Major Characteristics Affecting Popping Volume of Popcorn (튀김옥수수의 튀김부피에 영향을 미치는 주요특성)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the major characters affecting the popping volume of popcorn. Tuygimok 1 (Kp1 ${\times}$ Kp2) and 8 popcorn hybrids' agronomic characters were tested to evaluate a certain extent how much they affect on the popping volume. Moisture con-tent was considered as the most important factor, but failed to evaluate the optimum moisture con-tent level in this experiment moisture range (12.2-14.4%) because popping volume increased as moisture content of kernels increased. The maximum popping volume was obtained at 55-60kg of kernel hardness, 80-90,um of pericarp thickness and 45-50% of S/H (Soft/Hard starch). But the Em/En(Embryo/Endosperm) ratio was negatively associated with the popping volume. Therefore the minimum popping volume was observed at the 10-11 % of Em/En ratio. Moisture content, hardness, pericarp thickness, Em/En and S/H ratio were selected as the appropriate variables for the maxi-mum popping volume using the stepwise forward regression method and the expecting popping volume was estimated by the multiple linear regression formular. The mean popping volume of ninepopcorn hybrids was about 29.2cm3/g.

Effect of Scindapsus aureus and Syngonium podophyllum on the Improvement in Indoor Humidity by a Difference of Hydoroculture Volume Ratio and Pot Media (하이드로컬쳐 부피비와 화분용토에 따른 스킨답서스, 싱고늄의 실내습도 개선효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to utilize hydroculture by the vital means of the improvement of indoor relative humidity. This experiment employed a search of the effect of Scindapsus aureus and Syngonium podophyllum that are generalized for hydroculture foliage plant by a difference of volume ratio, pot media and plants species. In the case of Scindapsus aureus, relative humidity was high for growth chamber in which plants presented as opposed to control growth chambers in which there were no plants. Although relative humidity was 25% in control chamber, there was an increase of 40% at a 2% volume ratio, 45% at a 3% volume ratio and 50% at a 5% volume ratio. The relative humidity of Syngonium podophyllum was 40% at a 2% volume ratio, 44% at a 3% volume ratio and 46% at a 5% volume ratio, while the control treatment was 25% relative humidity in hydroculture. Both the control treatment and hydroball pot in a hydroball container were high at first. As time progressed, artificial soil pots in water containers was similar when housed within the control chamber by about 45% relative humidity. Hydroball pots in water container had about 30% relative humidity. Ardisia pusilla of hydroball poIt in hydroball container had about 38% relative humidity.

Effect of Substituting Coal Fly Ash of Sawdust as a Bulking Agent for Swine Waste Composting (석탄회(石炭灰)(Coal fly ash)의 양돈분뇨처리(養豚糞尿處理) 부자재(副資材) 대체이용(代替利用)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This study was carried out to investigate how much coal fly ash could be substituted for sawdust as a bulking agent for livestock waste composting. The mixtures of coal fly ash and sawdust in the weight ratio of 8 to 2, 7 to 3, 6 to 4, 5 to 5, 4 to 6, 3 to 7 and 2 to 8 were added to livestock waste as the bulking agent. The same amount of the bulking agents and livestock waste was mixed and composted during 21 days. Following effects were analyzed during composting experiment : the variation of temperature, pH and various compound contents. The results were summarized as follows: The more the sawdust was added, the higher the maximum temperature in slurry type livestock farm but faster it reached in scrapper type. Water content was maintained under good condition by adding the bulking agent mixed of the same amount of coal fly ash and sawdust. pH was in the range of 7~10 by adding the bulking agent mixed of the same amount of coal fly ash and sawdust. The more the sawdust was added, the higher organic matter content was measured. Nitrogen content with increasing the amount of sawdust added but it was higher did not showed any tendency Organic matter/Nitrogen ratio reduced during the composting period in scrapper type but it showed contrary tendency in slurry type with that of scrapper type.

