Measurement of Relativistic Electron Beam Propagation with Localized Plasma Channel

  • 상대론적 전자빔 발생장치(300kV, 40kA, 60ns)를 통하여 발생하는 전자빔은 진공 중에서 공간전하한계전류값을 갖게 되어 진행이 어렵다. 이런 전자빔의 전파특성을 향상시키기 위하여 여러 가지 방법들이 실험되어졌다. 본 실험실에서 수행한 실험은 전자빔의 진행해나가는 도파관 속에 국부적인 plasma channel을 형성시키고 이에 따른 전자빔의 전파율의 향상을 유도하였다. 이때 형성되는 높은 에너지의 이온빔을 관찰하고 이온 전류밀도에 따른 전자빔의 수송효율사이의 관계를 관찰하였다. 전류밀도의 증가는 여러 가지로 응용 될 수 있다. 자유전자레이저(Free Electron Laser)는 microwave로부터 가시광선 영역을 포함해 X-ray 영역까지의 coherent radiation을 발생시킬 수 있는 개념의 장치이다. 이 장치에서 전자빔의 전류밀도는 출력되는 전자기파의 power와 직접적으로 관계하여 고출력 microwave 발생장치를 구성할 수 있다. 이번 실험에서는 일정한 국부적으로 형성된 plasma에 따른 강렬한 상대론적 전자빔의 전파효율의 향상을 관찰하였다.

  • 본 연구는 상대론적 전자빔(300kV, 20KA, 60ns)과 펄스플라즈마의 발생 및 전파특성에 관한 것으로 세부 내용은 다음과 같다. Sub-Torr로 유지되는 다이오드에서 상대론적 전자빔의 발생이 이루어질 때 전자빔의 펄스너비 및 전류 상승시간을 다이오드 압력을 변인으로 하여 연구하였다. 펄스너비와 압력과의 관계식을 실험적으로 유도하였으며 다이오드 내에서 전자빔과 중성기체와의 충돌에 의한 기체이온화 모델로 설명하였다. 또한 Sub-Torr 도파관에서 상대론적 전자빔의 수송 특성을 연구하였으며 전자빔의 propagation window와 고압에서의 수송효율의 저하 원인을 밝혔다. 그리고 이 영역에서 매우 짧은 펄스 플라즈마의 형태로 형성되는 빔 유도 플라즈마채널의 이온밀도 및 conductivity를 진단하는 새로운 실험적 방법을 확립하였다. 한편 빔 수송효율 증대를 위한 한 방법으로 진공영역에서 지역화된 중성기체를 빔 선두부분에 위치시켜 지역적인 공간전하 중성화를 꾀하는 기법도 시험되었다. 마지막으로 중 출력(1kV, 10kA, 1ms) 규모의 자기플라즈마 동력학 장치를 제작하여 펄스 플라즈마를 발생시키고 그 특성을 조사하였다. 제작된 자기플라즈마 동력학 장치는 현재 기초과학 지원 연구소의 "한빛" 장치에 부착되어 초기 플라즈마 발생용으로 활용되고 있다.로 활용되고 있다.

Performance of OFDM using Beam-switching and Space-Time coding in Wireless Personal Area Network (무선 개인 영역망 환경에서 빔 스위칭과 시공간부호를 적용한 OFDM 전송방식의 성능)

  • In this paper, we consider the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based transmission incoorperating with beam-switching and space-time coding. Specifically, we consider three configurations; (1) the beamforming technique, (2) the spatial diversity technique and (3) their combination and evaluate the performance in wireless personal area network (WPAN) environment. For the beam-forming technique, we consider the beam-switching which is performed at RF front-end with a pre-defined set of beams and for the space-time coding, we consider the Alamauti scheme with antenna selection. For the combined scheme, we divide the antennas used into two group to generate two independent beams and apply the two-antenna Alamauti scheme over the two beams. For these three configurations, performance is evaluated in terms of the SNR gain.

  • Due to the deficit of section of web, the buckling strength of cellular beam become smaller than that of H-beam. In this thesis, we evaluate the buckling strength of web-post through non-linear F.E.M with opening distance-diameter ratio and opening diameter - web thickness ratio as essential variables. And also analyzes this comparing with the standard indicated in BS5950 Part 1.

