  • As computational thinking has been noted as an important competency worldwide, SW education was introduced in the 2015 revised curriculum, and SW education has been applied to the curriculum from 2018. However, in a poor educational environment, the educationally underprivileged class is in the blind spot of SW education and is not receiving systematic SW education. Therefore, this study analyzed the effect of conducting a non-face-to-face SW online education program for 267 underprivileged elementary school students in education at a time when non-face-to-face online education was being conducted through the COVID-19 mass infectious disease. As a result of conducting the computational thinking ability test, which abstraction, problem decomposition, algorithm, automation, and data processing, before and after education, the overall score of computational thinking and the score of all five factors were statistically significantly increased(p<0.001). Among the five factors, there was the highest score improvement in data processing score. These results suggest that the non-face-to-face SW online education program is effective in improving the computational thinking ability of elementary school students from the educational underprivileged class.

  • SW education has been incorporated into the regular curriculum since the 2015 curriculum due to the social changes caused by the 4th industrial revolution. The most important thing in SW education is the improvement of Computational Thinking. The study on the underprivileged who have little opportunity for education was relatively inadequate. In this study, CT competency of 135 underprivileged students were measured who were suffering from educational underprivileged. The underprivileged students were recruited from 15 local children's centers in Namyangju city and recruited 210 general students from B elementary schools in Namyangju city by setting up a selection criterion. As a result of comparing the CT competence between the two groups, it was found that the CT competence of the underprivileged students was lower than that of the general students, and suggested several implications with this result.

  • This study investigated the effects of SW-efficacy on computational thinking STEAM literacy and the dual mediation effects of interest and student engagement in the relationship between SW-efficacy, computational thinking and STEAM literacy in robot-utilized SW convergence education. For achieving this purpose, robot-utilized SW convergence education targeting 146 middle schools students were carried out, post-survey regarding SW-efficacy, computational thinking, STEAM literacy, interest, and learning engagement were conducted. Collected data were analyzed by SPSS macro process for analysis of the dual mediation effect. Results were as follows: first, SW-efficacy had a significant effect on computational thinking and STEAM literacy. Second, interest did not mediate the relationship between SW efficacy, computational thinking and STEAM literacy, while student engagement mediated it. Third, SW efficacy had a significant effect on computational thinking and STEAM literacy dual-mediating effect of interest and student engagement. These results imply the roles of SW efficacy, interest and student engagement to improve computational thinking and STEAM literacy in robot-utilized SW education and provide implications with regard to robot-utilized SW education and instructional directions.

  • It is necessary for us to be equipped with problem-solving ability, logical thinking ability, and convergence thinking ability in the digital information age. To have these abilities, modern people in the $21^{st}$ century should be educated to develop the computational thinking ability. However, it is difficult to cultivate the computational thinking ability in current computer education curriculum. Therefore, this paper aims to propose a programming-based computer educational program to make students better understand the principles of computer science and enhance student's computational thinking ability escaping from current fragmentary and limited computer education. In order to verify the effectiveness of the educational program, students in total 42 middle school (22 students in 1st and 2nd grades and 20 in 3rd grade) were applied to the educational program for twenty-four hours on 12 weeks and then we obtained a positive result that might bring improvement on the logical thinking ability and creative problem-solving skills. As a result, this study presents the possibility of its field applications of computational thinking-based programming learning and analyzed the effectiveness. therefore, it has a notable point of presenting the development direction of a variety of education programs for enhancing the computational thinking in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate cognitive development and logical thinking formation levels of elementary gifted students and to compare with those of elementary regular students. For this purpose, 79 gifted elementary school students and 114 regular elementary school students in Kyunggi Province were participated, and GALT(Group Assessment of Logical Test) was administered to them. The results obtained in this study were as follows. First, the logical thinking scores of elementary gifted students were significantly higher than general students'(p<.05). Comparing the distribution of cognitive development level, elementary gifted students showed higher ratio in formal operation and lower ratio in concrete operation compared to the general students. It was interpreted that the cognitive development of gifted students preceded general students'. Second, analyzing according to the grade of elementary gifted students, logical thinking scores were significantly different between 5th graders and 6th graders(p<.05). Compared to 5th graders, logical thinking and formal operation ratio of 6th gifted graders showed significantly higher. The scores of four logical thinking areas except for conservational logic and correlational logic of 6th gifted graders showed significantly higher than 5th gifted graders'. Both 5th and 6th graders showed the highest formation ratio in combinational logic, and the lowest ratio in correlational logic. Third, logical thinking scores of gifted students according to gender did not show a significant difference(p>.05). The gifted boys reached formal operation more than gifted girls, but stayed more in the concrete operation. There was gender difference in correlational logic. The gifted girls showed significantly higher than gifted boys in correlational logic(p<.05).

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of learning algorithm which uses real-life examples including the concept of algorithm on the logical thinking of elementary school students. For this purpose, the experiment was performed by pre-GALT test, a case selection of algorithm which can be taught in real-life, experiment treatment after completing teaching plan, post-GALT test, and paired sample t-test on the results of pre and post GALT in order. As a result, changes in the degree of logical thinking ability and in five sub-regions(conservative logic, proportional logic, combinatorial logic, probabilistic logic, controlling variables) composing of logical thinking obtained statistically significant results in .05 significance level but changes in the correlational logic couldn't obtain the significant results.

  • The 2015 revised curriculum aims to cultivate creative convergence talent. In this regard, SW education needs to study various convergence education methods to enhance computational thinking. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of SW convergence education centered on reading education and robot utilization education to improve computing thinking ability. For this purpose, SW education teaching and learning was designed by combining SW education using card coding-based robots with reading education based on interactive works and reading on the whole work. As a result, the convergence education between reading and SW improved all three areas of the concept, practice, and perspective of computational thinking ability and increased the learner's satisfaction.
