  • This study aimed to assess changes in maximum bite force and psychological elements in patients with bruxism treated with botulinum toxin who visited the hospital with a chief complaint of masseter hypertrophy. From among the subjects with masseter hypertrophy as the chief complaint, 10 patients with and 10 without bruxism were selected. We measured bite force prior to botulinum toxin injection and at 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after the injection and assessed changes in psychological elements by using Symptom Checklist 90 Revision. The study results showed statistically significant differences in maximum bite force on both the right and left sides between the patients with and those without bruxism, according to periodic changes (p<0.05). Depression elements showed statistically significant changes in the patients with bruxism (p<0.05). In the bruxism and non-bruxism groups, the patients recovered from anxiety in accordance with the periodic changes (p<0.05). Our study results indicate that the patients with bruxism show significant changes in interpersonal sensitivity, depression, and anxiety according to the treatment periods, and that occlusal force and depression were significantly related. Therefore, when setting a treatment plan for bruxism, multilateral psychological elements must be considered, along with functional elements.

  • This study aims to examine the effect of child-centered group play therapy on the improvement of withdrawn preschool children's daily stress, anxiety, peer interaction and EEG variation. The research subjects are 12 children of 3-5 years of age who are over 65T in the social-withdrawal scale of KPRC(Korean Personality Rating Scale for Children). They were recommended by class teachers due to the withdrawal behavior at D kindergarten in Seoul. The experimental group received 12 sessions of the child-centered group play therapy program, twice a week for 35 minutes. But the control group did not receive any of the child-centered group play therapy program. To verify the effects of the program, a Mann-Whitney-U test of the non-parametric was preceded and homogeneity between the two groups was verified. Also, a Wilcoxon's signed-rank test was conducted to check on the pre-to-post changes of daily stress, anxiety, peer-interaction and EEG variation by using SPSS 18.0. The results of this research showed that the child-centered group play therapy program decreases daily stress and anxiety, while it increases positive peer-interaction and the EQ of withdrawal children. The result of this study serves as a baseline data about the effects of child-centered group play therapy for withdrawal children with emotional difficulties.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between emotional traumatic experience, stress, depression, and anxiety and to identify factors influencing suicide ideation. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire survey administered to students from four health colleges in B city and a total of 289 questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed by frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN program. The results show that there were significant differences in emotional trauma according to the general characteristics of the study subjects (p=.005) and stress related to grades (p=.029). Depression showed significant differences for gender (p=.020), religion (p=.022), and anxiety related to gender (p=.047). Suicidal thinking was not significantly different from the general characteristics. The suicidal ideation of the subjects was significantly correlated with emotional trauma (p<.001), stress (p<.001), depression (p<.001) and anxiety (p<.001). Factors affecting the suicidal ideation of the subjects were emotional trauma (t=4.117, p<.001), stress (t=2.909, p=.004), depression (t=3.421, p=.001), and anxiety (t=2.875, p=.004), and the explanatory power was 34.1%. This study can be used as basic data for the development of a suicide prevention program by identifying correlations between emotional traumatic experience, stress, depression, and anxiety related to suicide ideation and identifying factors affecting suicide ideation. Based on these results, the development of programs to reduce the college student suicide rate is necessary.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of children's daily stress and employed mothers' nurturing attitude on children's problem behavior, as well as the mediating role of employed mothers' nurturing attitude. 160 children (aged 3-6, in city "D") and their mothers participated in this study. The SPSS 18.0 program was used to conduct a regression analysis to examine the correlation between the children's daily stress, their problem behavior and the employed mothers' nurturing attitude, depending on the gender of the children. The results were as follows : First, in the case of the boys, their aggression and attention have effects on their coercive attitude, and their anxiety and depression have effects of decreasing magnitude on their logical attitude, blaming / offensive stress and pride-hurt stress in that order. Secondly, in the case of the girls, their aggression has effects on their coercive attitude, and their attention has effects of decreasing magnitude on their anxiety / frustration stress and coercive logical attitude in that order. On the other hand, their anxiety / depression have effects of decreasing magnitude on their accused/offensive stress and coercive attitude in that order. Third, the employed mothers' nurturing attitude had mediating effects between the children's daily stress and their problem behavior. However, no such mediating effects were observed in the case of the boys. Therefore, the mothers tend to foster complementary and logical parenting, rather than coercive or negligent parenting. It is thought that children need to reduce their stress levels in everyday life (in order to?) reduce their problems.

