Source Apportionment and Chemical Characteristics of Atmospheric PM2.5 in an Agricultural Area of Korea (농촌지역 대기 중 PM2.5의 화학적 특성과 오염원 정량 평가)

  • In this study, chemical characteristics of $PM_{2.5}$ samples collected in an agricultural area in Nonsan of Korea were investigated focusing on of black carbon, 3 inorganic ions and 22 trace elements. It was found that the relative error and relative standard deviation of many trace elements fell below 10%, which indicates good analytical accuracy and precision. The mean values of $PM_{2.5}$ in an agricultural area were exceeded by new Korean air quality standard of March 2018. The concentration of $PM_{2.5}$ was well correlated with those of black carbon and ions. The concentrations of trace elements were in a wide range of seven orders of a magnitude. Based on these $PM_{2.5}$ data sets, a total of 6 sources were identified using PMF (Positive Matrix Factorization; secondary aerosol (34.4%), soil/road dust (20.1%), biomass burning (16.9%), incineration/fuel combustion (13.2%), vehicle exhaust(12.2%), sea-salt (3.17%). Results of our study indicate that it is very important to control illegal burning activities in agricultural area.

A Study on the User Experience according to the Method and Detail of Recommendation Agent's Explanation Facilities (추천 에이전트의 설명 방식과 상세도에 따른 사용자 경험 차이에 관한 연구)

  • As the use of recommended agents has become more active, the "Explain Facilities" is drawing attention as a way to solve the black-box problem that could not explain internal logic to users. This study wants to look at how the description Method and Detail affects to user experience. The Explanation method was divided into 'why the agent did a particular action' and 'why not do a particular action' and the detail condition were divided into 'high or low'. Studies have found that 'why method' have a positive effect on users' transparency, trust, satisfaction, and behavioral intention to use, and 'high detail condition' higher the user' Psychological reactance. In addition, it was found that the explanation methods and detail influenced the 'Explanation' perception through interaction and tended to affect satisfaction and intention to adopt recommendation. This study suggested that careful attention is needed to determine the method and detail of the Explanation facilities in the context of the recommended agent, based on the research findings that it affects the user experience through the interaction of the method and detail.

Sorption of Dissolved Inorganic Phosphorus to Zero Valent Iron and Black Shale as Reactive Materials (반응매질로서의 영가철 및 블랙셰일에 용존무기 인산염 흡착)

  • In order to reduce the availability of dissolved inorganic phosphorus in surface water, lakes, and estuaries, black shale and zero valent iron can be used as reacitve materials. Sorption of phosphate to sampled sediment, black shale, and zero valent iron was quantitatively evaluated in this research. Effect of coexistence of calcium was also tested, since coexisting ions can enhance the precipitation of phosphate. An empirical kinetic model with fast sorption(k$_t$), slow sorption(k$_s$), and precipitation(k$_p$) was well fitted to experiment data from this research. Langmuir and Freundlich sorption isotherms were also used to evaluated phosphate maximum sorption capacity. Calcium ions at 0, 1 and 5 mM affected the precipitation kinetic coefficient in empirical kinetic model but did not have impact on the maximum sorbed concentration.

IUE SPECTRA OF SEYEERT 1 GALAXY NGC 7469-BLR CHARACTERISTICS OF NGC 7469 (SEYFERT 1 은하 NGC 7469의 IUE SPECTRA-NGC 7469 BLR의 물리적 특성)

  • From the line ratios of Si III] 1892 to C III] 1909 (Feibelman & Aller 1987), we estimated the BLR electron densities and their changes of Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 7469 using IUE spectra observed from June 11 to July 29, 1996 (Wanders et al. 1997). We separated blended Si III] and C III] lines using the STARLINK/DIPSO and measured their fluxes within the error of $12.4\%\;and\;6.6\%,$ respectively. Electron density fluctuated from $10^{9.69}\;to\;10^{10.93}$ during about two month period, i.e. 17.3 times density variation within 50 days. We also derived time delays from UV emission line variations .elative to the continuum $(at\;1315{\AA}):$ 2 days for C IV, 4 days for C III], 8 days for Si III]. This suggests that their stratified UV line emission regions are at 0.002 pc, 0.004 pc and 0.006 pc, respectively, from the central region. Based on the BLR sizes and their rotation velocities deduced from the line profiles, we estimate the central black hole mass as about $10^6M_{\odot}$

