  • The purpose of this study includes (1) to analyze the mediation process in which conflict mediation involves alternative stories through the mediation process after the characteristics of personal conflicts are analyzed (2) and to classify characteristics of the narrative of conflict mediation. This study attempts to examine mediation roles in the process mainly focusing on communication skills to which professional conflict mediators can apply. Based on this study, the usefulness of descriptive conflict mediation of social constructivism's perspective, one of the post-modern theories, was observed. The narrative mediation as a system that connects problems to conflicts with conversation and creates and develops the meanings of conflicts and problems in collaboration attempts to pursue new changes on the assumption of the subjectivity of human beings and the characteristic of the conflicts. Such a point supports the argument that conflicts should be approached from the communication perspective. Especially, it is expected that the fact that a variety of communication skills have great influence on conflict mediation becomes a key source to establishing communication study as one of mediation fields in conflicts.

  • This study aims to examine the characteristics of YouTube space, focusing on YouTube contents related to conflict. From 2012 to 2022, conflict-related contents posted on YouTube was collected and the major topics and characteristics were identified through topic modeling analysis. The results reveal that YouTube contents related to conflict consisted mainly of news reports on social structural conflicts and broadcast programs dealing with family conflicts. These results make us worry that YouTube space will function as a means of generating profits for existing broadcasting contents rather than expecting that it can be used as the public sphere for conflict-related issues. It is time for in-depth discussions on how our society will use YouTube in the future.

  • This study aimed to present that the understanding of the relational structure among stakeholders of a national park with the usage of 'social network analysis' can help more effectively to diagnose conflicts among stakeholders and to resolve them, Conducting a telephone-interview survey with 12 stakeholders of the Taean-Haean National Park, Republic of Korea, this study examined their perception of conflicts related to the park, and compared their social networks when their conflicts emerged with their networks when the conflicts did not appear. When the conflicts appeared, the more respondents tried to seek other information sources apart from the Korea National Park Service (KNPS) and the fewer interactions among the stakeholders occurred than when the conflicts were not present. Based on the findings, it was suggested that KNPS need not to directly distribute information to the stakeholders, and to create the third party to generate more interaction and cooperative relationship among the stakeholders, Thus, it can be said that the employment of social network analysis is worth being employed in the study of conflict management in national parks.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the moderating effect of each of the three stress response (problem-centered treatment, pursuit of social support, and positive thinking) in the effect of work-family conflict between dual-earner couples on marriage satisfaction. To this end, 369 married couples (369 wives, 369 husbands) who raise children under the age of 6 were surveyed on stress coping (problem-centered, social support, and positive thinking), work-family conflicts, and marriage satisfaction. Based on the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM), the collected data verified six research models by distinguishing the moderating effects of each of the three coping strategies from the direction of Work to Family conflict and Family to Work conflict. Interaction graphs were also presented to determine the pattern of significant buffering effects. As a result, first of all, the problem-oriented strategy of the wife buffer the negative impact of the husband's WFC on the husband's own and wife's marriage satisfaction. It was also found that problem-oriented strategy that husband himself uses to buffer the negative impact of the husband's FWC on his wife's marriage satisfaction. Second, the pursuit of social support confirmed that the negative effects of the husband's WFC on the husband's marriage satisfaction were mitigated by the pursuit of social support used by his wife. Third, in the case of positive thinking, the effect of the positive thinking on the husband's WFC on the marriage satisfaction of the husband and wife was shown, and the positive response effect of the wife's FWC conflict was also shown. Finally, based on the results of this study, the discussion and implications of the study were presented.

  • This study sought to find out the impact of conflicts in social welfare organizations on job performance and to find out the effects of controlling participatory decision-making in their relationships. To that end, a survey was conducted on workers at social welfare centers in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and Chungcheong Province, and 360 copies were finally used for analysis and Correlation and hierarchical regression and statistical significance analysis of the adjustment effects were performed. As a result, conflicts within the organization, job performance, and participatory decision-making showed a negative correlation, and as participatory decision-making in the relationship between conflict within the organization and job performance showed a controlled effect, the impact of conflicts within the organization on job performance was reduced. These results suggest that participatory decision-making can alleviate conflicts within an organization and at the same time increase job performance. Based on this, the following suggestions were proposed: They include conflict management strategies in the guidelines for social welfare subjects, establish guidelines for conflict management, provide training for workers, engage workers in employee evaluation and compensation system development, and operate permanent organizations such as the Conflict Handling Committee after investigating conflicts within social welfare organizations.
