gets lower, the possibility of using of elderly welfare center still becomes bigger. Although differences were found in the interpretation of the results of regression analysis and decision tree analysis, the results of this study can still provide support for the necessity of elderly welfare centers providing integrated welfare services.

Characterization of Ecological Networks on Wetland Complexes by Dispersal Models (분산 모형에 따른 습지경관의 생태 네트워크 특성 분석)

  • Wetlands that provide diverse ecosystem services, such as habitat provision and hydrological control of flora and fauna, constitute ecosystems through interaction between wetlands existing in a wetlandscape. Therefore, to evaluate the wetland functions such as resilience, it is necessary to analyze the ecological connectivity that is formed between wetlands which also show hydrologically dynamic behaviors. In this study, by defining wetlands as ecological nodes, we generated ecological networks through the connection of wetlands according to the dispersal model of wetland species. The characteristics of these networks were then analyzed using various network metrics. In the case of the dispersal based on a threshold distance, while a high local clustering is observed compared to the exponential dispersal kernel and heavy-tailed dispersal model, it showed a low efficiency in the movement between wetlands. On the other hand, in the case of the stochastic dispersion model, a low local clustering with high efficiency in the movement was observed. Our results confirmed that the ecological network characteristics are completely different depending on which dispersal model is chosen, and one should be careful on selecting the appropriate model for identifying network properties which highly affect the interpretation of network structure and function.

The Characteristics of Diadochokinesis in 1st and 2nd Grades of Elementary School Students (아동의 조음교대운동 특성: 광주광역시 초등학교 1, 2학년을 대상으로)

  • Diadochokinesis (DDK) aims to identify the evaluating the oral mitor ability and the moter coordination ability. There are few DDK normative data on elementary school students in Korea, The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of the speed and regularity of DDK in first- and second-grade students in elementary school. The subjects were a total of 194 students in first- (45 males, 50 females) and second-grade (47 males, 52 females) in elementary schools in Gwangju Metropolitan City. As evaluation tasks, AMR task 'p?', 't?', and 'k?' and SMR task 'p?t?k?' were performed. The speed and regularity of DDK was measured using Motor speech profile (Model 5141, KayPENTAX) and Praat (v6.0.3.6). The results of this study, First, there was a statistically significant difference by grade in AMR speed for 'p?', 't?', and 'k?' and the AMR speed was faster in second grade group. And, there was no statistically significant. Second, AMR regularity showed a statistically significant difference in 'p?', 't?', and 'k?' according to sex and was found to be more regular in female student group. There was no significant difference in regularity by grade. Third, the SMR speed showed statistically significant difference in 'p?t?k?' by grade and was faster in second grade group. And there was no statistically significant difference by sex. The results of this study showed that the DDK performance ability in first- and second-grade students in elementary school was slightly different according to grade and sex. In future research, it is necessary to investigate the correlation between the articulation accuracy and linguistic intelligibility, and to find out the usefulness of DDK in articulation evaluation.

A Study on Consumers' Responses to Shopping Chatbot: The Effects of Agent and Message Types (쇼핑 챗봇에 대한 소비자 반응 연구: 에이전트와 메시지 유형 효과를 중심으로)

  • As AI technology develops, its application has been extended to diverse fields. In particular, AI-enabled Chatbot services have garnered growing attention and such services are more important as a tool of communication in mobile shopping. However, research on chatbots is in its early stage and the understanding of chatbots in the context of mobile commerce is very limited. The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate consumer responses to a shopping chatbot with a focus on the effects of chatbot agent types and message types. Specifically, a $2{\times}2$ between-subjects experimental design, with the agent type (secretary/friend) and the message type (factual/evaluative) as the independent variables, was employed. The results show that although main effects of chatbot agent and message types are not found, interaction effects between chatbot agents and message types on consumer responses are significant. Specifically, when the agent type was a secretary, consumer responses to product recommendation with a factual message were more positive. On the other hand, in the case of the friend agent, the evaluative message led to more positive responses. The findings suggest that communication elements are important in the understanding of consumer responses to chatbots in mobile shopping and effective strategies for utilizing chatbots for mobile commerce should be considered.

