  • 등통로각압축(ECAP, Equal Channel Angular Pressing)공정은 다결정의 재료 덩어리를 두 채널(channel)이 일정하게 교차하는 형태의 금형에 통과시켜 단면적과 단면 형상의 큰 변화 없이 압출하는 성형법으로 다른 공정에 비해 상대적으로 낮은 압력으로 재료에 소성변형을 발생시켜 입자를 미세화 시킬 수 있으며, 기존의 분말야금에 의한 방법에 비해 상용재료를 포함한 광범위한 금속 및 합금에 적용이 용이한 점과 재료 내부에 기포가 거의 잔류하지 않는 점등의 장점을 가지고 있다.(중략)

분말야금용 수분사 철분의 열처리 특성 (Heat Treatment Properties of Water Atomized Iron Powder for Powder Metallurgy)

  • In order to establish making process of water atomized iron powder for powder metallurgy, effect of heat treatment condition on change of powder properties and impurities was investigated at each tempeature of $850{\sim}950^{\circ}C$. The results are as follows. Particle morphology of iron powder changed slightly from sphercial type to irregular type and the amount of fine particle decreased more and more with increasing of heat treatment time at each temperature. The flow rate and apparent desity of iron powder also decreased due to particle coalescence in order of $850^{\circ}C$, $950^{\circ}C$, $900^{\circ}C$. Those powder Properties became to decrease particularly at $900^{\circ}C$ in alpha iron region. On the other hand, residual carbon and oxygen contents in iron powder decreased extremely with increasing of heat treatment temperature and time.

  • 최근 엔진의 고성능, 고출력화, 저연비화 Maintenance Free화에 따라 엔진의 부하가 증대되었고, Valve Seat에 대해서도 내마모성, 내열성, 내식성 향상이 요구되고 있다. 특히 무연가솔린과 LPG사용으로 내구성을 갖는 High Performance의 Valve Seat 재질을 요구하게 되었고, 엔진의 높은 작동온도등 가혹한 조건하에서 'Recession'이라 일컬어지는 Seat마모가 생기게 된다. Valve Seat는 일반적으로 분말야금법에 따라 제조되고 있으며, 엔진조건에 따라 여러가지의 재질이 사용되며, 높은 온도에서 열전도성과 기공의 산화방지 및 Valve 내구성 향상의 효과를 얻기 위하여 동용침을 하여 사용하는 추세이다. 본 실험에서는 Valve Seat 기공부위의 산화와 마모특성을 조사하기로 한다.

  • The effect of annealing condition on the texture and microstructure development in Ni tapes fabricated by cold-rolling including powder metallurgy was investigated. The Pole-figure results showed that the Ni tapes annealed at lower temperature than 50$0^{\circ}C$ were the mixture of brass deformation texture and cube texture. The specimens annealed at high temperatures had only well-developed cube texture and the FWHMs of in-plane and out-of-plane were in the range of 8-10$^{\circ}$. The degree of texture was not significantly depended on annealing temperatures. The grain morphologies of Ni tapes prepared at low temperatures showed serrated grain boundaries due to incomplete recrystallization, but the specimens prepared at high temperatures showed stabilized grain shape without serrated grain boundaries.

  • EMI 대책용 전자파 흡수체로 알려진 cu-Ni-쿠 페라이트를 분말야금법으로 제조하여, 성형압력과 소결온도의 변화에 따른 미세조직을 과낯ㄹ하고, 투과반사법으로 전자파 흡수능을 측정하여 조직과의 관계로 검토하였다. 하소는 공기중에서 90$0^{\circ}C$로 2시간동안 행하는 것이 최적이었다. 미세조직과 입자의 크기는 성형압과 소결온도로 제어할 수 있다. 100Mpa로 성형한 것이 치밀하고, 전자파 흡수특성이 우수하였다. 복소유전율과 복소투자율은 기공도와 소결밀도에 영향을 받았다. 전자파흡수능은 밀도보다는 입자의 크기에 더 큰 영향을 받았다.

  • In this thesis, using the 400 series ferrite stainless steel such as 434LD$_2$ which are furter excellent then the existing ferric products in mechanical characteristics, and experiment has been conducted on corrosion resistance of sensor ring. The results are following. 1. The products before sintering are much more corrodible in the condition of spray test of salt water and ammonia than humidity and nitrogen condition. 2. 434LD$_2$ ferrite stainless steel has shown a good corrosion resistance without an addition surface treatment. thus the decreasing production process has been obtained. 3. As hardness value of $H_{RB}$ 80 and tensile test, 434LD$_2$ ferrite stainless steel with show a good endurance when it is combined to constant velocity joint (c/v joint), and has a good hardness properties endurable to sand and pebble impact.

