A Study about Improvement of Web-based Diagnosis-Supplement System Interface for basic academic competencies based on Affordance Theory (어포던스 이론에 근거한 기초학력 진단-보정 시스템의 사용자 인터페이스 개선 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify affordance usability problems and to improve an interface on the Web-based Diagnosis-Supplement system from learner's perspective in order to promote to be utilized as an user-friendly system. To address those goals, user testings with 6 students from 4th grade of the primary school and 3rd grade of the middle school were conducted and the firstly improved prototypes were suggested. Then, the suggested prototypes were reviewed by experts and finalized. This study has an implication on the methodology of the usability study by evaluating the system through the Hartson's 3 affordance theory. In addition, it contributes to improving pedagogical effects by the fixing serious affordance usability problems related to main tasks of the system such as the test questions and score visualization and matching between system and real world.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accessibility of the Cakewalk TTS-1 for the screen reader users. An evaluation was performed by testing the accessibility of a editing virtual instrument that is a part of MIDI production based on the NCS(National Competency Standards) by using the TTS-1 and the Sense Reader. The results of this study are as follows. The TTS-1 itself can't provide enough accessibility for the screen users to do an above task. But the screen reader users can perform the above tasks if they use extended access functions like Sense Reader's Mouse Pointer function, Position Memory function and MIDI Control Signal function. Even if they use the extended access function, there are functions that is difficult to access. To solve this problem, several suggestions are proposed.

An Evaluation of Twitter Ranking Using the Retweet Information (재전송 정보를 활용한 트위터 랭킹의 정확도 평가)

  • Recently, as Social Network Services(SNS), such as Twitter, Facebook, are becoming more popular, much research has been doing actively. However, since SNS has been launched recently, related researches are also infant level. Especially, search engines serviced in web potals simply show the postings in order of upload time. Searching the postings in Twitter should be different from web search, which is based on traditional TF-IDF. In this paper, we present the new method of searching and ranking the interesting postings in Twitter. In proposed method, we utilize the frequency of retweets as a major factor for estimating the quality of postings. It can be an important criteria since users tend to retweet the valuable postings. Experimental results show that proposed method can be applied successfully in Twitter search system.

A Rank-based Similarity Measure for Collaborative Filtering Systems (협력 필터링 시스템을 위한 순위 기반의 유사도 척도)

  • Collaborative filtering is a methodology to recommend websites by obtaining data and opinions from the other users with similar tastes. During the past few years, this method has been used in various fields such as books, food, and movies in e-commerce systems. This study addresses the computation of similarity between users to determine items to be recommended in collaborative filtering systems. Previous studies measured similarity between users by treating each user's ratings independently without considering the distribution of the user's ratings. In contrast, this study measures similarity by utilizing position and rank information of each rating in the range of the user's ratings. The result of the experiments on the real datasets demonstrated that the proposed method improves the mean absolute error significantly, compared to the previous methods, especially when the predetermined range of ratings is large.

  • Recently varieties of user groups are formed as the number of people using cyber chatting gets increased and there are many changes in the range and field of its use. But because most of the cyber chatting systems are being operated to enlarge the additional sonics use, the using environments are stereotyped. And as its function is being various as well, it can not provide with a user-centered environment. So this thesis compares and analyzes the problems derived from the usability evaluation for solving the problems in using cyber chatting systems, and presents the guidelines of emotion-intended user interface design for improving the usability as the result of the analysis. First, this study investigates cyber chatting systems as a means of web communication tools through the existing literatures. Secondly, this study finds out the problems in using them through satisfaction evaluation, heuristic evaluation, performance evaluation, and observation evaluation and presents a way of solving the provisional problems in using them as the analysis of the result of usability evaluation. And this was proceeded for the purpose of applying and activating the better usability evaluation of cyber chatting systems later. Through the usability evaluation, it is found out that the structuralization of chatting function, the screen visibility by the size and arrangement of the compositional elements of a screen, and the improvement and development of the proper metaphor use of images and functions by the communication environment are necessary.

