Consequence Analysis for Accidental Gas Release in Labs (실험실 가스 누출 시 피해 영향 분석)

  • Accidents in laboratory dealing with chemicals have constantly occurred. In the case of a gas explosion or an accident related to leakage of chemical materials, the damage is much greater, thereby leading to a serious accident. Especially, the safety of laboratory in University is important because students build up knowledge and skills and accumulate experience as the main researchers. In this paper, 5 gases(CO, $NH_3$, $H_2$, $CH_4$, $N_2$) are selected to model since they are often used in university laboratories. From the scenarios where the gases are released, the diffusion process is estimated and analyzed to predict damage degree by PHAST v.6.7. Internal diffusion process is modeled through FLUENT which is Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) tool. Also, we compare indoor damage with outdoor one when discharged to the outside through the laboratory's window. In the modeling results, the outdoor damages for accident scenarios in the results are far less than then of real plants since the vessel usually used in laboratory(i.e. the capacity of the cylinder; 47 L or less) is significantly less than workplace's one(using ton measure). However as shown in the results small amount can have high consequences for indoor accidents.

Study on Recognitions of Department of Technology Education Professors Introducing 'Creative Engineering Design' Unit of Highschool Technology.Home Economics (고등학교 기술.가정 교과 '창의공학설계' 단원 신설에 따른 기술교육과 교수의 인식 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide a basis information for the education direction of 'creative engineering design' lesson to highschool students and pre-technology teachers by analyzing pre-experienced the d epartment of technology professors' recognitions, according to the newly opened unit 'creative engineering design' in 2009 revised highschool technology home economics education curriculum. The survey questionnaire was composed of 34 questions and collected from 16 department of technology education professors. The data was analyzed by SPSS program. The results of study were as follows : First, in 'creative engineering design' educational objectives, the highest average level(M) of response was problem solving ability, the opportunity of engineering experience and creativity improvement were followed. In the response about 'creative engineering design' educational contents, the average level(M) of the creative thinking method education was the highest(3.94). and the following important level was the write training education for presentation. Second, in the 'creative engineering design' educational areas, the professors preferred the idea conception, design, and production manufacturing area. In the teaching learning method, the average level(M) of design-based learning method was the first. and PBL, problem solving method were favored Third, in the 'creative engineering design' lesson manage, the secure of practice room and material cost, and the check of the progress situations were needed preferentially. In the education assessments, various and combined assessment preferred such as production, portfolio, and presentation. Fourth, in the pre-technology teachers' lesson of the university course, the product manufacturing level was preferred production to improve uncomfortable thing in life. The major difficulty in product manufacturing was the lack of major knowledge and product conception.

Liberating and Reviving the Concept of EA Business Architecture (EA 비즈니스 아키텍처 개념의 개방과 확대에 대한 제언)

  • The performance of Enterprise Architecture (EA) in the Korea's public IT domain produces mixed results and responses. On the one hand, EA earns positive remarks and enthusiasm as a central government-wide IT governance framework with its significant IT budget saving records. At the same time, however, the response to EA at the department and agency level is tainted with disappointment, fatigue, and reluctance. This essay suggests that this is perhaps caused by the sterile lackluster concept of EA Business Architecture employed in the current EA practice of the enterprise. The possibility for liberating and reviving the concept of EA Business Architecture is explored. Various conceptual axes and branches of EA Business Architecture are identified based upon extensive EA field experience and observations, and discussions are made on how the concept of EA Business Architecture can be expanded and amplified on those conceptual axes and branched. The resulting EA Business Architecture conceptualization is consolidated into an illustrative typology for EA Business Architecture. In the end the theoretical and practical implications of the research are discussed along with its contribution and limitation.

Types of Concept Figuration in Landscape Design based on Memory (기억에 기반한 조경설계의 개념 형상화 유형)

  • The designers pursue the thoughtful and wide thinking through the accumulation of knowledge and cultivation of insights for making use of high-level design philosophy and language. The purpose of this study is to investigate characteristics of concept figuration types based on designer's 'memory' in landscape design. The results of this study are as follows. First, the design idea starts to be based on the language and image memory of the designer. The figuration types are composed of the verbal and visual view which are representative communication means. Second, the verbal concept figuration of landscape design consists of two types. The symbolic language of the title as a design theme can be a 'phrase', and it should have a hierarchial balance between the master and the sub. 'Descriptive shape of conceptual scenario' is a text that expresses the concept narratively in order that the reader virtually experiences designed landscapes. Third, visual concept figuration of landscape design is divided into three types. 'Simple visualization of a diagram' is easily embodied through a simple graphic using symbols, comments, images and key words. 'Concept sketch and shape of core idea' is useful to grasp the core of the idea such as physical element, form attribute of space and spatial relation at the initial phase of the concept. 'A collage and montage that create a new shape with a combination of images' are a collection of materials and images that provide a new perspective. These are tools to depict them in a compressed way after recording landscapes phenomenon.

  • Improving the design ability of idea developing and creative problem solving should be started from the primary school. Design education in the primary school should be not education for design but education by design. It helps students can naturally understand the basic concept of design and experience the process of activities. Therefore primary educational circle use the term of 'Design-related activities', or 'Design-Based Education'. It can be applied to variable themes of mathematics, science, music, society as well as Art. On the Basis of these literature review, the traditional design education as a part of the art education is analyzed in two aspects of its contents and behaviors. The contents in design education involve aesthetic·symbolic, useful·functional, and scientific·technological area. And, the basic design behaviors are classified with 'know', 'perceive', 'inquire', and so on. This concept becomes the analytic frame of the present condition of design education in Korean primary school. Through the analysis, it is found that the portion of scientific·technological area in contents and 'inquire' related behaviors are relatively very low. Also, the planning and teaching methods for leading children's opportunity of creative expression are found inadequate. This study proposes the potential capability and the integrative contents of design education in primary school.

