Biomass Estimation of Phyllostachys pubescens Stands in KFRI, Southern Forest Research Center (맹종죽 시험림의 현존량 추정에 관한 연구)

  • For biomass estimation of Phyllostachys pubescens stands by optimal survey method we established 9 bamboo sample plots in the research forests of KFRI (Korea Forest Research Institute). The dry weight of culm segment determined by relative heights of total bamboo height show us two groups of 1st to 5th culm segment (up to 0~55% culm of tree height from the bottom area) and 6th to 8th culm segment (55~100%) by the results of cluster analysis for dry weight ratio. This results show that upper and lower part of 55~70% reference height from the bottom area against total culm height can be used in obtaining 1 kg of a sample bamboo, respectively, rather than 2.0 m stem segments of other forest tree species. In above-ground biomass estimation by $W=aD+bD^2$ having the highest coefficient of determination in this study, above ground stand biomass was 57.77 ton/ha (culm 40.47 ton/ha, branch 9.29 ton/ha, and leaf 8.01 ton/ha) of which 70% was contributed by culm component followed by branch (16%) and leaf (14%). Below-ground biomass was 53.35 ton/ha in total.

Fabrication of the Noninvasive Tube Voltage Meter of Radiotherapy Simulator and Its Performance Analysis (방사선치료 시뮬레이터의 비접속형관전압계 제작과 성능분석)

  • In this study, we have fabricated the noninvasive tube voltage meter which can observe the waveform of tube voltage and measure the tube voltage by using the Intensity of X-ray beam irradiated from radiotherapy simulator and also investigated the feasibility for clinical applications. Two pin photodiodes acting as X-ray detectors were arranged in parallel at the position of ${\pm}1.4cm$ in the y-axis of X-ray field and the aluminum filters with different thickness were placed above them. Using this detector, we could get the ratio ($r_{eff}$) of the relative output voltage which is proportional to the thickness of the filters. And the logarithm of effective peak tube voltage ($InkV_{p,eff}$) was obtained by Victoreen's NERO 6000M used as reference tube voltage meter. From the linear regression analysis of $r_{eff}$ and In $kV_{p,eff}$ the correlation coefficient (r) of linear equation was obtained to be 0.996 for the calibration of the tube voltage meter. Therefore, we suggest that the noninvasive tube voltage meter fabricated in this study can be used for clinical applications due to Its high accuracy.

The Effect of Shear Direction on the Behavior of the Post-earthquake Settlement of GBFS (반복전단 방향의 영향에 따른 GBFS의 지진후 침하 거동)

  • In this study, in order to clarify the effect of the direction of cyclic shear on the post-earthquake settlement the multi-directional shear tests were carried out for Toyoura Japan standard sand, Genkai natural sand, Kaolinite and the Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBFS). The diameter and the height of the specimen are 75 mm and 20 mm, respectively. In a series of tests, the number of strain cycles was adjusted as n=5, 20, 30, 100, 200 and the shear strain amplitudes were varied from 0.1% to 1.0%. The relative densities of each samples were also adjusted as Dr=50, 60 and 70%. From the test results for Toyoura sand and GBFS, it is clarified that the post-earthquake settlement is relatively large at the small relative density and becomes large with the shear strain amplitude. When the influence of difference on the direction of cyclic shear decreases, the post-earthquake settlement strain for Toyoura sand is converged to a constant value, but the GBFS increases with the number of strain cycles. In addition, the post-earthquake settlement is in the order of Kaolinite > Toyoura sand > Genkai sand > GBFS.

