Benthic macroinvertebrates are important ecological and environmental indicators as primary or secondary consumers, and therefore are widely used in the evaluation of aquatic environments. However, there are no comprehensive river ecosystem monitoring surveys that link the major physicochemical water quality items with benthic macroinvertebrates in urban streams. Therefore, this study investigated the distribution characteristics of benthic macroinvertebrates and physicochemical water quality items (17 items) in Yangjaecheon and Yeouicheon from 2019 to 2020. At the same time, by applying Spearman's rank correlation analysis and nonmetric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) analysis in the water quality data and biotic index, we tried to provide basic data for diagnosing the current status of river ecosystems in major urban rivers in Seoul. Based on the study results, a total of 39 species and 3,787 individuals were identified in Yangjaecheon, the water quality(based on BOD, TOC, and TP) of Yangjaecheon was higher than Grade Ib(good), and the BMI using benthic macroinvertebrates appeared as Grade C(normal) at all the sites. In Yeouicheon, a total of 51 species and 4,199 individuals were identified, the water quality(based on BOD, TOC, TP) was higher than Grade Ib(good) similar to Yangjaecheon, and the BMI of both Upstream and Saewon bridge was Grade B(good), while Yeoui bridge was Grade C(normal). Overall, analysis results for the distribution of benthic macroinvertebrates by a nonmetric multidimensional scaling method showed no significant difference between the two streams (p=0.1491). Also, significant environmental variables related to benthic macroinvertebrates distribution were determined as water temperature and DO. On the other hand, the results of the correlation analysis between biotic index and major water quality items confirmed that R1 and BMI could be used for on-site urban river water quality evaluation.
The Markov chain properties of the sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies, namely, the dependency of the monthly SST anomaly on that of the previous month, are studied based on the SST data for 28years(1957-1984) at 5 stations in the southeastern coast of Korea. Wi classified the monthly SST anomalies at each station into the low, the normal and the high state, and computed transition probabilities between SST anomalies of two successive months The standard deviation of SST anomalies at each station is used as a reference for the classification of SST anomalies into 3states. The transition probability of the normal state to remain in the same state is about 0.8. The transition probability of the high or the low states to remain in the same state is about one half. The SST anomalies have almost no probability to transit from the high (the low) state to the low (the high) state. Statistical tests show that the Markov chain properties of SST anomalies are stationary in tine and homogeneous in space. The multi-step Markov chain analysis shows that the 'memory' of the SST anomalies at the coastal stations remains about 3 months.

We propose a new M-ary state-transition FSK modulator technique for enhancing demodulator's symbol timing recovery which can be applied to acoustic MODEM. In the previous technique, the demodulator's symbol timing performance can degrade when the sequences of same symbols are transmitted. This proposed method, because the transmission symbol changes in every single symbol period, increases the synchronization performance dramatically and has a simple MODEM and frame structure. On the one hand, we improve modulation-derived synchronization(MDS) which is M-ary FSK's symbol timing recovery scheme, then analyze it. Finally the proposed method is analyzed from the viewpoint of frequency efficiency, which proves this method is appropriate for acoustic MODEM.