  • The study aimed to evaluate the effects of the EMDR-IGPT(Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing-integrative group treatment protocol) on the depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, self-esteem in graduate nursing students. A quasi-experimental study employing a nonequivalent control group and pre-post design was conducted. The participants were graduate nursing students from C university (Experimental group=22, Control group=28). The experimental group participated in the 8 session-EMDR-IGPT for 8 weeks, while control group were treated by waitlist. Data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2-test$, independent t-test, with SPSS 24.0 program. There were significant differences in anxiety(t=-2.50, p<.05) and self-esteem(t=20.78, p<.01) of participants between experimental group and control group after completion of 8 session-EMDR-IGPT. The results indicate that EMDR-IGPT can be used to improve anxiety and self-esteem of graduate nursing students. Furthermore, further study needs to identify the mechanism of the effects of the program.

  • Under this thesis, 235 patients with dental problems treated under general anesthesia at the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of Yonsei Dental College were surveyed and their age distribution, reasons for taking general anesthesia, duration of anesthesia, duration of dental procedure, dental treatment peformed and complications were analyzed. A questionnaire survey was also conducted to analyze degrees of anxiety and satisfaction among their parents according to the parents' age, educational background and experience of general anesthesia, as well as the patients' age and past dental history. Following are the results. 1. When the patients were treated under general anesthesia, the degree of anxiety of their mothers was higher than that of their fathers. It appeared that the higher the parents' educational background was, the less their anxiety. 2. The higher the parents' educational level was, the higher the degree of satisfaction after treatment under general anesthesia. 95 cases (87.2%) responded that they would accept such treatment again, if needed. From the result, dental treatment under general anesthesia causes anxiety for parent but the parent's satisfaction level was high. And that was the way gives good quality of dental service to unmanagable patients.

  • An experimental investigation on the structure and dynamic behavior of two dimensional over-expanded air jets exiting into water was carried out. The hish speed digital video imaging and static pressure distribution measurement were made to characterize the structure and time-dependant behavior of the jets. Mach number at the jet exit was 2.0 and was slightly less than the value predicted by the ideal nozzle calculation. Variance of jet spreading angle at different stagnation condition was measured as a function of mass flow rate. Periodic nature of the air jet distortion in water was observed and the frequency of the repetition was approximately 5-6 Hz for all cases tested. Three characteristic length scales were defined to characterize jet structure. $L_1$, maximum width of the plume when the periodic instability occurs, $L_2$, width of the jet where secondary reverse flow entrained jet flow and $L_3$, distance from the jet exit to the location where entrainment of the secondary reverse flow occurs. The ratio of $L_1$ and $L_2$ decreased with increasing stagnation pressure, i.e. mass flow rate. $L_3$ increased with increasing stagnation pressure. The temporal behavior of static pressure measurements also showed peak around frequency of 5, which corresponds the frequency obtained by visual measurements

  • Purpose: The aim of this retrospective study were to report the short-term results of inferior capsular shift procedure using splitting subscapularis and capsule for the patients who had shoulder instability and were apt to recur after arthroscopic stabilization procedure. Materials & Methods : Fifteen cases of instability of the shoulder were included with an average follow-up of 2 years (range: 1$\~$3 years). There were 13 men and 2 women with an average age of 27years. Multidirectional instability was found in 4 cases, voluntary instability in 3 cases, bony Bankarte lesion in 2 cases and 6 cases were contact sportmen. Thirteen shoulders underwent the inferior capsular shifts and Bankart repairs and 2 shoulders without Bankart lesion underwent the inferior capsular shift only. Average 19 mm of shift (range: 10$\~$25 mm) was done. Results : Fourteen patients showed good and excellent results with one subluxation and one positive apprehension test. Postoperative ranges of motions did not change in forward elevation, external rotation at side and external rotation at 90$^{\circ}$ abduction (p>0.05). Conclusion : Inferior capsular shift procedure using splitting subscapularis and capsule can be helpful in shoulder instability patients who were high-risk group of recurrence with arthroscopic procedure.
