To find out the anomalous zone in cut slope composed of phyllite and shist, we performed resistivity tomography using a pole-dipole way. The electrical distribution that propagates from a current source in lower part of slope is measured by a potential electrode in upper part of slope. Apparent resistivity data are inverted with an iterative regularized inversion method to reconstruct 3D resistivity image. By comparing with the resistivity images in relation to each section, the images of anomalous zone correspond to their positions represented in cut slope. Therefore, the application of resistivity tomography in cut slope is useful to recognize the extension of anomalous zone.

In this research, model tests have been performed for researching the seepage characteristics in the finite soil slope during the rainfall using a manufactured rainfall simulator. On the basis of the results, it has been analyzed how to change the seepage characteristics due to the duration time of rainfall. We are found that the pore-water pressure was gradually increased as increasing the duration time of rainfall. Specially, at the beginning of rainfall, the pore-water pressure in the middle surface of slope was measured larger than any point. As increasing the duration time of rainfall, the pore-water pressure at the inner part of slope was increased greatly at the collapse due to infiltrating the pore-water within the slope. In the research, it was not easy to get various test results because measuring instruments are high sensitivity and difficult to handle. For the future, the model test results are needed for the various slope angle.

In recent years slope failure due to heavy rainfalls or local downpours usually accompanied by typhoons has increasingly occurred in Korea. Also, the damages caused by slope failure have a tendency to be more disastrous than before. This study has been conducted to prepare an early warning system for slope failure by : (1) analyzing types and causes of slope failure, (2) examining the published evaluation criteria for slope stability, (3) estimating slope stability by considering the properties of slope-forming materials as well as the topographical and geological properties of slopes, and (4) determining the most important variables of affecting the stability of the slope under consideration. The data on the variations of slope conditions measured by an automatic in-situ measurement system and then transmitted to the central analysis system by using an internet. The most important variables can be back-calculated in the central system and compared with the values for the first and second management criteria. These management criteria should be modified and corrected continuously in the future by accumulated data and knowledge related to the early warning system for slope failure.

A model slope was made to work out a way of detecting the sign of the occurrence of landslides and monitoring analysis was conducted to grasp the slope displacement of Terrestrial LiDAR equipment. As a result, the image of slope displacement could be monitored quickly and the accuracy of monitoring analysis was a deviation of 0.007m, 0.006m and 0.006m on average based on the figures prior to displacement after the first, second and third displacements, respectively. As the figures represent a very small deviation, they will be able to be used helpfully in measuring the displacement of actual slope in the future.
Statistical analyses of cut-slope stability were performed over approximately 5.7 km section along the National road No. 25, which cross-cuts in NW-SE direction the Cheongwon and Boeun-Gun area, Chungbuk. A measure of slope-stability was established by using direct reinforcement and indirect protection methods in whole section. Orientations(dip/dip direction) of the slopes, foliations(bedding), cleavages and joints were measured in total of 30 slope sites. The results analyzed using stereographic projection indicate that major directions of the slopes come out predominantly in three directions: 1) $58^{\circ}/095^{\circ}$, 2) $60^{\circ}/296^{\circ}$ and 3) $59^{\circ}/212^{\circ}$. In analyses of dip direction and frequency of cut-slopes established by reinforcement and protection methods, slopes with dip direction of $80-120^{\circ}$ and $280-320^{\circ}$ mostly occur. However, slopes with dip direction of $0-80^{\circ}$(N and NW) and $120-160^{\circ}$(SE) are not distributed in the study area. Failure aspects were analyzed for three major directions of the slopes, respectively. The results of failure aspects analyzed indicate that slopes in the study area could generate various failures as the results of intersection and/or intersection combination among joints, foliations(bedding) and cleavages. However, possibility of failure in a slope of major direction No. 3 is statistically very low because of low frequency in total number of slopes with the direction and of formation of small scale-slopes geographically, although the slope might generate all aspects of failure-modes.
An instrumentation system is designed to observe the behavior of slope soil and stabilizing piles during heavy rains. Inclinometers, standpipe piezometers and strain gages are installed into a cut slope reinforced by a row .of piles for an apartment. The horizontal deflection and bending stress developed on the piles can be measured, respectively, by the inclinometers and strain gages installed in piles, while the horizontal deformation of the slope soil can be measured by the inclinometer installed in the soil across the open space between piles. The groundwater level doss not grow so sensitively during heavy rain. The behavior of piles and slope is 서footed by the wetting front, since the driving force of slope increases with the weight of slope soil above the wetting front. The stabilizing piles and the slope soil show elastic behavior during heavy rain.
Failure aspects of cut-slope, which induce the sequential collapses during the excavation stage, have been analyzed. Slope rock structures are investigated by examining the orientations and positions of discontinuity planes calculated based on the BIPS image inside the boreholes. Drilled core log has been also used to identify the structural defects. Clay minerals of swelling potentials are detected through XRD analysis. Numerical analysis for slope stability has been performed by utilizing the joint shear strength acquired from the direct joint shear test. Cut-slope collapse characteristics have been studied by investigating the posture of failure-prawn joint planes and the stability of tetrahedral blocks of different sizes. Cross-section analysis has been also performed to analyze the cut-slope behavior and to estimate the amount of reinforcement required to secure the stability of cut-slope. Behavior of reinforced cut-slope is also investigated by analyzing the slope monitoring data.
