  • Signal performances according link span dispersion compensation conditions at the 2000 km long-haul transmission distance using 10 Gbps 40 wavelength division multiplexing channels were analyzed and compared. 95%, 97.5%, 100%, 102.5% and 105% compensation conditions were applied and 97.5% gave the best performance without post dispersion compensation. the effects of accumulated dispersion value and average dispersion value per transmission link for each link compensation condition were analyzed. When post dispersion compensation optimization was applied to five link span dispersion compensation conditions, 102.5% was given the best performance.

  • Optical power optimization of 10 Gbps 40 wavelength division multiplexing channels was analyzed at the 3000 km long-haul transmission distance when the link span distance was changed between 40 km and 140 km. The signal performance of the transmission was obtained as a Q value and it was compared when input power into SSMF and input power into DCF on the transmission link were changed. The optimized input power into SSMF increased linearly to link span distance with 1 dB/km. The optimized power into DCF increased linearly with 0.5 dB/km up to 100 km link span, but it had no variation at longer link span than 100 km.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy model-based approach for synchronization of time-delay chaotic system with input saturation. Time-delay chaotic drive and response system is respectively represented by Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. Specially, the response system contains input saturation. Using the unidirectional linear error feedback and the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) scheme, we design fuzzy chaotic synchronization system and analyze local stability for synchronization error dynamics. Since time-delay in the transmission channel always exists, we also take it into consideration. The sufficient condition for the local stability of the fuzzy synchronization system with input saturation and time-delay is derived by applying Lyapunov-Krasovskii theory and solving linear matrix inequalities (LMI's) problem. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach.

  • System performance improvement through the concentrated residual dispersion per span (RDPS) in special transmission fiber spans in optical transmission links with dispersion management (DM) for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) transmission is investigated through the comparison with the performance in optical transmission links with uniform RDPS in every fiber spans. It is confirmed that, in optical links with RDPS of 0 ps/nm uniformly distributed in the rest fiber spans, if RDPS of 300 ps/nm and 1,320 ps/nm are concentrated in 5th-13th fiber spans and 6th-13th fiber spans, respectively, then the best performance is obtained. It is also confirmed that optimal net residual dispersion (NRD) controlled by precompensation and postcompensation are 10 ps/nm and -10 ps/nm, respectively, in all two cases, and the effective launching power range below 1 dB eye opening penalty (EOP) in the concentrated RDPS of 300 ps/nm and 1,320 ps/nm are improved by 2 dB and 6 dB than optical transmission links with the uniformly distributed RDPS, respectively.
