The Effect of an Instruction Using Generating Analogy on Students’ Conceptual Understanding in Middle School Science Concept Learning (중학교 과학 개념 학습에서 비유 만들기를 이용한 수업이 학생들의 개념 이해에 미치는 효과)

  • study investigated the effect of an instruction using generating analogy on scientific conceptual understanding, science learning motivation, attitude toward science instruction, and perception of instruction. Two classes of seventh graders at a middle school in Seoul were randomly assigned to the treatment group and the control group, and they were taught about the motion of molecules for 5 class hours. The instruction for treatment group was developed based on the Glynns Teaching-With-Analogy model. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in the conception test. However, there was no significant difference between two groups in the science learning motivation test and the test on the attitude toward science instruction. Survey results on the students perception of instruction showed that generating analogy was hard for the greater part of students, and finding appropriate analog was the most difficult work. Educational implications are discussed.

  • 그래핀은 높은 전자 이동도, 열전도도, 기계적 강도, 유연성 등의 고유한 특성으로 다양한 분야에 응용하기 위한 연구가 수행되고 있으며, 특히 전자 소자에의 적용에 관한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 전자 소자에 적용하기 위해서는 성장 및 물성에 관한 규명, 응용 소자에 따른 특성 평가가 필요하다. 이러한 소자 특성은 그래핀 물성에 의한 영향이 기본적이지만 에칭, 전사 등의 공정 중 발생하는 오염, 표면 특성, 잔여물 등에 의한 물성 변화 또한 분석 및 제어에 관한 연구가 필요하다. 열화학증착법(thermal chemical vapor deposition)을 이용한 그래핀 합성은 구리 기판을 사용하며, 합성된 그래핀의 에칭, 박리 및 전사 공정이 있다. 이러한 공정 중 발생하는 오염 입자가 그래핀 표면에 흡착되거나, 제거되지 않은 PMMA 잔여물이 그래핀의 특성에 영향을 미치게 된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 $CO_2$ 클러스터의 표면 충돌을 이용하여 이러한 오염 물질 및 잔여물을 제거하고 그래핀 표면을 평탄화하는 것에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 가스 클러스터란 작동기체의 분자가 수십에서 수백 개 뭉쳐 있는 형태를 뜻하며 이렇게 형성된 클러스터는 수 nm 크기를 형성하게 된다. 그리고 짧은 시간의 응축에 의해 수십 nm 크기 까지 성장 하게 된다. 클러스터를 이용한 표면 처리는 충돌에 의한 제거에 기반 한다. 따라서 생성 및 가속되는 클러스터로부터 대상으로 전달되는 운동량의 정도가 세정 특성에 영향을 미치며 이는 생성되는 클러스터의 크기에 종속적이다. 생성 클러스터의 크기 분포는 분사거리, 유량, 분사 각도, 노즐 냉각 온도 등의 변수에 관한 함수이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 변수들을 제어하여 클러스터를 이용한 그래핀 표면 처리 실험을 수행하였다. 평가는 클러스터 표면 처리 전과 후의 특성 비교에 기반 하였으며, 광학 현미경을 이용한 표면 형상 측정, 라만분광 분석, AFM을 이용한 표면 조도 측정, 그래핀 면저항 측정 결과를 비교하였다. 평가 결과를 통하여 표면 처리를 하지 않은 그래핀에 비하여 면저항과 표면 조도가 낮아지는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 또한 클러스터 세정은 300 mm 웨이퍼 크기 이상의 대면적을 짧은 시간에 건식으로 세정할 수 있다는 장점이 있어 향후 최적화를 통해 그래핀 양산 시 특성 향상을 위한 후처리 방법으로 사용될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

