  • Crack is a penetration path of harmful material such as chloride ion, and causes a serious deterioration in durability. So, the characteristics of chloride penetration are investigated for the cracked flexural concrete members using high-durable materials. For these, the flexural crack of beam specimen is introduced by transverse loading. And, Rapid Chloride Penetration Test (RCPT) and Long-term chloride penetration test are carried out to compare the chloride penetration depth. From test results when crack is happened, the chloride penetration resistance of the durable member was superior than that of the normal member. Blast furnace slag concrete member has a excellent chloride penetration resistance in long-term chloride penetration test.

  • This study presents an effective stiffness-based optimal technique to control quantitatively lateral drift for tall frameworks using composit member subject to lateral loads. To this end, displacement sensitivity depending on behavior characteristics of tall frameworks is established and approximation concept that preserves the generality of the mathematical programming and can efficiently solve large scale problems is introduced. Specifically, under the 'constant-shape' assumption, resizing techniqe of composite member is developed. Two types of 50 story frameworks are presented to illustrate the features of the quantitative lateral drift control technique proposed in this study.

  • Following the previous paper, the results of test are further presented. As partially prestressed concrete members permit cracks under the service state, deflection and crack control of partially prestressed concrete members is more important than that of reinforced or fully prestressed concrete members. By the test results of load-deflection relation, it can be shown that prestressing ratio significantly affects the behavior of partially prestressed concrete beams. Deflection prediction formula of some codes are tried, and test results are compared with various fomulae of crack spacing and crack width.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to present both fundamental and some higher natural frequencies of catenary arcs. The differential equations governing planar free vibrations for these arcs are derived, in which the rotatory inertia is included, as non-dimensional forms and solved numerically to obtain frequencies and mode shapes. The hinged-hinged and clamped-clamped end constraints are applied in numerical examples. The lowest four natural frequencies are reported as the functions of non -dimensional system parameters; the slenderness ratio and the rise to span length ratio. The effects of rotatory inertia on natural frequencies are reported and some typical mode shapes are also presented.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to present an analytical method for free vibration of stepped horizontally curved members on two-parameter elastic foundation. The ordinary differential equations governing the free vibration of such beams are derived as non-dimensional forms including the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation. The governing equations are solved numerically for the circular, parabolic, sinusoidal and elliptic curved beams with hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped end constraints. As the numerical results, the lowest four natural frequency parameters are presented as the functions of various non-dimensional system parameters. Also the typical mode shapes are presented.

  • Generally, main girders and steel piers of temporary bridges form the steel rahmen structure. In this study, the rational stability design procedure for main members of temporary bridges was presented using a 3D system buckling analysis and second-order elastic analysis. Six types of temporary bridges, which can be designed and fabricated in reality, were chosen and the buckling design for them was performed in consideration ofload combinations of dead and live loads, thermal load, and wind load. Effective buckling length of steel piers, transition of 3D buckling modes, and effects of second-order analysis were investigated through a case study involving six temporary bridges.

  • A general formulation of the long cylinder tolerance design for the joint structure is here presented. The aim of this paper is to calculate the tolerance of joint by defining tolerance as a kind of uncertainty and to obtain the robustness of the joint structure. It is formulated on the bases of the minimum sensitivity theorem. The objective function is the tolerance sensitivity for the Von-Mises stress. It also took into full account the stress, displacement and weight constraints. PLBA(Pshenichny-Lim-Belegundu-Arora) algorithm is used to solve the constrained nonlinear optimization problem. The finite element analysis is performed with CST(Constant-Strain-Triangle) axisymmetric element. Sensitivities for design variables are calculated by the direct differentiation method. The numerical result is presented for the cylindrical structure where the joint tolerance is treated as random variables.

  • A numerical model considering the vapor pressure and the creep models, in the form of a analytical program, for tracing the behavior of high strength concrete (HSC) members exposed to fire is presented. The two stages, i.e., spalling procedure and fire resistance time, associated with the thermal, moisture flow, creep and structural analysis, for the prediction of fire resistance behavior are explained. The use of the analytical program for tracing the response of HSC member from the initial pre-loading stage to collapse, due to fire, is demonstrated. The validity of the numerical model used in this program is established by comparing the predictions from this program with results from others fire resistance tests. The analytical program can be used to predict the fire resistance of HSC members for any value of the significant parameters, such as load, sectional dimensions, member length, and concrete strength.

  • When a thin walled member is subjected to compression in a condition such as collision, the energy is mainly absorbed by axial crumpling. In this case, dynamic crushing strength of the member is increased due to the effects of strain-rate compared with the static strength, even though the inertia effect is neglected. In this paper, the method of predicting the static crushing for tubular members is presented using the kinematic method of plasticity. Since, a predicted crushing load, taking account of the dynamic yield stress, usually overestimates the effects of strain-rate, the average plastic flow stress for the effects of strain-rate is used to obtain the dynamic crushing load for tubular members. The analytical results are compared with the experiments published in references, and a good correlation is observed.

  • Recently nonlinear materials are used in construction of building and bridge then various structure formats are achieved positively. one of them, cable members, are the interesting study object which increase rigidity of a total structure by inducing tension. The way of construction using cable members is increasing, so the technology of design and construction are developing. Protection Fretting Fatigue is very important to maintain efficiency of cable member permanently. However, recognition of this is somewhat humble and this paper considers anti-corrosive performance of cable.