Studies on Growth and Biomass Production of Abies koreana Seedlings under Different Relative Light Intensity (상대광도 차이에 따른 구상나무 유묘의 생장과 물질생산에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the growth and biomass production of Abies koreana seedlings under different relative light intensity. The 5-year-old potted seedlings were grown for 24 months under different light intensity of 100%, 50%, 30%, 10% and 2% of the natural full light intensity. The results were as follows: 1. Height growth was similar in the seedlings under different light intensities except in 2% of the full sun light intensity, having shown the lowest height growth. 2. Root collar diameter growth was reduced gradually by decreasing of the relative light intensity. 3. The seedlings which were grown under relatively low light intensity showed the later starting date of the stem growth in the next spring and showed the smaller number of new needles, and the smarter number and the shorter length of new shoot of the seedlings. 4. Total dry mass including the dry mass of leaves, shoot and root was reduced by decreasing of the relative light intensity. 5. In case of the seedling grown in one year shading condition, the ratio of the dry mass of current-year needles and stem to that of the above one-year-old needles and stem was ranged from 0.99$\pm$0.25 to 1.06$\pm$0.06 and was not significally different among the seedlings grown under 100%, 50% and 30% of the relative light intensity. And the radio was ranged from 0.60$\pm$0.04 to 0.52$\pm$0.03 in the seedlings grown under 10% and 2% of the relative light intensity, respectively. In case of the seedling grown in two years shading, the ratio of the dry mass of current-year needles and stem to that of the above one-year-old needles and stem was ranged from 0.79$\pm$0.04 to 1.00$\pm$0.03 and was not significally different among the seedlings grown under 100, 50, 30% and 10% of the relative light intensity. And the ratio was 0.29$\pm$0.03 in the seedlings grown under 2% of the relative light intensity, respectively. 6. T/R ratio of the seedlings grown in one year shading condition was ranged from 3.35$\pm$0.33 to 4.61$\pm$0.25 and was not significantly different among the relative light intensities of 100%, 50%, 30% and 10%. The seedlings grown under 2% of relative light intensity showed the highest T/R ratio of 7.36$\pm$0.15. In case of the two years shadings the T/R ratio was ranged from 1.76$\pm$0.11 to 3.12$\pm$0.19 and increased as relative light intensity decreased except 2.01$\pm$0.14 in 2% of relative light intensity.

Studies on Fertilizer-Managements and Growth Analysis in the Rejuvenating Bamboo Grove (회복도상(回復途上)에 있는 참대림(林)의 비배(肥培)와 생장해석(生長解析)에 관(関)한 연구(硏究))

  • The growth characteristics and appropriate fertilizer-managements in the rejuvenating bamboo grove were studied with Phyllostachys reticulata. The bamboo soil was the sandy loam with rich humus. In the fertilized plots, the N-fertilizer was significantly absorbed, and it was necessary to fertilize the K-fertilizer continuously. According to the development of rejuvenating after flowering, the temperature and relative illumination became lower. while the moisture became higher. The relationship between the diameter at eye height (D) and the culm length (H) of each bamboo can be expressed as follow; $H=2.5538D^{0.5031}$ The leaf area is the major factor for the production of the bamboo grove. Therefore in the rejuvenating grove, we should refrain form pruning or felling of not -flowering bamboo. The theoretical distribution of the internodal length was obtained by the distribution curve line of the internodal length derived from the regular distribution curve line. Relatively long and even internodal length was found in the fertilized plots 2 and 4. The relation between $D^2H$ and dry weight of culm or dry weight of the above ground part were given by linear regression in both relations respectively on the logarithmic coordinates, but the propertional relation was not established in these relations. The biomass of the above ground part obtained by the allometry method showed high values in the fertilized plots 2.5 and 6. The appropriate amounts of the three elements, N, P and K for the maximum dry matter were 24.19, 15.51, 8.63 kg/10a, respectively.

A Study on the Flexural Behavior of Plate Girder Bridge Decks Using a Macro-Element (매크로 요소를 사용한 판형교 바닥판의 휨거동 해석)

  • Current specification prescribes that upper and lower reinforcement mat is required in the same amount to resist negative and positive moment in bridge decks. But the negative moment is much smaller than positive moment because the actual behavior of decks consists of local deflection of slab and global deflection of girder. From this study, the analysis method based on harmonic analysis and slope-deflection method was developed and verified by finite element method. The negative moment, obtained from this method, were smaller than those computed based on the KHBDC specifications as much as 40∼50% in the middle of bridge. The amount of reduction of the design negative moment was shown herein to be dependent on variable parameters as shape factor(S/L) of slab, relative stiffness ratio of girder and deck slab, and so on. This investigations indicate that the upper reinforcement mat to resist negative moment can be removed. But further experimental study is required to consider durability and serviceability. From this new design concept, the construction expense can be reduced and the problem of decreasing durability resulting from corrosion of upper reinforcement steel settled.

