  • The study was conducted to analyze the extent of students' creativity through the use of scaffolding composed of different kinds of experience in making insights on problem solving and to investigate the function of a new scaffolding type which is not used in accomplishing a phase of activity but in having an insight. The students' achievements in problem solving given the scaffolding for on-site experience were compared with those given the scaffolding using stories. Also, the extent of creativity of the first- and sixth- grade students using the two types of scaffolding were investigated as they carried out picture completion task from TTCT. The results of the study showed that the control groups not given the scaffolding in post-test did not advance in creativity but experimental groups given the scaffolding showed improvement in some subordinate elements after scaffolding. Moreover, scaffolding using stories were more effective in enhancing the students' creativity than the scaffolding using on-site experience.

  • The purpose of this study is an empirical case study that focuses on bring about changes in clients through narrative therapy using scaffolding. Through this, the purpose was to find the preferred values and hopes of the future among the stories that the client's has lived in. As the research method, we proceed through unstructured interview and loose structures in qualitative research. On this premise, the counselor did not diagnose or explain the 'decentralized but influential' attitudes and problem. And there was no order in the conversation, and I didn't decide in advance how to react to it before the client made any expressions. This study has the following significance on a practical and academic level: First of all, counseling through scaffolding further enrich the curiosity, temperament, and wishes of the client. Second, the scaffolding provides a concrete picture of the relationship between a counselor and a client in narrative therapy. Third, the scaffolding made in therapeutic dialogue presents a 'learning tasks'. Fourth, counseling through scaffolding has an active meaning that it can develop the higher mental function of clients in charge. Finally, we presented an application of narrative therapy in Vygotsky's theory through analysis of empirical cases. Based on this information, this study did not simply intend to position the client as a research object in narrative therapy. It is meaningful that they have identified the factors necessary to become the subject of narrative therapy and the role of the counselor in the process. In addition, this study has implications in that it contributed to the expansion and substantialization of the research scope of narrative therapy in that it utilized the concept of scaffolding, which has not received much attention in the domestic research.

  • This paper is based on the effects of Zone of Proximal Development and scaffolding theory of social constructivist, Russian psychologist Vygotsky. He insisted that a social interaction play a fundamental role in the development of cognition. This study is to examine the efficient of the scaffolding types in Math class. The ZPD is the distance between a student's ability to perform a task under adult guidances or with peer collaboration and the student's ability solving the problem independently. To conduct the research was grouped into an experimental first grader five students in H high school in Y county. After class, students were questioned through Semi-structured interviews. The results of this study are below. First, Students were satisfied with the class mixed micro-scaffolding types and Macro-scaffolding types and improved their math thinking ability and the ways of solving problems. Second, The results of the class showed that students' ability to perform a task was transferred to the higher level through the help of a teacher or peers. Students could have more time to listen to peers' opinions and to say their own thoughts freely than they were under the lecture method instruction. Third, Students were interested in math through the experimental class. That's because the appropriate help of the scaffolding type, a cooperate study, relative with real life, using an engineering tools. They made a change of perception.

  • The non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) is a method for analyzing the relation among objects by mapping them onto the Euclidean space. The nMDS is useful when it is difficult to use the concept of distance between pairs of objects due to non-metric dissimilarities between objects. The nMDS can be regarded as an optimization problem in which there are many local optima. Since the conventional nMDS algorithm utilizes the steepest descent method, it has a drawback in that the method can hardly find a better solution once it falls into a local optimum. To remedy this problem, in this paper, we applied the simulated annealing to the nMDS and proposed a new optimization algorithm which could search for a global optimum more effectively. We examined the algorithm using benchmarking problems and found that improvement rate of the proposed algorithm against the conventional algorithm ranged from 0.7% to 3.2%. In addition, the statistical hypothesis test also showed that the proposed algorithm outperformed the conventional one.

  • This study examined the effects of Literature-based Mathematical Activities using scaffolding (LMS) on the mathematical achievement, interest, and vocabulary of day care children. The experimental group of 15 boys and 15 girls was exposed to both literature and teacher's scaffolding while the comparison group of 14boys and 16 girls had traditional mathematics curriculum. The experiment was carried out for 8 weeks. ANCOVA and T-test were employed for a statistical analysis. The results revealed statistically significant differences in mathematical achievement, interest, and vocabulary between an experimental and control groups. We can conclude, therefore, that LMS is more effective in developing children's mathematical thinking abilities than a traditional mathematical curriculum.

  • Amphibian population declines globally. Aquatic contamination by organic pollutants including endocrine disrupters has been suspected to the one of the reason for distinction of amphibia which has obligate aquatic life style during larval period. Amphibians have been widely accepted as animal model for the study of endocrine disruption in aquatic ecosystem at molecular as well as individual levels. There are increasing need for toxicological data in amphibians at multiple endpoints for management of contamination and development of safety guideline for important EDs in aquatic media. Alkylphenols have been widely used in agricultural, industrial, and housekeeping activities, contaminating the aquatic media and evoking endocrine disruption in aquatic animals. In this review, we summarized data concerning the endocrine disruption by alkylphenol organic pollutants on amphibians according to route, concentration, terms, and developmental stage of exposure together with mechanism of endocrine disruption.
