High Energy Electron Dosimetry by Alanine/ESR Spectroscopy (Alanine/ESR Spectroscopy에 의한 고에너지 전자선의 선량측정)

  • Dosimerty based on electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis of radiation induced free radicals in amino acids is relevant to biological dosimetry applications. Alanine detectors are without walls and are tissue equivalent. Therefore, alanine ESR dosimetry looks promising for use in the therapy level. The dose range of the alanine/ESR dosimetry system can be extended down to 1 Gy. In water phantom the absorbed dose of electrons generated by a medical linear accelerator of different initial energies $(6\~21MeV)$ and therapeutic dose levels (1~60 Gy) was measured. Furthermore, depth dose measurements carried out with alanine dosimeters were compared with ionization chamber measurements. As the results, the measured absorbed doses for shallow depth of initial electron energies above 15 MeV were higher by$2\~5\%$ than those calculated by nominal energy $C_E$ factors. This seems to be caused by low energy scattered beams generated from the scattering foil and electron cones of beam projecting device in medical linear accelerator.

Morphological Structure of Poly(trimethylene terephthalate) Fibers Annealed by Passing on the Plate Heater (연속 평판열처리에 의한 폴리(트리메틸렌 테레프탈레이트) 섬유의 미세구조 변화)

  • Poly(trimethylene terephthalate)(PTT) fibers were treated by passing on the plate heater to study the annealing effect on the change of morphological structure and physical properties. In the X-ray diffraction curves of PTT annealed, a sharp peak at 2$\theta$=15.6$^{\circ}$ appeared and the peak intensity became stronger with the increase of annealing temperature and time. This peak was based on the (010) plane of PTT crystals. The crystallinity determined by density measurement was also increased by annealing. With the increases of temperature and time, the dynamic viscoelastic behaviors were shown to be a large reduction in T(tan $\delta$$_{max}$). The birefringence and $T_g$ were also reduced, but the melting temperature was the same. These results mean that the molecular chains in armorphous region are transfered into the crystalline legion, making the remained chains relaxed during annealing at tensionless state.

  • 본 실험은 성숙가토의 정자와 정장의 항원성을 조사하여 면역적 불임원인 규명에 필요한 기초자료를 얻고자 시도하였다. 인공질로 채취한 정액을 원심분리하여 얻은 정자와 정장을 항원으로 사용하였으며 항원성의 측정방법은 크로마토그라프에 의한 단백질 분리, SDS-PAGE, HPLC, 한천확산법, 전기영동, 수동적혈구응집방법 및 부동화시험이었다. 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. SDS-PAGE 전기영동시 정상가토 정장에서 약 23개의 단백질이 분리되었고, 그중 분자량이 약 20,000되는 단백질부분이 정관절제 수술한 정장에서 나타나지 않았다. 2. 정상가토 정장을 HPLC를 이용한 분석에서 3개의 peaks을 볼 수 있었고, 정관절제수술한 것에서는 peak 1에 해당하는 단백질이 소실되었다. 3. 한천확산시험에서 정상정장은 이종혈청과는 4개의 침강선을 나타냈고, 전기영동에서는 7개의 침강선을 나타냈다. 4. 이종면역에서 정자 및 정장은 항체가 상승이 용이하였지만, 동종면역시는 추가면역이 필요하였으며 개체간의 역가차이를 보였다. 정자면역한 자성가토에서는 수동적혈구응집반응을 나타냈지만, 한천확산 및 전기영동반응은 보이지 않았고, 같은 처치를 받은 웅성가토에서도 역시 같은 반응양상을 나타냈다. 5. 동종 및 이종항혈청을 이용한 교차전기영동방법으로 정장의 항원적 구성요소를 구별할 수 있었다. 사출된 정액에서 분리된 정장은 일부 항원을 포함하고 있었으며 이는 성숙한 정자에서 기인한 것으로 사료되었다.

  • Co(A $I_{1- X}$C $u_{X}$ ) (0$\leq$0.40)합금계의 결정구조 및 자기적 특성을 X-선 회절분석기, 주사전자현미경 그리고 진동 시료형 자력계를 이용하여 조사하였다. X-선 결정구조 및 상분석 결과, 전조성 범위에서 주상은 격자상수가 약 2.86$\AA$인 규칙화한 B2(CsCI)구조를 가지고 있었으며, x $\geq$0.10범위에서는Cu함량이 많은 제 2상이 존재하였고 격자상수가 약 3.63$\AA$인 FCC 구조이었다. 자화측정결과 x $\geq$0.25범위에서는 강자성, x$\leq$0.10에서는 상자성 그리고 x=0.15, 0.20에서는 초상자성의 특성을 나타내었다. Cu함량(x)이 증가함에 따라 자화값은 증가하는 현상을 보여주었다. 본 합금계의 측정한 분자당 스핀자기 모멘트 값은 국부환경모델을 이용하여 각 조성에서 계산된 Co원소에 대한 스핀자기 모멘트 값과 잘 일치함을 보여주었다.다.

