To understand seasonal changes it is necessary to understand the relationship between celestial bodies in a three-dimensional space, and to this end, modeling activities in which students directly construct, use, evaluate, and modify three-dimensional models are important. In this study, the process of elementary school students using globes and light bulbs to model Earth's motion in a three-dimensional space as a cause of seasonal changes was analyzed. Seventeen sixth graders participated in the modeling process. After exploring phenomena and concepts related to seasonal change, students constructed models using globes and bulbs and used them to explain seasonal changes. Video data recording students' modeling process, students' activity sheets, and transcripts of post-interview were used as research data, and data triangulation was conducted. The modeling level analysis framework was also developed based on previous studies. In particular, the framework was developed in detail in this study in consideration of the concept of Earth's motion as well as understanding model and implementing modeling. In the final analysis framework, the 3D modeling level was classified from level 1 to level 3, and student performance that may appear at each level was specified. As a result of the study, there were two main levels of modeling using globes for elementary school students to explain seasonal changes. The rotation and tilt of the axis of rotation and revolution of the earth were considered but the level at which empirical evidence was not used (level 2), the level at which empirical evidence was used to explain seasonal chages (level 3). However, even when students use empirical evidence, it did not lead to the construction of a scientific model. In this study, the cause was explored in relation to the characteristics of the tool used for modeling.
In this study, we analyzed pre-service teachers' levels of pedagogical reasoning while watching video clips of elementary school students' discussions of their conceptions of solution and dissolution. 81 pre-service teachers participated in the study. It was found that many pre-service teachers had scientific conceptions, and pre-service teachers who had non-scientific conceptions showed misconceptions similar to those of elementary school students. In both conceptions, pre-service teachers partially or comprehensively interpreted the students' misconceptions with reference to the evidence. However, the rates of pre-service teachers who misinterpreted or simply restated the students' utterances were quite high. Many pre-service teachers suggested only one factor related to levels of reasoning about causes of misconceptions, and most suggested factors were related to the student factor. The level of reasoning about instructional decisions differed according to dissolution and solution conceptions. Actions linked to students' thinking were more closely related to students' specific thinking than to their generic thinking, and among these, student-centered action was seen. From the above results, we sought ways of improving pre-service teachers' pedagogical reasoning.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an occupational therapy program on the school readiness, focusing on adaptation skills and daily life skills, in children with developmental delays. Methods : The study involved a boy with developmental delay, aged 5 years and 8 months. The program was conducted twice a week, with a total of 8 sessions spread over 4 weeks. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) was employed, targeting class preparation and use of the toilet. Pre-post tests and follow-up evaluations were carried out to compare changes. Data analysis involved video recordings of the subject's performance. Results : The COPM results indicated improvements in both the performance and satisfaction levels for class preparation and toilet use. Processing skills showed seven improvements in class preparation and eight improvements in toilet use during post-testing. Activity performance observations further confirmed improvements in both class preparation and toilet use during post-test and follow-up evaluations. Conclusion : Occupational therapy improves school readiness (adaptation skill, daily living activity skill) for children with developmental delays, and has a positive effect on overall school readiness.

The purpose of this study was to investigate 6th grade pupil's thoughts during classification activities. Two suitable tools in classification activity achievement were developed to achieve this purpose. The first was an artificial stimulus card in which the attribute was prominent; and the other a natural stimulus card in which the attribute was less prominent. Participants of the study were 8 6th grade pupils from D elementary school in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Data were collected from interviews with the pupils, the pupil's recordings of classification, the investigator's observation of pupil's actions, and video recordings of the pupil's subject classification process. Results found in this study were as following. First, when doing classification 6th grade pupils considered attribute observation, attribute estimation, preliminary inspection, criteria selection, and sample identification. Second, 6th grade pupil classification thought process was found to be repetitive, passing through the steps of attribute observation, attribute estimation, preliminary inspection, criteria selection, and lastly, sample identification. Third, 6th grade pupils took advantage of cognitive economic efficiency. Study findings also revealed guidance for the teaching and learning of scientific classification. First, once teachers understand the classification thought process of students, more effective classification guidance will be possible. Second, it is necessary that guidance fit each step of the classification thought process.

