  • <복수는 나의 것>, <올드 보이>, <친절한 금자씨>는 죄와 복수, 구원의 문제를 다룬 박찬욱 감독의 복수 삼부작으로서, 보이스 오버를 활용한다는 공통점이 있다. 이 연구는 박찬욱 감독의 복수 삼부작이 각 내러티브의 주제에 따라 내러티브 정보를 통제하고 관객의 심리적 거리감을 조절하기 위해 보이스오버 전략을 어떻게 구사하는지 논의한다. 이를 위해 각 작품의 플롯, 초점화 유형, 보이스오버의 특징들을 분석한 결과, 보이스오버를 통해 관객의 정서적 참조점을 형성하고, 인물과 이야기에 대한 동일시나 감정이입을 통제하는 복수 삼부작의 특성을 확인하였다.

  • While Lukacs advocated the progressive effect that Darwin's evolutionary theory had on Goethe and Balzac, he was convinced that the "influences of Nietzsche, Freud, or Spengler on the writers" of his own time were "devastating." He maintains that to the "'vacuous' reality" of bourgeois life, "the bourgeois writer counterposes 'the life of the soul,' which is 'alone decisive.' This life of the soul then becomes the centre of gravity, and sometimes the sole content of his portrayal." Naming this creative tendency psychologism, he warns against the danger of "depicting only the 'inner life,' and carrying on a more or less conscious education in the direction of political and social indifferentism, of ignoring and pushing aside the 'inessential,' 'external' struggles of the world, in favour of the 'life of the soul,' which is all that matters." However, Frantz Fanon's analysis of the psychology of the colonized in Black Skin, White Masks displays that after all, "the life of the soul" cannot be separated from the "external' struggles of the world." Pat Barker's Regeneration Trilogy, which criticizes the conduct of World War I by British leaders and the British society in general with its patriarchal, gender, and class repression by depicting the psychopathology of the shell shock victims of the same war amply shows the possibility of portraying the "external struggles of the world" through the in-depth probing into "the life of the soul" and finding political and social relevance in the process.

  • R.W.B. Lewis called Greene's three novels - Brighton Rock, The Power and the Glory and The Heart of the Matter - Greene's 'trilogy'. Greene was paid full attention by many readers and many critics after publishing these Catholic novels. The themes and plots of his Catholic novels are unique and beyond those of traditional Catholicism. Greene is always willing to stand on the edge of reality. He always conflicts with the reality and eagerly searches for a higher, more spiritual dimension. If we view Greene's protagonists from an open-minded viewpoint, Pinkie of Brighton Rock will be saved at the mercy and grace of God in spite of being evil. Whiskey Priest of The Power and the Glory is worthy of being called a saint in spite of his drunkenness and adultery. Scobie of The Heart of the Matter will be within God's grace in spite of his suicide. The reason all protagonists are saint-like is clear and simple because they all have faith and sacrifice themselves to obey God's first commandment, to love others. To summarize the theme of Greene's 'trilogy', we can say that love is the most valuable in the world. God has mercy for all human beings. The protagonists love God and they love others. In fact, Greene's faith is found in his love of human beings and God.

The literature of Catherine II and the image of freemason in the late 18th century Russia: the case of anti-freemason trilogy from Catherine II (예카테리나 2세의 문학과 18세기 후반 러시아 프리메이슨의 형상: 예카테리나 2세의 '안티-프리메이슨 삼부작'을 중심으로)

  • This article attempts to explore the literature of Catherine the second, focusing on her comedies in the light of anti-freemasonry in the late 18th-centuryof Russia. Her main idea towards social morals was consistently expressed from in her early comedies during 1770s, such as 'Oh! times!'(1772), to her late counterparts during 1880s, such as so called 'anti-freemason trilogy,' which includes 'the deceiver'(1785), 'the deceived one'(1785) and 'Siberian shaman'(1786). By depicting antagonists-freemasons in her own trilogy, only as alchemists, shamans, fallacious chemists, hypocritical medical doctors, and so on, Caterine the second intended to undermine the mason influence against Russian Empire, which had ideationally attracted Russian nobles and intellectuals and furthermore to reinforce her political control over the intellectuals as well as the public. The above literacy attempts by Catherine can be said to aim to found morals of her own era through the utilization of social discourse, rather than through the political or governmental control.

  • I study how the deviation of strong women clashes with patriarchism and the clash is represented in the films. Women of Spirit's in 1960's narrative deals with the generational conflicts and the older's defeat, and that reflects the changes of the times. The narrative of Horse-year Bride in 1960's deals with changes of housewives' status, deviation and return of the strong-willed women, and becoming 'a wise mother and good wife'. The Daughter-in-Law Born in the Year of Horse in 1970's has two meanings - rejecting the active women and reinforcing patriarchism. The narratives of these films mean the obedience to patriarchism and the punishment women for their activity. But, these films also show the pleasure of resistance by revealing the gap and the contradiction of patriarchism.
