  • Classification is to generate a rule of classifying objects into several categories based on the learning sample. Good classification model should classify new objects with low misclassification error. Many types of classification methods have been developed including logistic regression, discriminant analysis and tree. This paper presents a new classification method using penalized partial least squares. Penalized partial least squares can make the model more robust and remedy multicollinearity problem. This paper compares the proposed method with logistic regression and PCA based discriminant analysis by some real and artificial data. It is concluded that the new method has better power as compared with other methods.

  • The objectives of this study were to develop models to predict the contents of moisture and protein of single kernel of brown rice based on visible/NIR (near-infrared) spectroscopic technique. The reflectance spectra of rice were obtained in the range of the wavelength 400 to 2,500 nm with 2 nm intervals. Multiple linear regression(MLR) and partial least squares (PLS) were used to develop the models. The MLR model using the first derivative spectra(10 nm of gap) with Standard Normal Variate and Detrending (SNV and Drt.) preprocessing showed the best results to predict moisture content of the sin린e kernel brown rice. To predict the protein content of a single kernel of brown ricer the PLS model used the raw spectra with multiplicative scatter correction(MSC) preprocessing over the wavelength of 1,100~1,500 nm.

  • This study investigates the effects of entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility (CSR) on firm performance. I use the conditional quantile regression as well as the ordinary least square (OLS) with 300 samples, only medium and small size companies. I found firstly, entrepreneurship affected overall positively firm performance in the all quantile levels. Secondly, CSR also have a positive impact on firm performance in the overall all quantile levels. By these results, I recommend that entrepreneurship and CSR should a positive impact on the firm performance for the small and medium business companies.

  • As the purpose of the breakdown prediction of three degradation of insulating materials caused by partial discharge occurring at various defects in the polymer insulator itself and at the interfaces between electrodes and the insulating materials. Treeing due to partial discharge os one of the main causes of breakdown of the insulating materials. Recently, the necessity of establishing the way to diagnoses the aging of insulation materials and to predict of insulation breakdown become improtant. The purpose of our work are to use acoustic emission System and fractal dimension and to investigated the treeing phenomena in polymeric insulation under appliec AC voltage 11[kV] with an artificial needleshaped void(1.5[mm]) using the above system.

  • A least-square regression analysis is applied for the estimation of velocity streamfunction field based on discretely sampled current meter data. The coefficients of a streamfuunction that is expanded in terms of trigonometric basis function are obtained by enforcing the horizontal non-divergence of two-dimensional flow field. This method avoids Interpolation and gives a root-mean-square (rms) residual of fit which Includes the divergent part and noisiness of oceanic data. The Implementation of the method Is done by employing a boundary-fitted, curvilinear orthogonal coordinate which facilitates the specification of boundary conditions. An application is successfully made to the Texas-Louisiana shelf using the 32 months current meter data (31 moorings) observed as a part of the Texas-Louisiana Shelf and Transport Processes Study (LATEX). The rms residual of the fitting is relatively small for the shelf, which indicates the field Is Ivell represented by the streamnfunction.

  • A spectrophotometric method for the simultaneous determination of anionic and nonionic surfactant based on the application of multivariate calibration method such as principal component regression(PCR) and partial least squares(PLS) has been studied. The calibration models in PCR and PLS were obtained from the spectral data in the range of 400~700 nm for each standard of a calibration set of 26 standards, each containing different amounts of two surfactants. The relative standard error of prediction(RSEP$_{\alpha}$) was obtained to assess the model goodness in quantifying each analyte in a 5 validation samples which containing different amounts of two surfactants.

  • A spectrofluorimetric method for the simultaneous determination of amino acids (tryptophan and tyrosine) based on the application of multivariate calibration method such as principal component regression and partial least squares (PLS) to luminescence measurements has been studied. Emission spectra of synthetic mixtures of two amino acids were obtained at excitation wavelength of 257 ㎚. The calibration model in PCR and PLS was obtained from the spectral data in the range of 280-500 ㎚ for each standard of a calibration set of 32 standards, each containing different amounts of two amino acids. The relative standard error of prediction ($RSEP_a$) was obtained to assess the model goodness in quantifying each analyte in a validation set. The overall relative standard error of prediction ($RSEP_m$) for the mixture obtained from the results of a validation set, formed by 6 independent mixtures was also used to validate the present method.

  • The objective of this research was to develop model equations for measuring rice milling ratio by using visible / HIR spectroscopy. Twelve kinds of brown rice(n = 149) were milled to obtain various milling ratio ranged from 86% to 94%. Visible/NIR spectra were collected with a spectrophotometer with sample transport module. The reflectance and transmission spectra were measured in the range of 400~2, 500nm and 600~1, 400nm, respectively, with 2 nm intervals. Multiple linear regression(MLR), Partial least square (PLS), and Artificial neural network(ANN) were used to develop models. Model developed with reflectance spectra showed better prediction results then those with transmission spectra. The MLR model with six-wavelength obtained from first derivative spectra gave to the best results for measuring the rice milling ratio(SEP = 0.535, , $r^2$ = 0.980). The PLS model(SEP = 0.604, $r^2$= 0.976) and ANN model(SEP = 0.566, $r^2$= 0.978) also can be used to determine the rice milling ratio effectively.

  • Influence of other blond components on measuring glucose concentration was analyzed B)food phantom containing five major components was made. The prediction model was developed based on the measurement of absorption spectra including the first overtone glucose band, i.e.. 1500 ∼ 1850 nm. The concentrations were Predicted using the Partial least squares regression. Factor analysis based on Design of Experiment was Performed to study the influence of other components in predicting glucose concentration. Triglyceride does not influence. Albumin and globulin haute minor effects. However, hemoglobin showed substantial response and the compensation of hemoglobin concentration appears to be required for the model of glucose measurement.