The purpose of this study was to explore the manners in which models are used in secondary science classrooms. A total of thirteen video-recordings of science lessons dealing with the domains of atmospheric and oceanic earth sciences and their verbatim transcripts were analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Interviews with three inservice science teachers were also conducted. Six interrelated assertions were generated as the result of the study: 1) The most frequently used models in secondary earth science classrooms include two-dimensional pictorial, symbolic, iconic, and diagrammatic ones; 2) Science teachers employ models as a mode of representation to make the subject matter available to students; 3) In earth science classrooms, teachers use typical forms of models in intensive manners; 4) Students themselves deal with models on a few occasions, but they just follow similar procedures with the same models; 5) Teachers talk rarely about the nature of scientific models and provide few opportunities for students to think about it; and, 6) Teachers in practice think that the value of using models should be appraised in consideration of the pedagogical intentions of the teacher. Implications for science education and science education research were discussed.
This study examines primarily the effects of perceived risk and scarcity massage on consumers in CATV homeshopping. For consumers, the perceived risk is the cause of delaying purchase decision in CATV Homeshopping while scarcity message in the Ad facilitate purchasing intention in the CATV homeshopping. And another important characteristic of consumer which exerts impact on the response of consumer to the Ad and the product is the frequency of purchasing experience. Thus the purpose of this study is to test the effect of 3 factors on consumer's response to homeshopping Ad and product: one is perceived risk, another is scarcity message and the third is consumer's difference in purchasing. And these are defined as independent variables. The responses of the consumer, the dependent variables of this test are measured in three dimensions; 1) the purchasing intention of the product, 2) the attitude toward the Ad, and 3) the attitude toward product of the consumer. 110 housewives are sampled and assigned to 4 experimental groups. All the groups first watched a video-taped homeshopping Ad messages, and then filled up their responses on the administered questionnaire. The results of this study shows as follows: 1) Perceived risk has negative effect to consumer response. 2) Scarcity message has positive effect to consumers response. 3) But especially perceived risk has negative effect to high frequency purchasing experience group. 4) Scarcity message has also negative effect to high frequency purchasing experience group. 5) The interaction effect of perceived risk and scarcity message is most prominent to the consumers of high frequent purchasing experience.

The purpose of this study is to observe the developmental Process of interaction and attitude of children through instruction for “making fabric doll”. Based on the theory of “Waldorf Education”, instruction of 8 hours for 3 weeks exercised against 40 children(18 boys, 22 girls) of 6th grade, especially focused two group(10 children), in K elementary school in Chunchoen. The results of the study by qualitative research method through observing, recording, interpretation are as follows 1. The changes in interaction among children were observed in increase of quantity and quality of conversation among children, of reliability and dependence among children, of intimacy and cooperation among children, and of intimacy between teacher and children. 2. The changes in the attitude toward instruction were observed in increase of confidence and satisfaction, of active and attentive attitude to instruction via more interest about own fabric doll, of positive attitude through attachment to the doll. Therefore, the instruction of “making fabric doll” based on “Waldorf Education” seems to be efficient to child development and Practical Arts Education.

