One of the major advantages of using engineering plastics is ease of part assembly through a locking mechanism known as a snap fit. The typical snap fit involves a short cantilever beam with a projection at the free end. which slides over a one way ramp on the mating part to lock in place. The tightness of the mechanism is determined by the lateral interference of the two sliding members If too small they become loose and can't hold together. while if too large. excessive force can be generated. causing failure of the cantilever beam during the assembly operation. Therefore. the accurate determination of the force-deflection relationship for cantilever beams is a key element in snap fit design. And also. the process of injection molding should be considered when cantilever beam is designed. But it is not easy for novice designers to design them appropriately because of the profound knowledge related to injection molding. In this paper. an intelligent design program has been developed and proposed to improve a conventional empirical design method.

In this paper, we designed and manufactured HD Switch Panel parts with micro-etched pattern. By using CAE analysis, we could predict weld-line positions and the amount of shrinkage during injection molding process. We measured the temperature distribution of the mold surface so that we could optimize the processing conditions such as mold temperature. In order to increase the transcription of micro-etched pattern, we applied the E-Mold technology and evaluated the effect of mold temperature on the surface quality. We concluded that the etched pattern was improved(more than 2.5$\to$1.5~1.7) through the measurement of surface gloss and the observation of both SEM and SPM images.
MCPs means Micro Cellular Plastics. The micro-cells are generated in the products by the difference of dissolution through the pressure drop after super critical fluid of CO2 or N2 dissolves into polymer. We have developed injection molding process adopting MCPs and applied it to a broad range of injection molded thermoplastic materials and applications. It can prevent the leakage of impact strength and increase the thermal conductivity, moreover regulate the thermal conductivity. Then we can develop the high strength foaming plastics. Also, it can be gained a competitive advantage by utilizing its processing benefits, e.g. the lightweight products and significant reductions in material consumption.
Deformation analysis of injection molded articles whose geometry is considered as the assembly of the thin flat plates has been conducted. For the in-mold analysis, thermo-viscoelastic stress calculation of rheologically simple amorphous polymer and in-mold deformation calculation considering the in-plane mold constraint has been done. Free volume theory has been used for the non-equilibrium density state by the fast cooling. At ejection, the redistribution of stress together with instantaneous deformation has been considered. During out-of-mold cooling after ejection, thermoelastic model based on the effective temperature has been adopted for the calculation of deformation. Two typical mold geometries are used to test the numerical simulation.

Optimization of multi-quality characteristics in injection molded parts is very important, but it is sometimes difficult for part/mold designers. The objective of this study is to develop a practical design methodology for optimizing two-quality characteristics of injection molded parts. To attain this end, we developed a new design-range reduction algorithm based on Taguchi's orthogonal arrays for two characteristics. Then, the algorithm was integrated with commercial injection-molding simulation tools. A feature of the proposed methodology is that it allows field-designers unfamiliar with general optimization methods to be able to apply the methodology to their design problems with ease. Finally, we have applied the proposed design methodology to optimization of weldlines and deflections in an actual bezel model. The results show the usefulness of this methodology.

This paper proposes an error compensation method that improves accuracy with geometry information of injection molding parts. Geometric information can give an improved accuracy in reverse engineering. Measuring data can not lead to get accurate geometric model, including errors of physical parts and measuring machines. Measuring data include errors which can be classified into two types. One is molding error in product, the other is measuring error. Measuring error includes optical error of laser scanner, deformation by probe forces of CMM and machine error. It is important to compensate these in reverse engineering. Least square method(LSM) provides the cloud data with a geometry compensation, improving accuracy of geometry. Also, the functional shape of a part and design concept can be reconstructed by error compensation using geometry information.

In the present study, gas-assisted molding and structural vibration analysis of hollow long cylinder with the variation of gas injection pressure are performed. Though there are so many parameters such as delay time, injection pressure, and gas pressure on gas-assisted molding, the latter has the most dominant effect on this process. Therefore, the present paper deals with the effects of gas pressure on the dynamic stiffness of the model by means of vibration analysis and then suggests the fundamental materials which can be directly adapted to manufacturing lines.
In the manufacture and processing of large plastic materials, product quality is tested and verified through several techniques such as injection processing, residual stress through injection molding and shrinkage. With regards to the injection molding process, common problems such as inconsistent density is seen when different points of the product are discovered to have varying thickness levels. Sink marks in product are then evident. This occurs when there is poor molding conditions caused about by poor runner and packaging systems incorporated into the process. We designed the runner system which is possible balanced filling to cavities using CAE program $Moldflow^{TM}$ and then obtained optimal processing conditions by Taguchi's Robust Design technique.

The shrinkages of injection molded parts are different in molding operational conditions, resins and additives. The shrinkage of injection molded part for crystalline polymer, PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) has been studied for various operational conditions of injection molding and content of additives. Mica was used as a additive to PBT to examine the part shrinkage according to the mica content. The part shrinkages of mica contained PBT decreased as mica content increases. Higher injection temperature and injection pressure resulted in a lower shrinkage. As mold temperature increases the part shrinkage decreased. The part shrinkage of flow direction was less than that of the perpendicular direction to the flow for both pure and mica contained PBT. However the shrinkage difference between flow and perpendicular to flow directions decreased as mica content increased.

In this study, the automatic packaging system for small injection molding product is developed. In most of injection molding company, many problems such as manpower problem, productivity decline and inferiority rate increase are occurred since processes after injection molding are executed by hands. The automatic system which is developed is for packaging small injection molding products as 6mm ball. Finally, many problems of injection molding process are resolved and the productivity will increase by applying developed system to field and this technique lays the groundwork for developing similar automatic system.