Evaluation of Hot Mix Asphalt Properties using Complex Modifiers (복합개질제를 이용한 아스팔트 혼합물의 물성 평가)

  • In this study, to improve the performance of asphalt mixtures for plastic deformation occurring mainly in Korea, complex modifiers were prepared by mixing powders and liquid type modifiers. The main constituents were powdery diatomaceous earth, mica and carbon black, and liquid type solid 70% SBR latex. The tensile strength ratios for the two asphalt mixtures used in the test were above 0.80 for the Ministry of Land Transportation (2017) asphalt mixture production and construction guidelines. The effects of increasing the tensile strength in the dry state was more than 14% when the composite modifier was added. The deformation rate per minute by the wheel tracking test load was an average of 0.07 to 0.147 for each mixture. The strain rate per minute was improved by the modifier, and the dynamic stability was improved by almost 100% from 295 to 590. In addition, the final settling was reduced from 11.38 mm to 9.57 mm. A plastic deformation test using the triaxial compression test showed that the amount of deformation entering the plastic deformation failure zone at the end of the second stage section and in the third stage plastic deformation section was 1.76 mm for the conventional mixture and 1.50 mm for the complex modifier mixture. The average slope of the complex modifier asphalt mixture mixed with the multi-functional modifier was 0.005 mm/sec. The plastic deformation rate is relatively small in the section where the road pavement exhibits stable common performance, i.e. the traffic load.

Aethalometer-based Estimate of Mass Absorption Cross Section of Black Carbon Particles at an Urban Site of Gwangju (광주 지역에서 aethalometer 측정 블랙 카본 입자의 질량흡수단면 평가)

  • In this study, real-time absorption coefficients of carbonaceous species in $PM_{2.5}$ was observed using a dual-spot 7-wavelength Aethalometer between November 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017 at an urban site of Gwangju. In addition, 24-hr integrated $PM_{2.5}$ samples were simultaneously collected at the same site and analyzed for organic carbon and elemental carbon (OC and EC) using the thermal-optical transmittance protocol. A main objective of this study was to estimate mass absorption cross section (MAC) values of black carbon (BC) particles at the study site using the linear regression between aethalometer-based absorption coefficient and filter-based EC concentration. BC particles observed at 880 nm is mainly emitted from combustion of fossil fuels, and their concentration is typically reported as equivalent BC concentration (eBC). eBC concentration calculated using MAC value of $7.77m^2/g$ at wavelength of 880 nm, which was proposed by a manufacturer, ranged from 0.3 to $7.4{\mu}g/m^3$ with an average value of $1.9{\pm}1.2{\mu}g/m^3$, accounting for 7.3% (1.5~20.9%) of $PM_{2.5}$. The relationship between aerosol absorption coefficients at 880 nm and EC concentrations provided BC MAC value of $15.2m^2/g$, ranging from 11.4 to $16.2m^2/g$. The eBC concentrations calculated using the estimated MAC of $15.2m^2/g$ were significantly lower than those reported originally from aethalometer, and ranged from 0.2 to $3.8{\mu}g/m^3$, with an average of $1.0{\pm}0.6{\mu}g/m^3$, accounting for 3.7% of $PM_{2.5}$ (0.8~10.7%). Result from this study suggests that if the MAC value recommended by the manufacturer is applied to calculate the equivalent BC concentration and radiative forcing due to BC absorption, they would result in significant errors, implying investigation of an unique MAC value of BC particles at a study site.

