Sulfide Chimney from the Cleft Segment, Juan de Fuca Ridge: Mineralogy and Fluid Inclusion (Juan de Fuca 해령 Cleft Segment에서 회수된 황화물 침니: 광물조성 및 유체포유물)

  • In order to elucidate the growth mechanism of sulfide chimney formed as a result of seafloor hydrothermal mineralization, we carried out the mineralogical and fluid inclusion studies on the inactive, sulfide- and silica-rich chimney which has been recovered from a hydrothermal field in the Cleft segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge. According to previous studies, many active and inactive vents are present in the Cleft segment. The sulfide- and silica-rich chimney is composed of amorphous silica, pyrite, sphalerite and wurtzite with minor amounts of chalcopyrite and marcasite. The interior part of the chimney is highly porous and represents a flow channel. Open spaces within chimneys are typically coated with colloform layers of amorphous silica. The FeS content of Zn-sulfides varies widely from 13.9 to 34.3 mole% with Fe-rich core and Fe-poor rims. This variation possibly reflects the change of physicochemical characteristics of hydrothermal fluids. Chemical and mineralogical compositions of the each growth zone are also varied, possibly due to a thermal gradient. Based on the microthermometric measurements of liquid-rich, two-phase inclusions in amorphous silica that was precipitated in the late stage of mineralization, minimum trapping temperatures are estimated to be about 1140 to 145$^{\circ}$C with the salinities between 3.2 and 4.8 wt.% NaCI equiv. Although the actual fluid temperatures of the vent are not available, this study suggests that the lowtemperature conditions were predominant during the mineralization in the hydrothermal field at Cleft segment. Comparing with the previously reported chimney types, the morphology, colloform texture, bulk chemistry, and a characteristic mineral assemblage (pyrite + marcasite + wurtzite + amorphous silica) of this chimney indicate that the chimney have been formed from a relatively low-temperature (<250$^{\circ}$C) hydrothermal fluid that was changed by sluggish fluid flow and conductive cooling.

  • 수직형 FHD증착법을 사용하여 SiO$_{2}$, SiO$_{2}$-P$_{2}$O$_{5}$, SiO$_{2}$P$_{2}$O$_{5}$-B$_{2}$O$_{3}$-GeO$_{2}$계 실리카 유리미립자를 형성하였으며, SEM, ICP-AES, XRD, TGA-DSC을 사용하여 그 특성을 분석하였다. XRD측정을 통해, 미립자 형성시 사용된 화염온도(130$0^{\circ}C$-150$0^{\circ}C$)와 기판온도(-20$0^{\circ}C$)가 SiO$_{2}$-P$_{2}$O$_{5}$계 미립자를 비정질상태로 형성하였으며, SiO$_{2}$P$_{2}$O$_{5}$-B$_{2}$O$_{3}$와 SiO$_{2}$P$_{2}$O$_{5}$-B$_{2}$O$_{3}$-GeO$_{2}$계 미립자에서는 B$_{2}$O$_{3}$, BPO$_{4}$, GeO$_{2}$의 결정성피크들을 관찰하였다. TGA-DSC 열분석을 통해, SiO$_{2}$와 SiO$_{2}$-P$_{2}$O$_{5}$는 온도변화에 따른 질량변화가 없었으며, SiO$_{2}$P$_{2}$O$_{5}$-B$_{2}$O$_{3}$-GeO$_{2}$계의 경우 질량감소를 동반한 유리전이에 따른 분자이완현상 및 결정화나 회복반응을 나타내고 있다. 질량감소는 미립자가 결정상태일때 가속되는 경향을 나타냈으며, DSC열분석을 통해 SiO$_{2}$, SiO$_{2}$-P$_{2}$O$_{5}$, SiO$_{2}$P$_{2}$O$_{5}$-B$_{2}$O$_{3}$-GeO$_{2}$계 유리미립자들의 고밀화가 시작되는 온도를 각각 1224$^{\circ}C$, 1151$^{\circ}C$, 953$^{\circ}C$, 113$0^{\circ}C$에서 관찰하였다.

  • 활성화 반응성 증착법으로 비저항 1.7*$10^{-3}$-8.0*$10^{-3}$ohm.cm, 전하운반자 농도 3.4*$10^{19}$-2.8*$10^{20}$$cm^{-3}$, 이동도 12-23$cm^{2}$/V.s, 금지대역 폭 3.35eV인 In/sib 2/ $O_{3}$박막을 KBr과 실리카 기판에 성장시켰다. 광투과율은 가시광선 영역에서 80% 이상을 나타냈으며 적외선 영역에서도 양호한 특성을 나타냈다. 박막성장시는 비정질 상태였으나 150.deg.C 이상에서 열처리했을 때 결정화현상이 관찰되었다.