원적외선 곡물건조기 개발

  • 국내 보급되고 있는 곡물건조기는 열풍형 순환식 곡물건조기가 주종을 이루고 있는데, 이건조기의 경우 곡물이 순환하면서 열풍공급과 템퍼링과정을 반복하면서 건조가 이루어지는 대류열전달 방식을 채택하고 있다. 대류열전달 방식은 복사열전달 방식에 비해 열전달률이 낮기 때문에 건조속도와 열효율이 떨어지며, 건조시 미질 향상과 건조비용 절감에 한계가 있어 왔다. 따라서 건조에너지의 절감과 동시에 고품질 쌀 생산을 할 수 있는 새로운 형식의 곡물건조기술을 확립하고자 원적외선 곡물건조기를 개발하였다. 원적외선은 0.56~l,000$\mu\textrm{m}$의 전자파로서 세라믹 도료표면에 열을 가하면 원적외선 파장대의 강한 에너지를 얻을 수 있다. 이같은 원적외선 에너지를 농산물에 조사시키면 열이 침투하게되고 동시에 농산물의 내부온도가 상승함에 따라 활발한 분자운동을 하면서 수분을 표면으로 이동시키기 때문에 열풍건조방법에 비해 열전달효율이 높고, 농산물을 보다 균일하게 건조가 가능하므로 좋은 품질의 쌀을 생산할 수 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 시작기는 1회 3,800kg을 건조할 수 있도록 설계하였고, 템퍼링실, 건조실, 열풍실, 승강기 등으로 구성되었다. 원적외선 방사체의 형태는 실린더형이고, 방사체가 설치된 열풍실 위쪽은 타공망, 아래쪽은 방사량을 높이기 위하여 일부 개방된 구조로 제작하였다. 본 연구에서 구명된 원적외선 방사체 길이와 조사거리는 각각 1,470mm, 125mm가 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 시작기의 성능시험을 열풍건조기(대비구)와 비교한 결과 소음은 대비구에서의 94.12dB보다 13% 가량 낮게 나타났고, 건조온도를 45$^{\circ}C$로 설정하고 벼를 건조했을 때 건감률 0.58%,wb로 대비구의 0.47%,wb 보다 23% 높았고, 건조소요에너지도 470kcal/kg - water로 2%의 절감되었다. 또한 건조한 벼를 도정하여 색, 냄새, 윤기, 찰기 등에 대한 관능검사결과는 원적외선 건조방법이 종합기호도가 6.37으로 열풍건조방법 6.13보다 우수한 평가를 받았다. 건조비용은 시작기의 구입가격이 20% 비싸기 때문에 시간당 고정비가 높았으나, 건조성능이 우수하여 건조비용이 69,350원/톤으로 대비구보다 14% 절감되는 것으로 나타났다.

Analysis of Insulating Reliability in Epoxy Composites (Epoxy 복합체의 절연 신뢰도 해석)

  • In this study, the dielectric breakdown of epoxy composites used for transformers was experimented and then its data were simulated by Weibull distribution probability. The dielectric breakdown characteristics origin in epoxy composites were examined and various effects of dielectric breakdown on epoxy composites were also discussed. As a result, first of all, speaking of dielectric breakdown properties, the more hardener increased the stronger breakdown strength at low temperature because of cross-linked density by the virtue of ester radical. And the breakdown strength of specimens with filler was lower than it of non-filler specimens because it is believed that the adding filler forms interface and charge is accumulated in it, therefore the molecular motility is raised, the electric field is concentrated, and the acceleration of electron and the growth of electron avalanche are early accomplished. In the case of filled specimens with treating silane, the breakdown strength become much higher since this suggests that silane coupling agent improves interfacial combination and relaxs electric field concentration. Finally, from the analysis of weibull distribution, it was confirmed that as the allowed breakdown probability was given by 0.1%, the applied field value needed to be under 21.5㎹/cm.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the structure and content of chemistry teacher's explanations from the perspective of 'persuasion'. Especially, this study was to explore how the argument structure and the conceptual change constructs in chemistry teachers' explanations were established and interacted. Data were collected from chemistryI classes considering the gas unit which includes kinetic theory of gas, Graham's law, Boyle's law, and Charles' law. The classes were vediotaped and transcribed. The transcriptions were analyzed with Toulmin's argument frame and the two constructs of conceptual change model; the conceptual ecology and the status of a conception to interpret the persuasive structure and content of the teacher's explanations. As the results of this study, four explanatory discourses which show various persuasive explanations in chemistry classes. Based on this results, discussion and implications for effective teachers' explanations in chemistry classes were presented.