  • With the recent development of virtual reality, it has been actively investigated to develop user interfaces for immersive interaction. Immersive user interfaces improve the efficiency and the capability of information processing in the virtual environment providing various services, and provide effective interaction in the field of ubiquitous and mobile computing. In this paper, we propose an virtual reality platform "My Workspace" which renders an 3D virtual workspace by using an immersive user interface. We develop an interface that integrates an optical see-through head-mounted display, a Wii remote controller, and a helmet with infrared LEDs. It estimates the user's gaze direction in terms of horizontal and vertical angles based on the model of head movements. My Workspace expands the current 2D workspace based on monitors into the layered 3D workspace, and renders a part of 3D virtual workspace corresponding to the gaze direction. The user can arrange various tasks on the virtual workspace and switch each task by moving his head. In this paper, we will also verify the performance of the immersive user interface as well as its usefulness with the usability test.

  • 본 연구는 공공부문에서 적용할 수 있는 현실적이고 경제성 있는 USN 서비스 모델을 발굴하고 USN 서비스를 도입하기 위한 방안을 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 공공부문 USN 도입 방안에 대한 제시는 서비스의 특성을 충분히 고려하여야 하며, 적절한 서비스 요구사항에 대한 평가를 기반으로 도입되고 추진되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 과정을 수행하기 위하여 2차례에 걸친 사용자 분석을 수행하였다. 우선 다양한 서비스 모델의 발굴하기 위한 1차 조사를 수행하여 여러가지 우수한 USN 서비스 모델을 발굴하였고, 이를 바탕으로 사용자를 중심으로 한 2차 조사를 실시하여 서비스의 특성 등을 분석하였다. 이렇게 조사된 자료는 서비스 요구사항 평가 모델 등을 바탕으로 평가되어 USN 서비스를 단계적으로 확산하는 전략에 활용되고 있다.

  • In the last several decades of 20 century, the user oriented design concept has evolved in more concrete ways, producing POE and UPD(User Participated design). These concepts are ways of achieving the fit between built environments and human needs. These, technique in the digital world has implied and promoted lots of experimental ways to interact with possible users before the construction stages in the design process to reduce the results, stemming from ineffective planning and designing. The purpose of this paper is to show an evaluation technique in the design cycle. An actually designed child care facility was evaluated before construction by potential users. For this purpose, focused group interview was employed.

  • 자동차 인테리어 디자인에 있어서 색상은 외형디자인과 함께 사용자의 감성적 평가를 결정짓는 중요한 요인중의 하나이다. 그러나 이러한 중요성에도 불구하고 이에 대한 체계적인 연구가 이루어지지 않고 있는데 그 주된 이유로 자동차 프로토타입 모델의 완성 전에 가상적인 색상 배색 시뮬레이션을 해 볼 수 있는 기술적 기반이 미약했음을 들 수 있다. 다행히 최근의 컴퓨터 하드웨어 발달로 자동차 색상계획 단계에서 실시간으로 색채 배색효과를 시뮬레이션 할 수 있는 환경의 구축이 가능해지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 색상이미지에 대한 사용자 감성척도를 기반으로 색상 배색 디자인을 지원할 수 있는 자동차 인테리어 색상 배색 지원 시스템을 제안하고자 한다. 지원 시스템은 색상 감성 요소의 수집을 위한 정보수집 모듈, 색채 감성과 색상 속성의 상관관계를 추출하기 위한 컬러 감성 해석 모듈, 디자이너의 색상 배색을 지원하기 위한 시뮬레이션 모듈, 도출된 배색의 평가 테스트를 위한 평가 지원 모듈로 구성된다.

Understanding Collaborative Tags and User Behavioral Patterns for Improving Recommendation Accuracy (추천 시스템 정확도 개선을 위한 협업태그와 사용자 행동패턴의 활용과 이해)

  • Due to the ever expanding nature of the Web, separating more valuable information from the noisy data is getting more important. Although recommendation systems are widely used for addressing the information overloading issue, their performance does not seem meaningfully improved in currently suggested approaches. Hence, to investigate the issues, this study discusses different characteristics of popular, existing recommendation approaches, and proposes a new profiling technique that uses collaborative tags and test whether it successfully compensates the limitations of the existing approaches. In addition, the study also empirically evaluates rating/tagging patterns of users in various recommendation approaches, which include the proposed approach, to learn whether those patterns can be used as effective cues for improving the recommendations accuracy. Through the sensitivity analyses, this study also suggests the potential associated with a single recommendation system that applies multiple approaches for different users or items depending upon the types and contexts of recommendations.
