  • For evaluating basic structural behavior of HVFA (High Volume Fly Ash) concrete, several tests are performed considering different ratios of fly ash replacement and structural evaluation regarding compressive strength, elasticity modulus, stress-strain relationship, and bond strength is also performed. Test results show that elasticity modulus of HVFA concrete has close relationships with compressive strength and fly ash replacement ratio. The ultimate strain shows slight difference from domestic design code. On the other hand, there are no differences between general concrete and HVFA concrete for elasticity modulus and bond strength.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear strengthening effectiveness of the beams strengthened with near surface mounted (NSM) and external bonded (EB) CFRP strips. A total of nine concrete beams were made and tested. From this study, it was found that the shear stiffness and strength of the beams strengthened with NSM and EB strips were significantly improved compared to the control beam. Failure of the beam strengthened with NSM and EB strips was initiated by shear cracks, propagated diagonally to the adjacent epoxy grooves without crossing the epoxy and finally sudden diagonal crack connecting the point of application of load and flexural crack was occurred. For the beam strengthened combined with NSM and EB CFRP strips, the tensile strains in the NSM CFRP strips were observed in the range of 0.35% to 0.45% and strains with EB strips were measured about 0.3%.

  • In this study, to evaluate the mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced cement composites by strain rate, hydraulic rapid loading test system was developed. And compressive and tensile strength of the hooked steel fiber and polyamide fiber reinforced cement composite were evaluated. As a result, the compressive strength, strain capacity and elastic modulus were increased with increasing strain rate. The effect of compressive strength by type and volume fraction of fibers was not significant. The dynamic increase factor(DIF) of the compressive strength was higher than that of the CEB-FIP model code 2010 and showed a trend similar to that of ACI-349. The tensile strength and strain capacity were increased with increasing strain rate. The hooked steel fibers were drawn from the matrix. The tensile strength and strain capacity of hooked steel fiber reinforced cement composites were increased as the strain rate increased. The tensile strength and deformation capacity of the fiber reinforced cement composites were increased. And, hooked steel fibers were drawn from the matrix. On the other hand, because the bonding properties of polyamide fiber and matrix is large, polyamide fiber was cut-off with out pullout from matrix. The strain rate effect on the tensile properties of polyamide fiber reinforced cement composites was found to be strongly affected by the tensile strength of the fibers.

  • The paper deals with the rupture strain estimation of fiber sheets. The experimental study involved tensile testing of 120 fiber sheet specimens and bending testing of 72 concrete beams strengthened with various types of fiber sheets(carbon, glass, and aramid fiber). Concrete beams have 3 types of reinforcement ratios. Rupture strains of fiber sheet specimens are determined by tensile tests to be a little less than the tensile failure strain by the catalog, independently on the number of fiber sheet layers. It is shown that the rupture strain of fiber sheet bonded to reinforced concrete beam is not constant, but decreases as the fiber sheet layer increases. Based on these results, the rupture fiber sheet strain is estimated.

  • Although researches on the beams strengthened with Fiber reinforced Polymers (FRPs) have recently been conducted around the world, there are few researches on the beams with FRPs under a sustained load. This paper presents the behavior of the beams with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymers (GFRP) under a sustained load during 300 days. Strains of steel and FRP reinforcement were measured in order to investigate the behavior of the beams. Additionally, Adjusted Effective Modulus Method (AEMM) and Ghali and Farve's method were used to predict increase in the stress and strain caused by creep and shrinkage. Through the experiment, it was found that the beam with CFRP is more effective than the beam with GFRP in terms of flexural strengthening. Compared with analytical results, it was indicated that strains of tension steels were overestimated, whereas strains of compression steels were underestimated.

  • In the recent construction industry, an external strengthening method using fiber reinforced polymers has been widely used. Since reinforced concrete structures strengthened with fiber reinforced polymers are always under sustained loads, influence of creep and shrinkage on the structures is inevitable. Due to the creep and shrinkage, behaviors of the structures, such as deflection, deformation, recovery capability, strength and so on are also under the influence of creep and shrinkage. Thus, in order to estimate efficacy, creep recovery and residual strength of FRP strengthened RC beams, long-term flexural experiments and static flexural experiments were carried out. As the result of the experiments, FRP strengthened RC beams were very effective in terms of deflection control. Furthermore, the strengthened beams had higher immediate deformation recovery than immediate deformation. Through the static flexural experiments, it was shown that the CFRP strengthened beam had high residual strength. It seems that the sustained loads did not affect bond and residual strength of the beams.

  • The development of adhesive dentistry has allowed that the crown fragment reattachment can be another option in the treatment of crown fracture. However, additional crown lengthening procedure or extrusion of the tooth may be necessary in the treatment of crown root fracture because subgingival fracture line in close proximity to the alveolar bone leads to challenges for restorative procedure and the violation of the biologic width. This case report presents a modified crown fragment reattachment technique of crown root fracture with pulp exposure, which was done without additional crown lengthening procedures. After the endodontic treatment, the patient was treated using a post insertion and the fragment reattachment technique, which made it possible to preserve the space for the biologic width and maintain a dry surgical field for adequate adhesion through the modification of the fractured coronal fragment. Since a coronal fracture was occurred and reattached afterward, it was observed that the coronal fragment was well maintained without the additional loss of periodontal attachment through 2-year follow up.
