Presumption on Wear life of TiN Film (TiN 경질박막의 마모 수명 예측에 관한 연구)

  • TiN 코팅은 마모에 대한 저항성 및 고체 윤활 효과가 매우 우수하여 내마모성 및 저마찰이 요구되는 절삭공구나 피스톤 베어링 및 각종 축계의 코팅막으로 사용이 증가되고 있다. 일반적으로 재료의 경도와 인성은 서로 상반 관계를 갖고 있어 공학적으로 경도와 인성을 모두 요구하는 표면을 얻기 위해 연질 모재 위의 세라믹 코팅은 그 요구를 만족시킬 수 있는 가장 각광받는 표면처리 방법중의 하나이다. 그러나, TiN과 같은 경질 박막의 공학적 적용시 가장 요구되는 마모수명은 모재의 조도나 경도, 증착 방법, 접촉 상태, 코팅막의 두께 및 마모의 발생 기구 등에 따라 마찰 및 마모 메커니즘의 현저한 차이를 나타내기 때문에 예측이 거의 불가능한 실정이고, 아직까지 이러한 마모수명 비교 평가방법에 대한 기준 설정 및 정량적 정립이 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 연구에서는 모재의 경도, 조도, 코팅 두께가 다른 TiN 경질 박막에 압입시험과 스크래치시험시 발생되는 균열 발생 메커니즘과 미끄럼 시험시 발생되는 마모 메커니즘의 연계성을 밝히고 압입 및 스크래치 시험시 코팅막이 손상되는 임계하중과 미끄럼 시험시 접촉하중 변화에 따른 마모수명의 정량적 연관성을 찾아보고자 한다.

A Fracture Mechanics Analysis on Fatigue Life Estimation of DEN Plate (DEN판재의 피로수명 평가에 관한 파괴역학적 연구)

  • This paper mainly deals with fatigue lift estimation and prediction in notched structures. The fatigue crack initiation life and the fatigue crack growth behavior in the DEN specimens were predicted using S.I.F. K solution derived in this study and the Paris' crack growth equation. Predicted results showed good agreement with experimental crack growth behaviors under constant-load-amplitude.

경도측정을 이용한 고온 사용설비의 잔여수명 예측

  • 고온 사용 설비의 잔여수명을 진단하는 비파괴적인 여러 가지 방법 중에서 현장에서 간단히 측 정을 함으로써 경년열화 정도를 비교적 쉽게 알아낼 수 있는 경도법에 대하여 살펴보았다. 이 방법은 크립손상 평가뿐만 아니라 피로 손상 평가에도 사용되고 있으며 외국의 경우 현장에서 많이 사용되고 있는, 가장 보편화된 방법 중의 하나이다. 국내의 경우에도 노후화된 고온 사용 설비가 상당수되기 때문에 설비의 안전성이나 경제적인 운용을 위해서 이들의 손상 정도를 정 기적으로 진단할 필요성이 매우 크나 이에 대한 연구 성과는 외국에 비하여 미미한 편이기 때 문에 앞으로 이에 대한 많은 노력이 이루어져야 한다고 생각되나. 특히 현장에서는 휴대용 시 험기를 사용하여야 하나 수명평가에는 비커스 경도값을 사용하고 있기 때문에 이들의 경도 환 산에 대한 D/B 확충이 시급한 실정이다. 또한 기존 기술의 습득 및 손상 평가의 정확도 향상, 새로운 방법들의 개발 그리고 이들의 현장 적용 등을 위해서는 실기 사용재의 입수, 정보교환, 전문가시스템(expert system) 개발을 위한 D/B 구축 등 산 . 학 . 연의 협동이 절실히 요구된다.

  • When rubber elastomer has contact with fuel, since the component and additive having low molecular weight can flow out, the physical properties of both elastomer and fuel could be hindered. In order to predict the life of the rubber elastomer, this study is to determine the change of weight, thickness, hardness, strain, and compression set as mechanical properties of the sealant rubber O-ring, which was dependent on volume, temperature, and storage time of the contacted fuel. We also determined purity of fuel via GC analysis and measured gross heat of combution. The results could be used as a reference to evaluate the life of the rubber elastomer.