  • Electrical conductivity of Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloy foams of various density produced in powder metallurgical method has been measured using two probe electrical conductivity measurement method. Compressive mechanical properties such as elastic modulus and plastic plateau stress of foams were evaluated from electrical conductivity using power law relation and scaling laws of foam properties. Uni-axial compression test was also performed. Experimentally measured elastic modulus and plastic plateau stress were compared with the values evaluated from electrical conductivity. The computed values were in good agreement with the experimental result.

  • In this paper, experimental and numerical attempts are made fur application of powder metallurgy forming technology to making the cylinder block of a hydraulic pump of which height reaches nearly 70 mm and is ten times larger than the wall thickness. Leak tests with several compositions are carried out in order to find allowable powder composition to prevent leak under high pressure in service and CAE techniques are applied to finding proper process conditions. Through the research, the possibility of the powder formed cylinder block that is very competitive from the point of both cost and mass production has been shown, even though its thickness exceeds the recommended limit considering heterogeneous density distribution caused by the friction between a powder compact and dies.

  • Lithium (Li) is a key resource driving the rapid growth of the electric vehicle industry globally, with demand and prices continually on the rise. To address the limited reserves of major lithium sources such as rock and brine, research is underway on seawater Li extraction using electrodialysis and Li-ion selective membranes. Lithium lanthanum titanate (LLTO), an oxide solid electrolyte for all-solid-state batteries, is a promising Li-ion selective membrane. An important factor in enhancing its performance is employing the powder synthesis process. In this study, the LLTO powder is prepared using two synthesis methods: sol-gel reaction (SGR) and solid-state reaction (SSR). Additionally, the powder size and uniformity are compared, which are indices related to membrane performance. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy are employed for determining characterization, with crystallite size analysis through the full width at half maximum parameter for the powders prepared using the two synthetic methods. The findings reveal that the powder SGR-synthesized powder exhibits smaller and more uniform characteristics (0.68 times smaller crystal size) than its SSR counterpart. This discovery lays the groundwork for optimizing the powder manufacturing process of LLTO membranes, making them more suitable for various applications, including manufacturing high-performance membranes or mass production of membranes.

Aluminum Powder Metallurgy Current Status, Recent Research and Future Directions

  • The increasing interest in light weight materials coupled to the need for cost -effective processing have combined to create a significant opportunity for aluminum P/M. particularly in the automotive industry in order to reduce fuel emissions and improve fuel economy at affordable prices. Additional potential markets for Al PIM parts include hand tools. Where moving parts against gravity represents a challenge; and office machinery, where reciprocating forces are important. Aluminum PIM adds light weight, high compressibility. low sintering temperatures. easy machinability and good corrosion resistance to all advantages of conventional iron bm;ed P/rv1. Current commercial alloys are pre-mixed of either the AI-Si-Mg or AL-Cu-Mg-Si type and contain 1.5% ethylene bis-stearamide as an internal lubricant. The powder is compacted in closed dies at pressure of 200-500Mpa and sintered in nitrogen at temperatures between $580~630^{\circ}C$ in continuous muffle furnace. For some applications no further processing is required. although most applications require one or more secondary operations such as sizing and finishing. These sccondary operations improve the dimension. properties or appearance of the finished part. Aluminum is often considered difficult to sinter because of the presence of a stable surface oxide film. Removal of the oxide in iron and copper based is usually achieved through the use of reducing atmospheres. such as hydrogen or dissociated ammonia. In aluminum. this occurs in the solid st,lte through the partial reduction of the aluminum by magncsium to form spinel. This exposcs the underlying metal and facilitates sintering. It has recently been shown that < 0.2% Mg is all that is required. It is noteworthy that most aluminum pre-mixes contain at least 0.5% Mg. The sintering of aluminum alloys can be further enhanced by selective microalloying. Just 100ppm pf tin chnnges the liquid phase sintering kinetics of the 2xxx alloys to produce a tensile strength of 375Mpa. an increilse of nearly 20% over the unmodified alloy. The ductility is unnffected. A similar but different effect occurs by the addition of 100 ppm of Pb to 7xxx alloys. The lend changes the wetting characteristics of the sintering liquid which serves to increase the tensile strength to 440 Mpa. a 40% increase over unmodified aIloys. Current research is predominantly aimed at the development of metal matrix composites. which have a high specific modulus. good wear resistance and a tailorable coefficient of thermal expnnsion. By controlling particle clustering and by engineering the ceramic/matrix interface in order to enhance sintering. very attractive properties can be achicved in the ns-sintered state. I\t an ils-sintered density ilpproaching 99%. these new experimental alloys hnve a modulus of 130 Gpa and an ultimate tensile strength of 212 Mpa in the T4 temper. In contest. unreinforcecl aluminum has a modulus of just 70 Gpa.