  • To maximize the storage density in a localized hologram recording method, each hologram should be recorded as close as possible to its neighboring holograms. In this case, the reference beams used to record two adjacent holograms may overlap in spatial multiplexing. Through simulations and experiments, we show that there exists an optimal reference beam size to minimize the overlap for a given shifting distance of the reference beams in spatial multiplexing. Thus the advantages of the localized hologram recording method can be minimally sacrificed while the storage density is increased.

  • The underwater acoustic communication (UAC) is characterized by doubly spread channel. It is included in the time-variant doppler shift and delay-time spreads due to multiple paths. To compensate such distorted signals, various techniques including time-reversal processing, spatial diversity, phase estimator, and equalizer are being applied. In this paper, a spatial filter based on the beamforming is proposed as a method to mitigate such inter-symbol interferences that are generated in time-varying multipath channels. The proposed technique realizes coherent communications by steering the direction of the desired signals and improves the performance of UAC by increasing the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio using the array gain.

  • The main advantage of ESPAR antenna is that ESPAR antenna requires only a single RF chain for reduction of transceiver's hardware complexity, as compared to conventional MIMO system. In conventional MIMO system, each data symbol is mapped to each antenna. But, each data symbol is mapped to each orthogonal basis pattern in ESPAR antenna system. In this paper, we design beamspace MIMO system using ESPAR antenna with single RF chain for MIMO system of low-complexity and low power consumption. And then, we analyze performance of beamspace MIMO according to each PSK modulation. Performance of beamspace MIMO system is similar to performance of conventional MIMO system. As a result of analyzing the performance of beamspace MIMO system using higher-order PSK modulation. we can confirm that performance characteristic of beamspace MIMO system with low complexity and low power consumption is similar to digital communication of signal domain.

  • 본 논문에서는, 다중송수신안테나 직교주파수분할다중화 (MIMO-OFDM) 시스템에서 심볼 기반 빔포밍을 위한 제한 피드백 기법을 고려하였다. 공간적 상관도가 존재하는 다중전달경로 채널에서, 심볼 기반 빔포밍을 위한 제한 피드백 기법과 코드북을 제안하였다. 모의실험 결과를 통해 제안한 기법이 낮은 복잡도를 가짐에도 불구하고 기존의 iterative 알고리즘을 기반으로 하는 심볼 기반 빔포밍을 이용한 제한 피드백 기법보다 우수한 성능을 보임을 확인하였다. 또한, 제안한 코드북이 랜덤 벡터 양자화 코드북보다 우수한 성능을 보임을 확인하였다.

Waveform Simulation of Full-Waveform LIDAR (풀웨이브폼 라이다의 반사파형 시뮬레이션)

  • The LIDAR data can be efficiently utilized for automatic reconstruction of 3D models of objects on the terrain and the terrain itself. In this paper, we attempted to generate simulated waveforms of FW (Full-Waveform) LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging). We performed the geometric modeling of the sensor and objects, and the radiometric modeling of the waveform intensity. First, we compute the origins and directions of the sub-beams by considering the divergence effects of a laser beam. We then searched for the locations at which the sub-beams intersected with the objects, such as ground, buildings and trees. Finally, we generate the individual waveforms of the reflected sub-beams and the waveform of the entire beam by summing the individual ones. With the experimental results, we confirmed the waveforms were reasonably generated, showing the characteristics of the surfaces the beam interacted with.

A study on the target detection method of the continuous-wave active sonar in reverberation based on beamspace-domain multichannel nonnegative matrix factorization (빔공간 다채널 비음수 행렬 분해에 기초한 잔향에서의 지속파 능동 소나 표적 탐지 기법에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, a target detection method based on beamspace-domain multichannel nonnegative matrix factorization is studied when an echo of continuous-wave ping is received from a low-Doppler target in reverberant environment. If the receiver of the continuous-wave active sonar moves, the frequency range of the reverberation is broadened due to the Doppler effect, so the low-Doppler target echo is interfered by the reverberation in this case. The developed algorithm analyzes the multichannel spectrogram of the received signal into frequency bases, time bases, and beamformer gains using the beamspace-domain multichannel nonnnegative matrix factorization, then the algorithm estimates the frequency, time, and bearing of target echo by choosing a proper basis. To analyze the performance of the developed algorithm, simulations were performed in various signal-to-reverberation conditions. The results show that the proposed algorithm can estimate the frequency, time, and bearing, but the performance was degraded in the low signal-to-reverberation condition. It is expected that modifying the selection algorithm of the target echo basis can enhance the performance according to the simulation results.
