Since the introduction of motion picture in the early 20th century, Korean motion picture industry has gradually evolved as one of the world leaders. However, due to the rapid technological change as exemplified by the emergence of the new digital and 3D cinema technologies, there is a need to re-consider the existing technology policy and strategy designed for the adoption and effective use of new technologies. In this paper, the authors address this issue by emphasizing the technological development side rather than the use/adoption side. In order to provide policy makers with critical information on the current status of the sector, we analyzed the sectoral innovation system of the Korean motion picture industry. In order to conduct this analysis, we re-visited previous literature and interviewed experts in the motion picture sector. Then, the authors attempted to identify the characteristics and problems of the current Korean motion picture industry. Based on the insights gained from this research, we draw policy implications for technological innovation in this sector. However, the implications from this paper are not limited to the motion picture industry. As the motion picture industry is a new case for innovation studies, our paper may provide new research opportunities to the academia.

기술기반사회로의 진화가 빠르게 진행되면서 경제성장에 있어 기술혁신의 중요성이 깊이 인식되어왔다. 그러나 혁신과 관련한 의사결정이 시장에만 맡겨질 경우 종종 시장실패가 일어나기 때문에 다양한 기술 혁신지원정책을 통해 공공이 개입하고 있는 실정이다. 공공의 기술혁신 지원정책이 수립, 시행되는데 있어 가장 중요한 근거는 경제적, 기술적 파급효과이며, 이에 근거할 때 공공차원의 선택과 집중이라는 문제도 합리성을 갖게 된다. 파급효과를 분석하기 위해서는 산업간 기술연관관계분석이 필수적으로 선행되어야 하며, 이와 관련하여 다수의 국내외 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 HS코드를 이용하여 산업별로 주 생산물 관련 키워드를 직접 생성하고, 특허 및 실용신안 등 지적재산권에 활용된 키워드 및 분류정보와 일치시킴으로서 지적재산권의 산업간 공유여부를 파악하는 메카니즘을 제안하고자 한다. 제안된 메카니즘을 제조업 세세분류(five-digit level)에 적용함으로서 세세분류산업간 연관관계를 제시하였다. 분석의 결과로서 부품소재산업을 중심으로 살펴볼 때 부품소재산업군과 여타산업군이 기술적으로 분절되어 있음을 확인하였다. 이 결과는 부품소재산업에서의 혁신은 부품소재산업군내에서 (비체화) 기술적 파급효과(disembodied technological spillover)를, 그리고 부품소재산업에서부터 여타 산업으로 (체화) 경제적 파급효과(embodied economic spillover)를 유발한다는 점을 시사하고 있다.

The progress of digital revolution leads to technology and industry infusion which make new products and new commodity markets in the existing industries. Under the circumstance of new innovation patterns in industries and globalization of the world, innovation firms adapt different evolution processes for different business situations. Technological innovation enhances the competitiveness of fins in the business world. This paper shows the researches on technological innovation which make constant economy growth in the knowledge based economy. And this paper also suggests the policy on technological innovation for the future growth of society. Main focus of this paper are as follows. First, the theoretical survey on technological innovation is reviewed. Second, the program and the supporting system for technological innovation in the USA and Europe are investigated. Third, the situation and problems of Korea is analysed. Fourth, strategy and suggestions on the development of technological innovation in the 21st century knowledge based economy is suggested through the window of cluster and regional economy development.

Under Ford system, corporations sought to maximize the economies of scale by raising the production efficiency. It aims to lower the production cost by increasing the quantity of output. But in the era of market flux and uncertainty, however, such strategies can no longer be sustained. Replacing the structures of Ford system, Toyota was able to accelerate the pace of process innovation and product innovation. Related to this innovation is JIT, new model development, modularization. The firm's reliance on flexible production technology provides opportunities to expand her production basis to foreign countries successfully. The main objective of this paper is to explore the contribution of process innovation to profit-capital ratio. The model is estimated using a time-series data of 18 years from 1990 to 2007 of auto production industry in korea. An Implication of this estimation shows that process innovation explains a significant portion of profit-capital ratio.

Production innovation capabilities are critical to the survival and growth of firms. This paper investigates industrial dynamics and dynamic capabilities of firms by looking at how an industry evolution process influences firms' product innovation strategy and how dynamic capabilities affect firms' product innovation process. Korea Wireless Internet industry shows a full cycle of industry evolution process including introduction phase, growth phase, maturity phase, and decline phase using by dynamic technological and market changes. 7 listed companies in Korea Wireless Internet industry were selected. We have conducted multiple case studies based upon in depth interviews. Empirical results show that different phases of industry evolution influence firms' strategy of product innovation. Dynamic capabilities are also appears to be very important to the survival and growth of a firm.

This research aims to empirically investigate the innovative effects of 2012 Cosmetics Act amendment on the cosmetics industry. By utilizing production data from the Korea Food and Drug Administration for the period 2008-2014 and estimating a panel fixed-effects model, the study demonstrates a significant positive correlation between the legislative revision and firm production. Additionally, it is observed that both the number of brands and new products per manufacturer significantly increased following the amendment. Further, this study shows a significant positive correlation between the amendment and the potential market size, with the potential market size positively correlated with innovation. The findings of this study highlight that government regulatory improvements can positively impact industrial innovation and promotion.