  • A steady-state analytical model was presented for a loop heat pipe (LHP) with an evaporator that has a flat geometry. On the basis of a series of reviews of the relevant literature, a sequence of calculations was proposed to predict the temperatures and pressures at each important part of the LHP: the evaporator, liquid reservoir (compensation chamber), liquid line, vapor line, and condenser. The analysis of the evaporator, which is the only part in the LHP that has a capillary structure, was emphasized. Thin-film theory is applied to account for the pressure and temperature in the region adjacent to the liquid-vapor interface in the evaporator. The present study introduced a unique method to estimate the liquid temperature at the interface. Relative freedom was assumed in the configuration of a condenser with a simplified liquid-vapor interface. Our steady-state model was validated by experimental results available in the literature. The relative error was within 3% on the absolute temperature scale, and reasonable agreement was obtained.

Effects of temperature on Hardness and Stiffness of NR and SBR Vulcanizates (NR과 SBR 가황물의 경도와 강성도 대한 온도의 영향)

  • Hardness of rubbery materials, which is important for dimensional stability and product performance, was investigated upon temperature change in this study. A newly developed IRHD (International Rubber Hardness Degree) tester was used to measure the hardness changes of NR and SBR specimens at various temperatures and the hardness values were compared with the Young's modulus. The harness and Young's modulus of NR and SBR showed an abrupt change near the glass transition temperatures. The hardness and Young's modulus were increased by increasing temperature due to the increased random chain conformation of molecules. The effect of temperature on hardness and Young's modulus of NR and SBR specimens filled with carbon black and silica was decreased by increasing filler content.

The effects of CAI adapting to the level of students' conceptual understanding in concept learning (개념 학습에서 학생들의 개념 이해 수준에 적응적인 CAI의 효과)

  • This study investigated the effects of computer-assisted instruction adapting to the level of students' conceptual understanding upon students' conceptual understanding, retention of conceptions, learning motivation, and perception about computer-assisted instruction in concept learning. 94 seventh grade students from a coed middle school in Seoul were randomly assigned to control, CAI, adaptive CAI groups, and were taught about 'motion of molecules' for 7 class periods. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the scores of a conception test and a learning motivation test for the adaptive CAI group were significantly higher than those for the control group. The scores of a retention test of conceptions for the adaptive CAI group were significantly higher than those for other two groups. There were no significant interactions between the instruction and the level of previous achievement in the scores of the conception test, the learning motivation test, and the retention test of conceptions. The perception about computer-assisted instruction for the students of the adaptive CAI group were more positive than those for the students of the CAI group.

Analysis of Differences of Explanation on Gas Pressure and Atmospheric Pressure in Science Textbooks (과학 교과서에서 기압과 대기압에 대한 설명 방식의 차이점 분석)

  • In this study, we analyzed differences of explanation on gas pressure and atmospheric pressure in elementary and secondary school science textbooks and general chemistry and general earth science textbooks based on three types of explanation criteria: first, explanation of mass; second, explanation of air pressure on unit area; third. explanation of molecular motion. The results were as follows. Elementary science textbook belonged to the first type. All of the secondary school chemistry textbooks belonged to the third type. But most of the general chemistry textbooks belonged to the first and second type. Most of the earth science textbooks for secondary school and most of the general earth science textbooks belonged to the first type. Therefore, the differences of explanation could disturb students' understanding on gas pressure and atmospheric pressure.