An Advanced User-friendly Wireless Smart System for Vehicle Safety Monitoring and Accident Prevention (차량 안전 모니터링 및 사고 예방을 위한 친사용자 환경의 첨단 무선 스마트 시스템)

  • This paper presents an On-board Smart Device (OSD) for moving vehicle, based on a smooth integration of Android-based devices and a Micro-control Unit (MCU). The MCU is used for the acquisition and transmission of various vehicle-borne data. The OSD has threefold functions: Record, Report and Alarm. Based on these RRA functions, the OSD is basically a safety and convenience oriented smart device, where it facilitates alert services such as accident report and rescue as well as alarm for the status of vehicle. In addition, voice activated interface is developed for the convenience of users. Vehicle data can also be uploaded to a remote server for further access and data manipulation. Therefore, unlike conventional blackboxes, the developed OSD lends itself to a user-friendly smart device for vehicle safety: It basically stores monitoring images in driving plus vehicle data collection. Also, it reports on accident and enables subsequent rescue operation. The developed OSD can thus be considered an essential safety smart device equipped with comprehensive wireless data service, image transfer and voice activated interface.

  • In Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), service providers develop and deploy reusable services on the repositories, and service consumers utilize blackbox form of services through their interfaces. Services are also highly evolvable and often heterogeneous. Due to these characteristics of the service, it is hard to manage the faults if faults occur on the services. Autonomic Computing (AC) is a way of designing systems which can manage themselves without direct human intervention. Applying the key disciplines of AC to service management is appealing since key technical issues for service management can be effectively resolved by AC. In this paper, we present a theoretical model, Symptom-Cause-Actuator (SCA), to enable autonomous service fault management in SOA. We derive SCA model from our rigorous observation on how physicians treat patients. In this paper, we first define a five-phase computing model and meta-model of SCA. And, we define a schema of SCA profile, which contains instances of symptoms, causes, actuators and their dependency values in a machine readable form. Then, we present detailed algorithms for the five phases that are used to manage faults the services. To show the applicability of our approach, we demonstrate the result of our case study for the domain of 'Flight Ticket Management Services'.

A Framework and Patterns for Efficient Service Monitoring (효율적인 서비스 모니터링 프레임워크 및 전송패턴)

  • Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) is a reuse paradigm for developing business processes by dynamic service composition. Service consumers subscribe services deployed by service providers only through service interfaces. Therefore, services on server-side are perceived as black box to service consumers. Due to this nature of services, service consumers have limited knowledge on the quality of services. This limits utilizing of services in critical domains hard. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for effective methods for monitoring services. Current monitoring techniques generally depend on specific vendor's middleware without direct access to services due to the technical hardship of monitoring. However, these approaches have limitations including low data comprehensibility and data accuracy. And, this results in a demand for effective service monitoring framework. In this paper, we propose a framework for efficiently monitoring services. We first define requirements for designing monitoring framework. Based on the requirements, we propose architecture for monitoring framework and define generic patterns for efficiently acquiring monitored data from services. We present the detailed design of monitoring framework and its implementation. We finally implement a prototype of the monitor, and present the functionality of the framework as well as the results of experiments to verify efficiency of patterns for transmitting monitoring data.

Effects of Silane Structure on Composite Interaction Parameter (αC)) of Silica Filled Rubber Compounds (실란 구조가 실리카 복합소재 내 구조발달 상호계수(αC)에 미치는 영향)

  • Due to the polar characteristics of silica compared to carbon black, the degree of silica dispersion, which affects the mechanical properties of rubber compounds, is an important issue. Wolff first introduced the in-rubber structure of particles (${\alpha}_F$) to express the structure development in the compounds; however, with the introduction of bifunctional silanes, his theory could not explain the 3-dimensional network structure of the compounds. Later his theory was expanded to express the composite interaction parameter (in-rubber structure of the compound) (${\alpha}_C$), which included Wolff's filler-filler interaction parameter (${\alpha}_F$), however, there was no reported experimental result proving the theory. This research first experimentally expressed the in-rubber structure of the compound ${\alpha}_C$ (= ${\alpha}_F+{\alpha}_{FP}$(filler-silane-rubber interaction parameter) + ${\alpha}_P$ (rubber-rubber interaction parameter)) upon mono- and bifunctional silane treated silica filled natural rubber (NR) compounds. Using different structure silanes, i.e. PTES, OTES, TESPD, and TESPT, the ${\alpha}_C$ value of each compound was measured and calculated. The ${\alpha}_C$ value of TESPT treated silica filled compound was 1.64, which composed of ${\alpha}_F$ (0.99), ${\alpha}_{FP}$ (0.31), and ${\alpha}_P$ (0.34).
