한국데이터베이스진흥센터는 조선일보, 한국소프트웨어진흥원과 공동 주최로 지난달 15~16일 양일간 서울 소프트웨어지원 센터에서 우수 데이터베이스 전시 및 데이터베이스 구축 사례 발표회를 개최했다. 이번 행사가 어떻게 진행됐는지 살펴봤다.

본 논문에서는 선박에서 퍼지 데이터베이스를 이용하여 지능형 화재진압통제시스템의 성능을 개선시키는 방법에 대하여 논의하였다. 규칙과 사례가 통합된 화재진압통제 전문가시스템(C-FFES)에서는 사례기반 추론을 하기 위한 사례베이스가 일반적인 데이터베이스로 구성되어 있어서, 이전에 화재가 발생했던 사례와 현재의 사례가 유사한지를 구별하기가 쉽지 않은 문제점을 지니고 있다. 제안하는 시스템에서는 예외적인 상황에서 화재가 발생하는 사례를 퍼지데이터베이스로 구성하고, 현 상황과 예외적인 상황에서 화재가 발생하는 사례를 조회하기 위하여 퍼지 유사도 개념을 적용하여 현재 입력된 사례와 가장 유사한 사례가 조회될 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 기존의 규칙 기반 FFES(Fire Fighting Expert System), 사례기반 추론에 의해 확장된 C-FFES(Combined-Fire Fighting Expert System) 그리고 제안하는 A-FFES(Advanced Fire fighting Expert System)를 비교를 통해, 제안하는 A-FFES가 화재탐지율을 향상시킴을 보였다.

현재 국내 유통업계, 신용카드업계 및 금융계 등을 중심으로 데이터베이스 마케팅 활동이 전개되고 있다. 이러한 추세는 정보 기술의 발전, 홈쇼핑 및 통신판매업계의 급신장, 인터넷으로 대표되는 새로운 광고 매체의 발전, 이를 이용한 전자 상거래의 도입 등으로 더욱 가속화되리라 예상된다. 본 고에서는 이러한 추세에 부응하여, 선진국 유통업계의 데이터베이스 마케팅 사례를 소개한다. 하나는 캐나다의 Eaton 백화점의 고객 관리 사례이며, 다른 하나는 영국의 Tesco 수퍼체인의 데이터베이스 마케팅 사례이다.

In this study, a design-supporting system, which is intended to assist engineers in the schematic phase of the structural design, is developed using a case database that contains design information of tall buildings in Korea. A case-based reasoning method utilizing the case database is proposed. The inductive retrieval module for selecting structural system, in the initial stage, from the design information of case database for 47 tall buildings is presented. Also, the nearest-neighbor retrieval method for selecting similar design cases is introduced.

In this paper we introduce a novel database research area called science of databases (SoDB) and carry out a comprehensive analysis of its case studies. SoDB aims to better understand interesting phenomena observed across multiple database management systems (DBMSes). While mathematical and engineering work in the database field has been dominant, less attention has been given to scientific approaches through which DBMSes can be better understood. Scientific investigations can lead to better engineered designs through deeper understanding of query optimizers and transaction processing. The SoDB research has investigated several interesting phenomena observed across different DBMSes and provided several engineering implications based on our uncovered results. In this paper we introduce a novel scientific, empirical methodology and describe the research infrastructure to enable the methodology. We then review each of a selected group of phenomena studied and present an identified structural causal model associated with each phenomenon. We also conduct a comprehensive analysis on the case studies. Finally, we suggest future directions to expand the SoDB research.
