Exploration on Writing Ability Considering Thinking Styles in Engineering Freshmen (공과대학 신입생의 사고양식을 고려한 글쓰기 능력 탐색)

  • This research aims to explore the relationships between academic writing ability and 'thinking styles' (capable of representing individual differences and diversity) in engineering freshmen in Korea, and to draw educational implications for the development of instructional strategies. (Academic) Writing is not just about conveying an idea or content, it is also about the representation of writer's self. In this perspective, there has been some research conducted on writing (process) and personality. However, to date, little attention has been paid to writing ability of engineering students and its relationships with thinking styles. This study was conducted with 127 engineering freshmen as well as 67 non-engineering freshmen at H University, and students' writing ability as well as their thinking styles have been measured before and after writing class for 15 weeks. Our findings show that firstly, there was a significant difference of writing ability by majors. Second, there were significant differences in freshmen's thinking styles by majors. Third, there was significant differences of writing ability according to thinking styles. Freshmen's internal, legislative and hierarchical styles scored significantly higher in writing ability than the others. And as for the engineering freshmen, internal, external and global styles scored significantly higher in writing ability than the others. Finally, there was a weak but significant relationship between writing ability and thinking styles(hierarchical & internal). These findings are expected to provide an explanation for the development of instructional strategies of writing (related) courses in engineering school.

  • 지난 2004년 6월 24일에 공표된 신BIS 자기자본규제제도에 의거 회원국 은행들에 대한 체계적인 위험관리가 강화되는 상황에서 우리나라도 2009년부터 모든 은행이 신BIS기준을 도입및 적용할 예정이다. 신BIS협약은 운영리스크(부적절한 내부절차, 직원, 시스템)에 대해서도 리스크를 측정하여 은행의 소요 자기자본에 반영토록 하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구자는 은행의 조직환경 변수들이 조직유효성에 영향을 미치고 이들이 또한 내부통제절차의 상시 유효성에 영향을 미치는 지 알아보기 위하여 국내 소재 은행원들을 대상으로 실증분석함으로써 은행들이 효율적인 내부통제를 통해 금융사고를 미연에 방지하고 은행자산의 건전성에 기여하기 위한 지침을 제시하는 관점에서 연구를 진행하였다. 연구결과, 연구모형에서 예상한 바와 같이 조직환경이 내부통제유효성에 직접적으로 영향을 미치지만 조직몰입도나 집단응집력과 같은 조직유효성을 매개로 하여 내부통제유효성에 더욱더 영향을 미치고 있었다. 이러한 점에 비추어 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 은행내 중간관리자의 성향에 따라 개별조직 구성원들의 행동양식이나 가치관에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 현실을 감안하여 장기적인 안목에서 양질의 리더십, 조직문화 그리고 분위기 등 조직환경을 리드해 나갈 수 있도록 관리자들에 대한 교육훈련 및 소양교육을 지속적으로 펼쳐나가는 것이 중요하다고 본다.

Effect of Cooperative Learning on Problem Solving in Programming Learning (프로그래밍 학습에서 협동학습이 문제해결력에 미치는 효과)

  • Programming learning tend to improve the high thinking ability by experiencing problem solving process through programming recently, There are the previous studies that small group cooperative learning has the effect of the learning that is based logical thinking and creativity, while programming learning has relied on individual learner's thinking and principles traditionally. In this paper, it was verified the effect on improving the problem solving ability to perform by the small cooperative learning group in a problem solving process of programming learning. For this, it was developed and applied a model that include small cooperative learning group based on the problem solving 5 steps. The results of this study showed that the small cooperative learning group has positive effect of the problem solving ability in programming learning and has no relationship with cognitive style.

  • The off-screen space openness of the movies converted a unilateral communication, which films have made audiences understand with, into an interactive communication. When the spectators see a movie, the off-screen space will be able to take out their positivity and induce their deep thinking. They won't accept information of the screen by manual operation but will participate in the narrative stories of the cinemas, thinking about the reality. In the paper, it shows that the motion pictures, which Jean Renoir and Michelangelo Antonioni produced, consist of the expressive forms of the off-screen space as well as a human has the ability sense, feeling, perception and memory associated with interacting between the off-screen space and audiences.

