Design and Implementation of a Multi-level Simulation Environment for WSN: Interoperation between an FPGA-based Sensor Node and a NS3 (FPGA 기반 센서 노드와 NS3 연동을 통한 다층 무선 센서 네트워크 모의 환경 설계 및 구현)

  • Wireless sensor network (WSN) technology has been implemented using commercial off-the-shelf microcontrollers (MCUs), In this paper, we propose a simulation environment to realize the physical evaluation of FPGA-based node by considering vertically cross-layered WSN in terms of physical node device and network interconnection perspective. The proposed simulation framework emulates the physical FPGA-based sensor nodes to interoperate with the NS3 through the runtime infrastructure (RTI). For the emulation and interoperation of FPGA-based nodes, we extend a vendor-providing FPGA design tool from the host computer and a script to execute the interoperation procedures. The standalone NS-3 is also revised to perform interoperation through the RTI. To resolve the different time-advance mechanisms between the FPGA emulation and event-driven NS3 simulation, the pre-simulation technique is applied to the proposed environment. The proposed environment is applied to IEEE 802.15.4-based low-rate, wireless personal area network communication.

A case study on the application of new hand splint using 3D printing (3D 프린팅을 사용해 제작한 새로운 손 보조기 적용 사례연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a new designed splint on the hand function. A new design splint that enlarges the area between thumb and index finger was manufactured using 3D printing. After wearing a new splint the patient was possible to open thumb and hold a small object. She showed improvement in overall hand function and could move eight blocks in box and block test. But grasping a cup without a handle has become more difficult than before. Also there is a disadvantage that it could not be fixed by water. This study is meaningful in that it is the first splint application study using 3D printing. In the future, we expect that various patient-specific splints will be developed through 3D printing in the field of occupational therapy.

  • This study is to find ways to self-produce energy even in buildings through the system of trees that grow by themselves focused on literatures and case studies. It is divided into the structure, circulation and reaction system of tree. 1) In the structural system, the tree is divided into the shoot and root system, and maintains rigidity with the cell membranes. The wind resistance caused by the trunk and crown can be applied to the seismic structure principle of building, and the role of platelike buttresses of lateral roots can be applied to the horizontal truss and suspension bridge. 2) In the circulation system, the transpiration action through the fine stomata of the leaves can be a very effective cooling means because a large amount of heat is released and this method can be directly introduced into the cooling of buildings. 3) In the responsive system, the response system according to environmental changes that can be read from the leaves and flowers of trees can be applied to the roof and exterior design of buildings through the use of new sensing technologies and materials.

A File System for User Special Functions using Speed-based Prefetch in Embedded Multimedia Systems (임베디드 멀티미디어 재생기에서 속도기반 미리읽기를 이용한 사용자기능 지원 파일시스템)

  • Portable multimedia players have some different properties compared to general multimedia file server. Some of those properties are single user ownership, relatively low hardware performance, I/O burst by user special functions, and short software development cycles. Though suitable for processing multiple user requests at a time, the general multimedia file systems are not efficient for special user functions such as fast forwards/backwards. Soml' methods has been proposed to improve the performance and functionality, which the application programs give prediction hints to the file system. Unfortunately, they require the modification of all applications and recompilation. In this paper, we present a file system that efficiently supports user special functions in embedded multimedia systems using file block allocation, buffer-cache, and prefetch. A prefetch algorithm, SPRA (SPeed-based PRefetch Algorithm) predicts the next block using I/O patterns instead of hints from applications and it is resident in the file system, so doesn't affect application development process. From the experimental file system implementation and comparison with Linux readahead-based algorithms, the proposed system shows $4.29%{\sim}52.63%$ turnaround time and 1.01 to 3,09 times throughput in average.

Cross Diamond Search Using Motion Direction Biased Characteristics (움직임 방향 치우침 특성을 이용한 십자형 다이아몬드 탐색)

  • In this paper, we design directional search pattern using motion direction biased characteristics of MVP distribution, and proposes a direction applied cross diamond search method that adaptively change search pattern according to moving direction of search point. Proposed method predict motion vectors from neighbor macro blocks, and define initial motion direction by using predicted motion vectors. It improve search efficiency by using alternately proposed search pattern according to motion direction of BMP in search process. The simulation results show that proposed method is able to fast motion estimation compared with conventional cross diamond search, according as it reduce computational complexity that is required of motion estimation with $0.43%{\sim}1.76%$.