Volumetric Estimation of the Prostate Gland using Computed Tomography in Normal Beagle Dogs (정상 비글견에서 컴퓨터단층촬영술을 이용한 전립선의 부피 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine and compare prostate size using ultrasound and computed tomography (CT). The prostate gland was evaluated in eight normal Beagle dogs. Length, depth, and width of the prostate gland were measured by ultrasound and volume of the prostate was obtained from the two ellipsoid formula (US1, US2). Height, length, width, area, and volume of the prostate gland were measured by CT. Ratios of prostatic height, length, and width to the sixth lumbar vertebral body length were calculated. There was no significant difference between the US1 and US2 method, and between US2 and CT method, respectively. The prostatic volume calculated by US1 method was significantly lower than those with CT (p=0.029). The Upper limits of ratios of prostate length, height, and width to the length of the sixth lumbar vertebra were 1.3, 1.1, and 1.7, respectively. Among these prostate dimensions, prostate length and height could be a useful index in estimating prostate size regardless of body weight.

Repeated Fed-Batch Fermentation of Wheat Flour Solution by Mixed Lactic Acid Bacteria (혼합 젖산균을 이용한 밀가루 용액의 반복 유가식 발효)

  • Effect of culture conditions on the fermentation of wheat flour solution by mixed lactic acid bacteria of Lactobacillus brevis, L. fermentum and L. plantarum was investigated. The optimum temperature for the fermentation of wheat flour solution was $35^{\circ}C$ because pH decreased the lowest value and TTA (total titrable acidity) increased the highest value at this temperature. In aerobic condition, fermentor was purged with air at 1.0 vvm and was purged with nitrogen gas at 1.0 vvm in anaerobic condition. The decrease of pH and the increase of TTA in aerobic condition were higher than those in anaerobic condition. In aerobic condition, the optimum condition of oxygen supply was found to be oxygen transfer rate coefficient of $60\;hr^{-1}$ which corresponded to agitation speed of 250 rpm in a 5 L fermentor. Repeated fed-batch cultures were performed using pH-stat in order to increase the productivity of fermented wheat flour. With increasing the repeated fraction of culture volume, mean cycle time increased but maximum operation time decreased. However, the volume of produced broth per culture volume per time and total volume of produced broth per culture volume were maximum at the repeated fraction of culture volume of 20%. In a repeated fed-batch fermentation of wheat flour solution using mixed lactic acid bacteria, the culture condition was optimum at temerature of $35^{\circ}C$, aeration rate of 1.0 vvm, oxygen transfer rate coefficient of $60\;hr^{-1}$, and repeated fraction of culture volume of 20%.

CuS/ZnO 이종 나노구조의 합성과 광촉매로의 응용 및 특성평가

  • 나노선은 대표적인 일차원 나노구조로 높은 부피-표면적 비율과, 조절 가능한 밴드갭 에너지, 뛰어난 광학적/전기적 특성으로 인해 다양한 잠재적 응용처를 가지며, 많이 연구되고 있다. 특히 ZnO 나노선은 대표적인 광촉매로, 높은 감광성과 높은 부피-표면적 비율 등의 특징을 가지지만, 상대적으로 넓은 밴드갭 에너지 때문에 가시광선 영역을 사용하지 못하는 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 CuS 나노입자/ZnO 나노선 이종구조를 간단한 두 가지의 방법으로 합성하였다. ZnO 나노선은 간단한 수열합성 방법으로 합성하였고, 그 위에 CuS 나노입자를 successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) 방법으로 증착하였다. 합성된 나노 구조는 기존의 ZnO 구조와는 달리 가시광 영역에서도 향상된 광촉매 특성을 보였으며, 이는 ZnO와 CuS사이의 interfacial charge transfer (IFCT)에서 기인한 것이다. SEM, TEM, XRD를 통해 CuS/ZnO 이종구조의 형태와 결정구조, 구성성분을 분석할 수 있었고, Acid Orange 7의 광분해 실험을 통해 향상된 광촉매 특성을 확인 할 수 있었다.