Ni-W alloys containing 10 to 50wt% W were prepared by electrodeposition. Tungsten content in the alloy increased with current density. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the alloy was crystalline phase when deposited at current densities lower than 50mA/${cm}^2$. Their crystal structure transformed to amorphous at higher current densities. In terms of tungsten content, the crystal -+ amorphous transition occurred at 40-46wt% which was identified by the 3 fold increase in the width of a diffraction peak. The lattice parameter of crystalline phase increased with W upto 40wt% which is higher than the solubility limit of W (about 30wt%) in Ni. Therefore, the alloys are considered to be Ni solid solution supersaturated with W. The amorphous Ni-W alloys were recrystallized by annealing them at temperatures over $400^{\circ}C$. This was evidenced by the appearance a strong [ 11 11 annealing texture. The supersaturated W was precipitated during the annealing at over $800^{\circ}C$. The current-density dependence of W content and crystallinity was utilized to produce alternating layers of crystalline (30wt% W) and amorphous (50wt%) phases which may exhibit unique mechanical and corrosion properties.
The objective of study was to diagnose integrative ecological health of Daejeon Stream, one of the tributaries of Guem River, during May 2004 ${\sim}$ April 2005. The research approach was primarily based on a Qualitative Habitat Evaluation Index (QHEI) and the Index of Biological Integrity (IBI) using fish assemblage. These outcomes were compared with conventional chemical dataset. For the experiment, four sampling sites were chosen from Daejeon Stream and long-term water quality data during 1995 ${\sim}$ 2004 (obtained from the Ministry of Environment) were analyzed in the spatial and temporal aspects. For the biological health assessment, we developed a stream health assessment model (SHA model) far regional applications. We found that current water quality conditions, based on the COD, BOD, TN and TP, were enhanced by 1.6 ${\sim}$ 5.3 fold over the period of 1995 ${\sim}$ 2004 and that the parameters showed a typical longitudinal decline from the upstream to downstream reach. The differences of water quality between the two reaches were more than 4.4 times, indicating a large spatial variations within the stream. The health conditions, based on the SHA model, averaged 23 and varied from 20 to 26 depending on the sampling stations. Values of the QHEI varied from 39 (Poor condition) to 124 (Cood condition)and values of QHEI in the reach of S2 ${\sim}$ S4 had significantly lower than in the headwater site (S1). Also, biological stream health, based on the criteria of US EPA (1993), was judged as 'Poor condition', in the S4 where TN, TP, BOD and COD were highest. In the meantime, maximum value of SHA (26) was found in the upstream reach (S1) where the water quality and QHEI were best. We also found that compositions of sensitive species showed a linear function with water quality conditions and this pattern was evident in the tolerant species. Thus, the biological stream health, based on the SHA model, matched well water chemistry. Overall outcomes suggest that the biological health impact was a function of chemical degradation and physical habitat quality in the stream.
The successional status and potential natural vegetation were examined in the natural deciduous forest in Mt. Chombong area. The examination was based on the subsequent process of generation replacement by understory saplings for the dominant canopy trees within 106 20mx20m square sample plots. The transition matrix model, which was modified from mathematical theory of Markov chain, was employed to analyze the successional status of the study forest. The model suggests that study forest is still seral, and it is considered to be more than 500 years away from the steady state or climax in terms of species composition. The simulations predict a remarkable decrease in the proportion of species composition of the present dominant Quercus mongolica and Kalopanax pictus from current 42.6% and 8.1% to less than 13.3% and 0.5%, respectively, at the steady state. On the contrary, the proportions of Abies holophylla, Acer mono, Fraxinus mandshurica, Tilia amurensis, and Acer pseudo-sieboldianum will increase at the steady state. The change of predicted composition ratio was generally coincide with the result of tolerance index to be compared with the study model. The hypothesis and sensitivity of the model were also discussed to evaluate the applicability to the real situation. The overall results indicated that the present dynamics of the forest must reflect the seral state due to previous disturbance mainly by human related interference.

A delay-line type time-to-digital converter (TDC) implemented in a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is most widely owing due to its simple structure and high conversion rate. However, the delay-line type TDC suffers from nonlinearity error caused by the long delay-line because its time interval measurement range is determined by the length of the used delay line. In this study, a new TDC structure with a shorter delay line by taking a pulse train as an input is proposed for improved time accuracy and efficient use of resources. The proposed TDC utilizes a pulse-train with four transitions and a transition state detector that identifies the used transition among four transitions and prevents the meta-stable state without a synchronizer. With 72 delay cells, the measured resolution and maximum non-linearity were 20.53 ps, and 1.46 LSB, respectively, and the time interval measurement range was 5070 ps which was enhanced by approximately 343 % compared to the conventional delay-line type TDC.

A Discrete continuation Method/homotopy approaches are studied for energy/fuel optimal low thrust Earth escape trajectory by solving a two point boundary value problem(TPBVP). Recently, maneuvers using low thrust propulsion system have been identified as emerging technologies. The low thruster is considered as the main actuator for orbit maneuvers. The cost function consists of a energy/fuel consumption function, and constraints are position and velocity vectors at the terminal escape point. Solving the minimum energy/fuel problem directly is not an easy task, so we adopt the homotopy analysis. Using a solution of the minimum energy, which is solved by discrete continuation method, we obtain the solution of the minimum fuel problem.

The cooling of a injector effects on the vapor pressure of cryogenic oxidizer spray, and it decides the phase transition point at the ignition process, when the combustion chamber pressure increases drastically. The phase transition of oxidizer spray affects the ignition characteristics, and several ignition tests with the LOx/$GCH_4$ uni-element coaxial swirl injector was performed in the different initial temperatures of oxidizer injector, in order to investigate the effect of injector cooling on the ignition transient characteristics. At the transition point of oxidizer phase, where the combustion chamber pressure increased over the LOx vapor pressure, the temporary quenching phenomenon of the flame occurred. The lower temperature of chilled down injector and tubing tends to move up the phase transition earlier.