Efficient Operator Design Using Variable Groups (변수그룹을 이용한 효율적인 연산기 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a partial product addition method using variable groups in the design of operators such as multipliers and digital filters. By this method, full adders can be replaced with simple logic circuits. To show the efficiency of the proposed method, we applied the method to the design of squarers and precomputer blocks of FIR filters. In case of 7 bit and 8 bit squarers, it is shown that by the proposed method, area, power and delay time can be reduced up to {22.1%, 20.1%, 14%} and {24.7%, 24.4%, 6.7%}, respectively, compared with the conventional method. The proposed FIR precomputer circuit leads to up to {63.6%, 34.4%, 9.8%} reduction in area, power consumption and propagation delay compared with previous method.

  • High reliability is the important parameter on designing satellite system and it is also important to design hish speed data processing unit. To make high speed satellite processing unit, it is needed to utilize space processor, high speed data interface technology, mass memory control technology and data protection technology under space radiation environment.

  • We propose a method to connect partial image in whole image to partial image in whole image of other internet site. For this study, we have developed four partial image generation methods and retrieval methods. A method of 'image segmentation' that cuts out only partial images that want to provide information from the whole image, a method of 'creating an image block' that finds outermost points of a cut-out partial image, a method of 'Stamp transformation of outer points', which connects outer points and registers them as the most similar image stamp, and a retrieval method that connects image stamps with other image stamps are developed. We suggested a image search UI that can use image stamps in various ways.

A Study on the Planting Design for the Renewal of Urban Neighborhood Park - In Case of Okgu Neighborhood Park, Siheung, Gyeonggi-do, Korea - (도시근린공원 리뉴얼을 위한 식재디자인 연구 - 경기도 시흥시 옥구공원을 대상으로 -)

  • This paper aims to identify planting design for the renewal of Okgu Park, located in Siheung, Gyeonggi-do. I designate planting concept fit spatial functions and also suggest planting designs that are proper for a growth environment. The spatial functions of the research site are divided on the basis of the park facilities, its surroundings, and usage. To understand the planting concept, this paper looks into the distribution of plant species and the precise planting structure. To understand the planting concept and the current usage of shade space in the park, I examine the distribution of plant species and the precise planting structure. There are 48 kinds of plants, with Zoysia japonica area (28.84%), Prunus yedoensis (8.0%), Pinus thunbergii (6.73%) and Zelkova serrata (6.38%) taking up the majority. 27 places were chosen for researching the precise planting structure. The research shows that the average green coverage ratio is 38.14% and the average green capacity coefficient is $0.72m^3/m^2$. The growth defective rate of trees in the shade areas is estimated by averaging the classified growth conditions of individual trees per block of shade areas. Areas with an inferior environment for growth and low spatial usage in Okgu Park are selected as subjects for planting design. After comparing the spatial functions with planting concepts and analyzing the growth of plants, I identify $36,236m^2$ areas with inferior growth condition. I also examine structures and the surrounding areas to find areas that require urgent planting improvement, specifically identifying landscape space and shade space around the fountain and the buffer space nearby the North gate. I rearrange spatial functions in the selected areas to devise a planting design considering the existing vegetation, layer structure, and its usage. I set the planting concept and direction to improve the landscape of the selected areas through implementing a planting design so the park users can be satisfied with each space.

A Study for Efficient Methods of System Calibration between Optical and Range Sensors by Using Simulation (시뮬레이션을 통한 광학 및 레인지 센서 간의 효율적인 시스템 캘리브레이션 설계)

  • The study planned to suggest the efficient methods of system calibration between the range and optical sensors. The simulation was performed by considering i) design of test-bed, ii) mathematical methods of system calibration and iii) locations of the sensors. The test-bed was designed by considering specifications of the range and optical sensors. Also, the error levels of each sensor were considered in the process of simulation with dataset, which was generated under these predetermined conditions. The system calibration was carried out by using the simulated dataset in two different approaches, which are single photo resection and bundle adjustment. The results from the simulation determined that the bundle adjustment method is more efficient than the single photo resection in the system calibration between range and optical sensors. For the better results, we have used the data, obtained in various locations. In a conclusion, the most efficient case was in sequence of i) the bundle adjustment with ii) the simulated dataset, which were obtained between 2m to 4m away from the test-bed.