심근경색 병변에 따른 심실의 전기역학적 특성 분석

  • 이 연구의 목적은 심근경색의 발생 위치와 그 부피에 따른 심실의 여러 가지 생리학적인 특성들을 분석하는 데에 있다. 우리는 심근경색의 발생 사례를 총 8가지로 분류하여 각 병변의 발생 위치와 부피를 달리 하였으며 대조군으로 정상 상태의 심장을 두어 기준 값으로부터 각 사례 별로 전체 심장 대비 심근경색 부위가 차지하는 비율, 압력-부피 선도, 1회 박출량(SV), 분당 심박출량(CO), ATP 소모율, 박출 효율(EF), 1주기의 1ATP 당 소모한 일의 양(SW/ATP) 등을 조사하였다. 또한 본 연구는 심근경색의 발생 위치와 부피에 따른 이의 심각성을 나타내고자 했기 때문에, 각 사례 별로 압력-부피 선도, 들의 변화율 및 세포가 괴사한 정도에 따른 수치 변화율을 퍼센트(%)로 표시하여 그 정도를 조사하였다. 심근경색을 가진 심장은 그렇지 않은 심장에 비해서, ATP 소모량이나 EF의 경우 각 사례 마다 상이한 결과를 가지기는 하지만, 대체적으로 더 적은 1주기 일량(SW) 및 1회 박출량(SV) 분포를 보였으며 SW/ATP의 값은 거의 일괄적으로 감소하였음을 확인하였는데, 이는 심실의 효율이 정상 심장에 비해서 떨어졌음을 의미한다. 결과적으로, 본 연구는 심근경색의 생리학적 특징들을 재확인함과 동시에 임상적으로 확인할 수 없는 특징들의 수학적인 분석과 더불어 심근경색의 공간 특징적인 현상들을 밝히고 있다.

Cosmetic Packaging Design using Cosmetic Container's Volume Index (화장품용기 부피 지수를 이용한 화장품 포장 설계)

  • In this study, we developed cosmetic container's volume index to compare the packaging volumes of fundamental cosmetic types. Over 250 cosmetics used for this study were collected in Korean market. The written content volume and the outer volume of packaging were analyzed to establish volume index (Lcos) and a design guideline for cosmetic container. The allowable ranges, such as maximum, acceptable, and optimum ranges in the design process, were also determined using Lcos. About 37% of cosmetics were in optimum or acceptable ranges. A 15% of cosmetic packages was in maximum range for reducing their volumes. This cosmetic container's volume index may be a useful tool as a design guideline for cosmetic packaging development.

Preparation and Characterization of Gluten-free Muffins Using Fractured Tofu and Normal Corn Starch (파지두부와 옥수수전분을 이용한 글루텐 프리 머핀의 제조와 특성)

  • This study investigated the effects of the mixing ratio of tofu paste and normal corn starch on the characteristics of gluten-free (GF) muffins. Soft wheat flour for wheat flour-based muffins (control) was replaced with the mixture of tofu paste and normal corn starch (NCS). The mixing ratios of tofu paste and NCS were 1:6.4 (S100), 1:5.1 (S80), 1:3.8 (S60), 1:2.6 (S40), 1:1.3 (S20), and 1:0 (S00), based on their total solid contents. GF muffins of S40-S100 developed the porous, sponge-like structure without crumb collapse. The weight and baking loss did not significantly differ in the control and GF muffins. By decreasing NCS in GF muffin batters, the moisture content, firmness, and crumb redness/yellowness of GF muffins increased, while their volume, specific volume, and crumb lightness decreased. Nevertheless, these characteristics (except for firmness) of S100 were much closer to those of the control. In the preference test, however, S60 (possessing lower attributes than S100 and S80) was most favored among GF muffins, and was very similar in all evaluations (except for appearance) to the control. Overall, the mixture of tofu paste and NCS would be a potential material to replace soft wheat flour in muffins.