  • Rubber components are widely used in many application such as vibration isolators, damping, ride quality. Rubber spring is used in primary suspension system for railway vehicle. Characteristics and useful life prediction of rubber spring was very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability. Non-linear properties of rubber material which are described as strain energy function are important parameter to design and evaluate of rubber spring. These are determined by physical tests which are uniaxial tension, equi-biaxial tension and pure shear test. The computer simulation was executed to predict and evaluate the load capacity and stiffness for rubber spring. In order to investigate the useful life, the acceleration test were carried out. Acceleration test results changes as the threshold are used for assessment of the useful life and time to threshold value were plotted against reciprocal of absolute temperature to give the Arrhenius plot. By using the acceleration test, several useful life prediction for rubber spring were proposed.

Remaining Life Assessment of High Temperature Steam Piping (고온 증기 파이프의 잔여수명 평가)

  • Recently, more researches have been actively performed for the assessment of material degradation and residual-life of elevated temperature plant components, as some of domestic fossil power plants become older than 30 years. In this paper, results of on_site residual life assessment are reported for main steam pipes of Youngwol power station #2 which have operated since 1965. For critical weld locations such as butt welds branch welds, Y_sections and a T-section, replication technique and hardness measurement technique were employed for life_assessment. When cracks were detected by conventional NDT tests, crack growth life was calculated using a computer code. On the other hand, for matrix of pipes, residual life was quantitatively estimated by an analytic method and material degradation was estimated qualitatively using diameter measurement data and grain-boundary etching method. Also, direction in further improvement of on-site life assessment techniques are proposed.

  • It has been increasingly recognized that the safety analysis considering fracture mechanics is required of the pressure vessels made of 2 1/4 Cr-1Mo steel for safe operation due to temper-embrittlement during long term service. In this study, the fracture toughnesses of degraded and recovered 2 1/4 Cr-1Mo steels have been studied with J$_{IC}$ test specimens at room temperature and the results will be compared with the data obtained from the Charpy impact test. The fracture toughness data from above experiments will be applied to life prediction based on the surface crack growth for degraded and recovered Cr-Mo pressure vessels.

  • This study proposes a method for predicting the reliability of the barrel in small arms by analyzing the dispersion. The periodicity with which the barrel needs to be changed can be determined by detecting the inner surface directly or by inspecting scratches inside the barrel using an optical sensor. However, soldiers and directors in the logistics command need a more easy way to check the periodicity of barrel. Therefore, this study focuses on the relation between the firing round and the dispersion. A simple equation can be experimentally derived from pre-tests and analyses. This equation is confirmed through firing tests. In this sense, it can be easily applied to determine the periodicity with which the barrel of small arms needs to be changed in the field army.

  • The Ni-base super-heat-resistant alloy, GTD-111, is employed in gas turbines because of its high temperature strength and oxidation resistance. It is important to predict the fatigue life of this superalloy in order to improve the efficiency of gas turbines. In this study, low-cycle fatigue tests are performed as variables of total strain range and temperature. The relationship between the strain energy density and number of cycles to failure is examined in order to predict the low-cycle fatigue life of the GTD-111 superalloy. The fatigue life predicted by using the strain-energy methods is found to coincide with that obtained from the experimental data and from the Coffin-Manson method.

Service Life Prediction and Cost Estimation of Repaired Concrete Structures Under Marine Environment (염해 환경 하 보수된 콘크리트 구조물의 사용수명 예측 및 보수 비용 평가)

  • The service life of concrete structures exposed to a marine environment can be extended by controlling the amount of chloride in cover concrete. Patching is one of the appropriate maintenance techniques for chloride contamination. Chloride-contaminated cover concrete is removed and replaced with sound one. It can provide less risk of corrosion of steel, so that the structure can be maintained for required service life. In this study, a quantitative assessment of the service life subjected to the chloride attack is proposed to determine the effective repair options such as repair depth, repair material and timing of repair. The Crank-Nicolson based finite difference formulation from Fick's second law is proposed to predict the profiles of chloride ion in a repaired concrete structure, considering ingress of chloride from outer and redistribution of residual chloride from the substrate concrete. Therefore, the repair application times and maintenance cost for the target service life can be estimated. Finally, the numerical examples are presented to ensure its applicability.