Preparation of ZnO Thin Films with UV Emission by Spin Coating and Low-temperature Heat-treatment (스핀코팅 및 저온열처리에 의한 자외선 발광특성을 갖는 산화아연 박막의 제조)

  • Purpose: This research is that prepare amorphous or crystalline ZnO thin films with pure strong UV emission on soda-lime-silica glass (SLSG) substrates by low-temperature annealing. Methods: Growth characteristic and optical properties of the amorphous or nano-crystalline ZnO thin films prepared on soda - lime - silica glass substrates by chemical solution deposition at 100, 150, 200, 250 and $300^{\circ}C$ were investigated using X-ray diffraction analysis, ultraviolet - visible - near infrared spectrophotometer, and photoluminescence. Results: The films exhibited an amorphous pattern even when finally annealed at $100^{\circ}C{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ for 60 min, while crystalline ZnO was obtained by prefiring at 250 and $300^{\circ}C$. The photoluminescence spectrum of amorphous ZnO films shows a strong NBE emission, while the visible emission is nearly quenched. Conclusions: These results indicate it should be possible to cheaply and easily fabricate ZnO-based optoelectronic devices at low temperature, below $200^{\circ}C$, in the future.

  • Sintered bodies were prepared from ${\alpha} - Al_2O_3/SiO_2$ composite powders which each alumina particles were surrounded by silica particles and investigated the mullitization behavior on the process of reaction - sintering. Mullitized reaction was started by formation of amorphous aluminosilicate inter - layer and proceeded by diffusion of alumina through this inter-layer. The growth of mullite was happened along the surface of alumina and controlled by the rate of diffusion.

Synthesis and Characterization of Quartz Nanocrystals (석영 나노 결정의 합성과 특성)

  • We report the synthesis and characterization of quartz nanocrystals (NCs). Quartz NCs were synthesized from the dissolution of amorphous silica nanoparticle precursors under the mild hydrothermal condition of ~250 ℃ and autogenic pressure. It was confirmed that the average size of the nanostructure with a highly crystalline phase of α-quartz can be tuned in a relatively narrow range from 407.5 to 826.2 nm with respect to the reaction time. α-Quartz NCs have potential uses for technological applications in optoelectronics, sensing, and rechargeable battery devices.

Transports of Ferrihydrite Colloids in Packed Quartz Sand Media (석영모래 속에서의 Ferrihydrite 콜로이드 이동)

  • Transports of heterogeneously charged particles were investigated based on column experiments. Synthesized mono-dispersed ferrihydrite (${\sim}100nm$) and amorphous $SiO_2\;({\sim}40nm\;and\;{\sim}80nm)$ particles, of which surfaces are oppositely charged under pH < 9.0 (ferrihydrite, positive; amorphous silica, negative), were used. $177{\sim}250{\mu}m$ quartz sand was used as a stationary matrix. The results show that even favorable particles (i.e., ferrihydrite) can show a conservative transport through the oppositely charged media (i.e., quartz) when they coexist with humic acid or with much greater number of oppositely charged particles. These results imply that transports of both negatively and positively charged contaminants may be possible at the same time under a condition of heterogeneous colloidal system.

  • Aluminum induced crystallization of amorphous silicon was attempted by the aluminum substrate. To avoid the layer exchange between silicon and aluminum layer, Ni layer was deposited between these two layers by sputtering. To obtain the bigger grain of the crystalline silicon, wet blasted silica layer was employed as windows between the nickel and a-Si layer. Ni obtained after the annealing treatment at $520^{\circ}C$ was found to be a promising material for the diffusion barrier between silicon and aluminum. One way to obtain bigger grain of crystalline silicon layer applicable to solar cell of higher performance was envisioned in this investigation.

  • Using rice husks pulverized by rotating knife cutter, the raw rice husk powder was solution treated by nitric and hydrochloric acids in order to separate phytolith from organic constituents. Because of the strong resistance of organic components of rice husk to acids, the raw powder had to be boiled in concentrated acids up to 300 min. By boiling in nitric acid for 60~120 min, all organic components were resolved while amorphous silica Powder of about 20 nm in size and of higher than 99.8% in purity was left behind. Inferior to the nitric acid, hydrochloric acid was not able to resolve organic component completely leaving unresolved matter of about 40% by weight even after 300 min of boiling. From the acid treatments and impurity analyses, it is considered that most of metallic elements in rice husks are combined to organic components that are easily soluble to acids.

  • Now-a-days, a manhole adopted since the late 1990s and produced using the polymer concrete has widely used due to the various benefits. While entering the High oil prices times, however, and with the price increase of the petrochemical materials, the cost of manufacture of polymer concrete was elevated and the resulting polymer concrete's weakness is being put on. Accordingly, the development of economic cement concrete manholes, which can replace the outstanding bending strength of manhole made of high-price polymer concrete, has been required. In this study, based on the cement technology of fast hardening armorphous calcium aluminate (ACA), by minimizing the amount of cement using the industrial byproducts, to develop the eco-friendly high-toughness concrete manhole, which can reduce $CO_2$ reduction, was intended. As the results, the cement concrete manhole, which economic, eco-friend, and meeting the performance requirements, was developed.