  • Citizens'income has been increased along with the trend of rapid changes in society, and the quality of their lives has been improved as well. As much as the degree of increase of quality of life, the number of spectators for performing art events, etc. who desire to fulfill their needs for enjoyment of varied cultural performances have been increasing, and also a large number of spectators enjoys a variety of festivals being held in each provincial area as well as international events: we still remember such frantic rooting shown by citizens during 2002 World Cup drawing attention and interest of entire nation. There are always risks of loss of human lives if accidents occur as there sult of close-packed crowd gathered at the same time. Therefore, it is required to prepare adequate security measures in order to prevent various accidents before hand. It is hoped that this research work would be of help for further efficient and systematic security management for the performing arts centers or public theaters encouraging the event organizer and the private security firm and the Korea Private Security Association to exert great effort and investments in further projects for development of security technology. Also, it is required to build a performance culture to consider audience's safety first from the beginning to the end of the event on the basis of efficient security management. Furthermore, spect at or sare required to recognize the fact that safety in the site for performing arts should be guaranteed for everyone's sake, and, to achieve this, they are obliged to be more cooperative with the event organizer and the private security firm, forming a trinity all together, in order not to have safety threatening situations in the site of performing arts events.

  • Infrastructures such as bridges and tunnels are crucial elements of national economic growth, and sudden collapses may lead to great catastrophes with significant social and economic losses, as well as a loss of lives. Hence, an efficient maintenance technique must be applied to guarantee safety, secure budgets to maintain a certain level of service, and prevent maintenance expenditures from being concentrated in a specific time period. Developed countries have experienced rapid increases in maintenance budgets, and maintenance costs now account for about 40% of the total maintenance budget. The level of service in asset management systems is an essential element for setting management goals and making priority decisions. Therefore, this study uses fuzzy theory to develop a new way to assess the level of service.The assessment model was applied to an actual bridge to evaluate the level of service for users.

An empirical study on the relationship of personal optimistic bias and information security awareness and behavior in the activity of information ethics (정보윤리 활동에서 개인의 낙관적 편견과 정보보안 인식 및 정보보안 행위와의 관련성에 관한 실증 연구)

  • With respect to the factors affecting information security awareness and behavior, the study of the relevance of the concept of optimistic bias is actively used in psychology. In other words, this study examines whether the optimistic bias of individuals affects information security in the field. In this sense, this study attempted to demonstrate the relevance of optimistic bias in information security behavior and awareness. A questionnaire survey was conducted targeting 111 people engaged in domestic private enterprises. The survey results showed that this personalized optimistic bias exists because of empirical factors related to personal security. Optimistic bias affects the security awareness information. The greater the optimistic bias, the lower the awareness and recognition of information security. In other words, optimistic bias affects information security awareness. Reducing the effects of optimistic bias is expected to reduce information security incidents, such as information leakages. However, the variety of information related ethical activities of a company did not have any effect on the information security awareness. Most previous studies have only examined the effect optimistic bias in the field of health. Therefore, this study fills an important gap in research in IT.

The Potential Application of Environmental Psychology and Behavior Studies to Environmental Design (환경심리.행태 연구의 가능성과 한계성)

  • Environmental designers in Korea have shown interests in Environomental Psychology and Behavior Studies (EPBS) since 1970's. However, many designers, who have expected a great deal of contribution from the EPBS, have disappointed due to their overexpectation and misunderstanding on the EPBS. This study intends to analyse the nature of the EPBS and to investigate the potential contribution of the EPBS to the field of environmental design. The EPBS are able to help designers by providing scentific data in each stage of the design process. Further, most design theories and principles are based on the findings of the EPBS. Thus the development of the EPBS has great potential of contribution to the development of design theories arid principles Due to the scientific nature of the EPBS, however, the EPBS have difficulties in supplying scientific data within relatively short period, which make most designers impatient. Designers should understand the scientific nature of the EPBS and be patient in expecting usable outcome from the EPBS. Further, Designers should not expect the EPBS give them design soultion itself.

Study of Rip Current Warning Index Function Varied according to Real-time Observations (실시간 관측정보에 따른 이안류 경보 지수함수 연구)

  • A rip-current warning index function, which is estimated from the likelihood of rip current quantified based on numerical simulations under various sea environments and is varied according to real-time buoy-observations, was studied to help protect against rip current accidents at Haeundae beach. For the quantification, the definition of likelihood of rip current, which proposed by Choi et al. (2011, 2012b), was employed and estimated based on Boussinesq modelling. The distribution of likelihood of rip current was evaluated by using various simulations according to scenarios established based on physical quantities(i.e., wave parameters) of buoy-observations. To index the likelihood of rip current, empirical functions were derived based on the distribution and adjusted to observational environments. In this study, the observations from June to September in 2011 at Haeundae beach were applied to the rip-current index functions, and its applications into the real events found based on CCTV images were presented and investigated. In addition, limitations and improvements of the rip-current index function were discussed.