Initial Assessment and Care Planning in Palliative Hospice Care: Focus on Assessment Tools (호스피스 완화의료에서의 초기평가와 돌봄 계획의 수립: 평가도구를 중심으로)

  • For hospice palliative care that provides comprehensive and general care, it is necessary to use assessment tools to objectively list issues and detail care plans. The initial assessment is a process of establishing an overall direction of care by identifying the patient's symptoms, social and spiritual issues and palliative care needs on the admission day or within one day of admission. This process is also used to identify the patients' and families' awareness of the illness, prognosis, treatment options and if the Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) has been drafted. Consisting of 13 simple questions regarding the physical, mental, social, and spiritual domains, the Needs at the End-of-Life Screening Tool (NEST) is recommended as an initial assessment tool. Using specific assessment tools, a care plan is established for the issues identified in the initial assessment within three days of admission. A multidisciplinary assessment tool can be helpful in the physical domain. The psychosocial domain evaluates psychological distress, anxiety and depression. The social domain examines an ability to make decisions, understanding of the socioeconomic circumstance, family relationship, and death preparedness. A spiritual evaluation is also important, for which the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual WellBeing Scale (FACIT-Sp) or the Spiritual Health Inventory (SHI) can be used. The use of an assessment tool could not only contribute to pain mitigation a better quality of life for patients, but also provide systematic training for a multidisciplinary team; And the process itself could be a stepping stone for the better care provision.

Experimental and Numerical Study of Berthing and Unberthing of LNG-Bunkering Vessels (실험 및 수치해석을 통한 LNG 벙커링 선박들의 이접안 안정성 평가 연구)

  • The IMO has adopted emission standards through Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) that strictly prohibit the use of bunker C oil for vessels. In this study, we have adopted the turret-moored Floating LNG-Bunkering Terminal (FLBT) which is designed to receive the LNG from LNGCs and transfer it to LNG-bunkering shuttles in side-by-side moored condition. Numerical analyses were carried out using the high-order boundary-element method for four vessels at various relative distances. Mean wave drift forces were compared in an operational sea state. A model test was performed in the ocean engineering basin at the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) to verify the safety of the berthing/unberthing operation. In the model test, a jig was designed to simulate tug boats pushing or pulling the bunkering vessels, so that the friction force of the g operation was not affected. Safety depended on the environmental direction, with more stable operation possible if the heading-control function of FLBT is applied to avoid beam-sea conditions.

An Imagination for Future of Education: Based on Vygotsky's Theory and Emotional Relation (미래교육을 위한 상상력: Vygotsky의 이론 및 정서와의 관계를 중심으로)

  • Drawing upon Vygotsky's theory, this paper explores the possibilities of imaginative education and those implications in relation to emotions. Imagination is an important element of future competencies as well as creativity. But there is a big dilemma in an educational intervention about imagination. If imagination is naturally occurring and therefore considered a mysterious ability that is specific to a child, education should not intervent as much as possible so that it can be expressed and preserved. It is linked to Piaget's influence, which regards imagination as a mental immaturity of childhood. Vygotsky who is a developmental psychologist argues that mind is generated from the socio-cultural origins in opposition to Piaget's spontaneous generation and emphasizes that it is a core characteristic of human to create something through interaction with the world. Vygotsky consider that 'imagination' which synthesizes empirical material and creates a new image is a key factor in human creativity. He reminded us of the possibilities and importance of imaginative education by revealing that imagination is not limited to childhood but constantly develops through cultural experience. Especially Vygotsky's understanding has important implications for future education in relation to emotion. Imagination plays a role of expressing and dealing with human emotions. Unlike the reason-centered society in the past, future society demands a big role of imagination in education for dealing with emotional knowledge and morality.