  • The propulsion systems such as upper stages of launch vehicles, orbiters, spacecrafts have to operate in the zero gravity environment. Because the flight condition where the vehicle undergoes is different from the normal gravity state, many studies have been being in progress. Fluid behavior in the zero gravity condition is differently shown in the normal gravity state because the importance of the intermolecular force, such as adhesion, cohesion, and surface tension is enlarged. In this paper, we investigate the characteristic of fluid behavior and describe effects and problems on the liquid propulsion system due to these fluid behavior. We also check which studies are in progress in order to solve these problems.

Characteristics of Silk Sericin Powder Prepared by Mechanical Treatment (물리적 분쇄에 의한 세리신 분말의 특성)

  • Silk sericin powder was prepared by mechanical treatment from culled-cocoon extract of Bombyx mori silkworm. The physical and structural characteristics of sericin powder were investigated by instrumental analysis. The solubility of sericin powder was decreased nearly half of sericin lyophilized. Amino acid analysis showed that arginine content was decreased from 3.72% to 0.03∼0.07%. XRD showed that molecules of sericin were somewhat regularly arranged by mechanical treatment. On the other hand, FT-IR showed the molecular vibration of silk sericin was not induced by mechanical treatment. Thermal properties also did not changed.

  • Prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP) is one of the widely used biomarkers in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. It was initially identified in 1935 and is the most abundant phosphatase in the human prostate. PAP is a prostate-specific enzyme that is synthesized in prostate epithelial cells. It belongs to the acid phosphatase group that shows enzymatic activity in acidic conditions. PAP is abundant in prostatic fluid and is thought to have a role in fertilization and oligospermia. It also has a potential role in reducing chronic pain. But one of the most apparent functions of PAP is the dephosphorylation of macromolecules such as HER-2 and PI3P that are involved in the ERK1/2 and MAPK pathways, which in turn leads to inhibition of cell growth and tumorigenesis. Currently, clinical trials using PAP DNA vaccine are underway and FDA-approved immunotherapy using PAP is commercially available. Despite these clinically important aspects, molecular mechanisms underlying PAP regulation are not fully understood. The promoter region of PAP was reported to be regulated by NF-${\kappa}B$, TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-1, androgen and androgen receptors. Here, the features of PAP gene and protein structures together with the function, regulation and roles of PAP in prostate cancer are discussed.

Rheological Properties of Poly(lactic acid) Modified by Electron Beam Irradiation (전자선 조사로 개질된 PLA의 유변학적 물성)

  • Poly(lactic acid)(PLA) has been modified by electron radiation in the presence of 5 phr glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) to enhance the melt strength of PLA. The modified PLA was prepared by varying the dose of irradiation and was characterized by observing the thermal properties, the melt viscoelastic properties and the gel fraction. The irradiated PLA with 300 kGy in the presence of 5 phr GMA showed drastically improved complex viscosity and storage modulus properties: a complex viscosity of about 210 times higher and a storage modulus of 14500 times higher than those of virgin PLA when measured at a frequency of 0.1 rad/s. Gel fraction study revealed that a branching reaction was more dominant than a crosslinking reaction when the PLA was irradiated with less than 200 kGy.

Quality Characteristics of Gamma-Irradiated Pork (감마선 조사 돈육의 품질특성)

  • This research was conducted to investigate changes in quality characteristics of gamma-irradiated porks during storage at different temperature and periods. In The proximate composition of pork was not significantly changed by irradiation dose and storage period. The SDS electrophoresis patterns were not significantly different between nonirradiated and irradiated samples. All samples stored in at 5$^{\circ}C$ showed a prominent breakdown of molecular weights ranging from 97,000 to 116,000 Daltons after 8 weeks' storage. In heme pigment(myoglobin) content, metmyoglobin content of chicken stored at 5$^{\circ}C$ was not affected by gamma irradiation but slightly increased with the increase in storage period. All samples stored at -2$0^{\circ}C$ were not different in heme pigment content between nonirradiated and irradiated samples and slightly decreased as the freezing storage period increased. About textural property, hardness of all samples appears to be increased slightly by gamma irradiation. However, the extent of increase was so little that it could be ignored.