The purpose of this study was to analyze scientific thinking types and processes generated in inductive inquiry by college students. Subjects were three college student. Three inductive tasks were developed: Caminalcules set I which is a task consisted of 6 imaginary animals, a potato task which is a task about the interaction between juiced potato and $H_2O_2$, and Caminalcules set 2. Subjects' thinking types and processes were investigated through thinking-aloud method and interview. Subjects' performances were recorded on videotapes and analyzed. Subjects have shown 5 types of inductive thinking in the first task; observing, discovering commonness, discovering pattern, classifying, discovering hierarchy. The processes of inductive thinking shown by students are followed; observing $\rightarrow$discovering commonness $\rightarrow$classifying $\rightarrow$discovering pattern $\rightarrow$discovering hierachy. The subtypes of inductive thinking on observing were investigated by the analysis of subjects' performance on the second task. In analysis of protocol, student' thinking types on observing have been classified as simple observing and operational observing. Operational observing has been categorized conjectural observing and predictive observing. The subtypes of inductive thinking on classification and hierarchy were investigated by the analysis of subjects' performance on the third task. In analysis of protocol, students' thinking types on classification have been searching criteria for classifying and selecting criteria for classifying. Subtypes of discovering hierarchy have been classifying groups and hierarchical ordering by students. Processes of classifying groups proceeded from searching criteria for classifying to selecting criteria for classifying.
Purpose : Forward pulmonary blood flow may be absent in some neonates with Ebstein's anomaly by anatomical or functional pulmonary atresia in association with the elevated pulmonary vascular resistance, patent ductus arteriosus and tricuspid regurgitation. We reviewed the presentation and outcomes of symptomatic neonates with Ebstein's anomaly focusing on the pulmonary atresia. Methods : Clinical presentation and outcome of 15 symptomatic neonates with Ebstein's anomaly seen at Asan medical center from 1998 to 2004 were reviewed. Results : Ten(67%) of 15 patients showed no forward pulmonary blood flow and 6 of them had functional pulmonary atresia. $O_2$ saturation and pH were lower and cardiothoracic(CT) ratio in chest radiography was more increased in the patients with pulmonary atresia than in the patients without pulmonary atresia(P<0.05). pH and CT ratio were not different between the anatomical and functional pulmonary atresia group, but $O_2$ saturation was lower in functional atresia group(P<0.05). 13 patients(87%) were managed with $PGE_1$. 4 of 6 patients with functional pulmonary atresia were treated with inhaled nitric oxide. Surgery was performed in 1 of 5 patients without pulmonary atresia and in 8 of 10 patients with pulmonary atresia during follow-up period(mean 37 months). 3 patients(20%) died and none of patients without pulmonary atresia died. Conclusion : We found that most symptomatic neonates with Ebstein's anomaly had functional or anatomical pulmonary atresia. The neonates with Ebstein's anomaly who had no forward pulmonary blood flow were more symptomatic and needed surgery earlier. Further studies will be needed to distinguish effectively functional and anatomical pulmonary atresia and to manage appropriately neonates with functional atresia.

Purpose : To understand morphologic and hemodynamic variations in patients with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum(PA/IVS), and to decide the best treatment modalities, we measured right ventricular volume, inflow, and outflow valvular annulus size in these patients and compared them with those of normal newborns. Methods : Eight patients with PA/IVS diagnosed by echocardiography from January to December 2001 were enrolled in this study. Among the total eight patients, five were male and three were female. The mean age of patients was 6.9 days(1-34 days), and the mean body weight was 3,343 gm (2,970-4,000 gm). Ten fullterm newborn infants with sepsis or hyperbilirubinemia without heart disease were enrolled as a control group. Echocardiographic and Doppler studies using Acuson Aspen (7Mh probe) were recorded on super-VHS videotape and later on, with review mode. We measured volumes of right and left ventricles, aortic, pulmonic, mitral and tricuspid valvular annulus sizes using an installed program, and then these parameters were compared with those of the control group. Results : Mean Z-value of tricuspid valvular annulus in PA/IVS was $-3.69{\pm}2.80$(-8.4--0.45), and tricuspid/mitral valvular annulus size ratio $0.68{\pm}0.15$(0.43--0.84). The more the tricuspid/mitral valvular annulus size ratio, the more Z-value of tricuspid valvular annulus(P=0.003, r=0.885). Those patients who underwent pulmonary valvuloplasty(balloon or surgical) had a tendency toward larger volume of the right ventricle, more Z-value of pulmonic and tricuspid valvular annulus, and more tricuspid/mitral valvular annulus size ratio than those patients who underwent a shunt operation. Conclusion : Compared to a measurement of the volume of the right ventricle, measurements of tricuspid/mitral valvular annulus size ratio and Z-value of tricuspid valvular annulus may be easier and better parameters to decide the treatment method and to predict prognosis in PA/IVS patients.