Analysis on Reactions of Full-Scale Airframe Static Structural Test (항공기 전기체 정적구조시험의 반력 분석)

  • This study addresses analysis on reactions which are induced in restraint system for airframe full-scale static structural test. This system restraints 6 degrees of freedom of a test article. It is valuable to study evaluating test error through analysis on the reactions which include all errors in a test. It is required to calculate fistly right reactions for the evaluation. This study focuses on calculation of the right reactions. The reaction is represented by sum of nominal reaction(Rn) and testing error reactions(Rce, Rerr) and is analyzed by two steps (inital vs relative reaction) in this study. It would evaluate intrinsic error at 0%DLL and error induced from applying test load, separately. Based on analysis using test data of a full-scale static test(canard type aircraft), resultant force of Rces and Rce_rs are distributed within 82.8N while resultant force of Rerr_rs shows to increase upto max. 808N as load level increment. Such well distribution of the Rce within the small range is caused from TMF values characteristics which are well distributed within -30N~40N. Additionally, it is shown through qualitative analysis on three components(X0, Y0, Z0) of the relative reaction(Rerr_r) that the reactions must be calculated with considering deformation of test article to calculate correctly reactions. This study shows also that equations characterizing deformation of components of test article are required to calculate the correct reactions, the equations must include information which will be used to calculate movement of all loading points.

  • Effect of Cd, Pb, and Zn content in soil on their accumulation in rice was studied by analyzing brown rice(93) and soil samples(180) collected from paddy soils near old zinc-mining sites in 1979 and 1980. Ratio of Cd, Pb, and Zn in brown rice to soil decreased with the increase of their contents in soil and found to be linear function of the inversed values of their contents in soil. Contents of Cd, Pb, and Zn in brown rice harvested in 1980 were lower than those in 1979. The significant difference in contents of Pb and Zn between two years might be attributed to weather. Air temperature and duration of sunshine in 1980 were significantly lower than those in 1979.

  • We performed the same day dipyridamole stress/rest myocardial SPECT in 14 healthy young men, reconstructed the polar maps according to Cedars-Sinai method and quantitated the radioactivity of myocardial wall. We divided the whole myocardium to 9 sectors. The latero-anterior wall contains the highest count. The infero-septal wall contains the lowest count. There isn't any significant differences of radioactivity in each segment between stress and rest polar map. The hemodynamic parameters after dipyridamole injection in the subjects were significantly changed except systolic blood pressure : the heart rate was increased and diastolic blood pressure was decreased. Adverse effects were reported in 85.7%. We suggest that these data can be used to dectect perfusion defect in the coromary artery disease.

The Climatology of Perceived Sultriness in South Korea (남한의 체감 무더위의 기후학)

  • This study examined temporal and spatial patterns of bioclimatic perceived sultriness in South Korea by analyzing the climatology of heat index calculated from ambient temperature and relative humidity for the period of 26 years (1973-1998). As results, spatially, bioclimatic sultriness above all thresholds frequently occurred mainly in the central western inner area, the southwestern inner area, and the southeastern inner area of South Korea. Especially, Miryang in the southeastern inner area of South Korea was proved to be, bioclimatically, the sultriest area in South Korea that has recorded frequent high heat index. Temporally, frequency of sultriness in the contiguous South Korea significantly increased in the 1990s. Specifically, In 1994, frequencies of heat index exceeding each threshold was the highest all over South Korea. Normally, the sultriness with high heat index exceeding 40.6$^{circ}C$ occurred mainly for the period of between the end of July generally after Summer Changma and the beginning of August before another small rainy season of years. These temporal-spatial distributions of bioclimatic sultriness in South Korea showed various patterns regionally, affected by physical and anthropogenic climatic factors such as topography, latitude, altitude, water bodies or aforestration, urbanization, and industrialization as well as movements of large-scale air masses.
