  • In these days, construction activities have caused civil petitions associated with vibration-induced damages or nuisances. Therefore, it is strongly needed to develop a remedial technique to mitigate unfavorable effects. The objective of this experimental research is to investigate material and structural dynamic characteristics of vibration-controlled concretes which have been proportionally mixed with various vibration reducing material, such as latex, rubber powder, plastic resin, polystyrofoams and etc. Normal and high strength concrete specimens are also prepared for corresponding comparison. As part of the recycling research for obsolete rubber and plastic materials, 32 concrete cylinders and 10 concrete flexural beams have been made for material and structural dynamic properties, respectively. In accordance with the resonance test on concrete cylinders, it can be concluded that concrete with vibration-reducing material have relatively larger material damping ration than normal or high strength concrete. Styrofoam is determined to be very effective vibration-reducing mixtures. From the vibration test on 10 concrete flexural beams, meamwhile, of importance observations was that material damping ratio is very smaller than structural damping ratio of corresponding specimen. But further vibration test on more flexural beams should be strongly needed by varying support conditions.

  • The one-time password system solves the problem concerning password reuse caused by the repeated utilization of an identical password. The password reuse problem occurs due to the cyclic repetition at the time of password creation, and authentication failure can occur due to time deviation or non-synchronization of the number of authentication. In this study, the password is created asynchronously and exchanged with the user, who then signs using a digital signature in exchange for the password and a valid verification is requested along with the certificate to ensure non-repudiation. Besides this, a verification system for one-time password is proposed and designed to improve security by utilizing the validity verification that is divided into certificate verification and password verification. Comparative analysis shows that the mechanism proposed in this study is better than the existing methods in terms of replay attack, non-repudiation and synchronization failure.

  • An experiment and simulation were performed for hydrogen separation of mixtures by PSA (pressure swing adsorption) process on activated carbon. The binary ($H_2/Ar$; 80%/ 20%) and ternary ($H_2/Ar/CH_4$; 60%/ 20%/ 20%) mixtures were used to study the effects of feed composition. The cyclic performances such as purity, recovery, and productivity of 2bed-6step PSA process were experimentally and theoretically compared under non-isothermal and non-adiabatic conditions. The develped process produced the hydrogen with 99% purity and 75% recovery from both processes. Therefore, optimal separation condition was referred multicomponent gas mixtures.

  • Laterally self-aligned InGaAs/GaAs quantum-dots (QDs) have been fabricated by using a multilayer stacking technique. For the growth optimization, we vary the number of stacks and the growth temperature in the ranges of 1-15 periods and $500-540^{\circ}C$. respectively, Atomic force microscope (AFM) images and photoluminescence (PL) spectra reveal that the lateral alignment of QDs is enhanced in extended length by an increased stack period, but severely degrades into film-like wires above a critical growth temperature. The morphological and the photoluminescence characteristics of laterally self-aligned InGaAs QDs have been analyzed through mutual comparisons among four samples with different parameters. An anisotropic arrangement develops with increasing number of stacks, and high-temperature capping allows isolated QDs to be spontaneously organized into a one-dimensionally aligned chain-like shape over a few ${\mu}m$, Moreover, the migration time allowed by growth interruption plays an additional important role in the chain arrangement of QDs. The QD chains capped at high temperature exhibit blue shifts in the emission energy, which may be attributed to a slight outdiffusion of In from the InGaAs QDs.

  • This paper deals with the local scour around a pipeline exposed to combined waves and current in the shallow water zone. To investigate the characteristics of the scour around a pipeline on the sea bed, experiments were performed according to the various pipe diameters, wave periods, wave heights, and current velocities. Wave generator and current generator were used for the experiments. Two current directions were used ; co-direction and counter direction to the waves. With the experimental results, the correlations between the scour depths and non-dimensional parameters such as Keulegan-Carpenter number(KC), Froude number(Fr), Ursell number(Ur) and velocity ratio were analysed. The relative scour depths were found obviously to be dominated by the wave component when the velocity ratio function approaches zero and those are gorverned by the current component when the velocity ratio approaches unity. Velocity ratio function was approved to be a proper parameter which is able to express the change of the scour in the combined wave and current zone. Also considering the orbital velocity and the current velocity into Fr numer and KC number respectively, scour depths show more favorable correlationship with the parameters.