Comparison of Thinking Styles between Gifted Elementary Students in Science and Invention (초등 과학영재와 발명영재의 사고양식 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare thinking styles between the gifted students in science and invention The subjects were 191 gifted elementary students in science and 182 gifted elementary students in invention, who enrolled in gifted education program. They were given the Thinking Style Inventory (TSI) that standardized Korea version by Yun (1997), which constructed 13 thinking styles of 5 dimensions (functions, forms, levels, scopes, and leanings of the mental self-government). The collected data were analyzed by independent sampling t-test and ANOVA with SPSS. The findings of this study were as follows: the gifted in science prefer executive, oligarchic, and global thinking styles rather than the gifted in invention. Meanwhile, the gifted in invention prefer legislative, judicial, local, and liberal thinking styles rather than the gifted in science. Both of the gifted in science and invention prefer legislative, executive, monarchic, anarchic, external, and liberal thinking styles. There was statistically significant differences between boys and girls in executive, oligarchic, local, and liberal thinking styles of the gifted in science.

  • In this paper, we deal with the teaching of algebra based on patterns and generalization. The past algebra curriculum starts with letters(variables), algebraic expressions, and equations, but these formal approaching method has many difficulties in the school algebra. Therefore we insist the new algebraic approaches should be needed. In order to develop these instructions, we firstly investigate the relationship of patterns and algebra, the relationship of generalization and algebra, the steps of generalization from patterns and levels of difficulties. Next we look into the algebra instructions based arithmetic patterns, visual patterns and functional situations. We expect that these approaches help students learn algebra when they begin school algebra.

An Analysis of Storytelling Factors and Mathematics Contents of 'Eddy, the Clever Fox' on TV Animation (TV 애니메이션'똑똑박사 에디'의 스토리텔링 요소와 수학내용 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze storytelling factors and mathematics contents of 'Eddy, the clever fox' on TV animation. The scenario and animation were analyzed according as criterion based on relevant materials. The results are as follows: First, Characters are 11 animals, Eddy is a problem solver. An ordinary story happens in the snow-covered woodland village. There is no story plot. And the story consists dialogue, song and narration. Second, mathematics contents in the animation appear in order number sense, geometry, measurement, data analysis and probability, pattern. So 'Eddy, the clever fox' is valuable as edutainment.

Analysis of risk factors for safety accidents for fisher onboard aquaculture fisheries management vessel (양식어업 어장관리선에 승선하는 어선원의 안전사고 위험요인 분석)

  • This study aimed to quantitatively analyze the risk using data from 329 safety accidents that occurred in aquaculture fisheries management vessels over the recent five years (2018-2022). For quantitative risk analysis, the Bayesian network proposed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) was used to analyze the risk level according to the fishing process and cause of safety accidents. Among the work processes, the fishing process was analyzed to have the highest risk, being 12.5 times that of the navigation, 2.7 times that of the maintenance, and 8.8 times that of the loading and unloading. Among the causes of accidents, the hull and working environment showed the highest risk, being 1.7 times that of fishing gear and equipment, 4.7 times that of machinery and equipment, and 9.4 times that of external environment. By quantitatively analyzing the safety accident risks for 64 combinations of these four work processes and four accident causes, this study provided fundamental data to reduce safety accidents occurring in aquaculture fisheries management vessels.

  • Behavior Economics, a branch of social sciences, which seeks to find the answers about why man sometimes does absurd economy-related things, came into existence through combining economics and psychology. To the contrary of the traditional economics', behavior economics has developed by explaining how man makes economy-related choices by means of applying their own cognitive principles. Individuals lack the information on the goods and services in the market, and don't know how to make best use of the obtained information, failing to achieve maximum utility. Therefore, man's rationality is meant to be confined to bounded rationality. It is the very Heuristic that does work in the process of this simplified decision making process. Heuristic utilizes established empirical notion and specific information, and that's why there can be cognitive biases sometimes leading to inaccurate judgment. As Oral Literature is basically based on heavy guesswork and perceptual biases of general public, it is imperative to contemplate oral literature in the framework of Heuristic of behavior economics. This thesis deals with thinking types and behavioral patterns of the short-piece proverbs, folklore language-game riddles on the basis of personal or public memory. As a result, it is evident that proverbs point out biases arising from human behaviors, while riddles make full or active use of biases.

  • It is true that many tales delivered in an 'Story-telling' auditorium or theater have not so much exquisite and refined forms as distorted and deteriorated ones. Furthermore, when false interpretations of tale-performers added into the category of the texts of tales, the problems can be made worse. In case of oral folk tales, there can be discordance between the standpoint of a tale-performer and the contents of a tale. This thesis is directly aimed at pointing out the 'Behavior Economics' problems concerned with the reading and interpretation of tales through investigating the missing parts of a text in reading tales. Man's rationality is meant to be confined to bounded rationality. Instead of making best choices, bounded rationality leads consumers to make a decision which they think suffices themselves to the point requiring no more consideration on the given item. It is the very Heuristic that does work in the process of this simplified decision making process. Heuristic utilizes established empirical notion and specific information, and that's why there can be cognitive 'Biases' sometimes leading to inaccurate judgment.
