This study attempted to understand how the communication efficiency of middle-aged couples affects marriage satisfaction and to verify the mediating effect of self-esteem. To this end, the results of analyzing the influence relationship between the variables by collecting questionnaire data on the variables of 421 middle-aged couples living in D city are as follows. First, it was confirmed that the communication efficiency, self-esteem, and marriage satisfaction of middle-aged couples had a positive relationship. Second, the partial mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between marriage satisfaction was verified by the communication efficiency of middle-aged couples. Based on these research results, an action plan to improve marriage satisfaction in the middle-aged part was suggested.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of marital communication, home management strategy and family life satisfaction, the data were obtained from 463 wives who lived lived in Seoul. The major findings were as follows: 1) The efficiency of marital communication showed a significant difference in their age, education level, work status, monthly income, number of children, internal-external controllabiltiy and perception of life level. 2) Time strategy and housework strategy were differed by their socidemo-graphic variables and psychological variables. But finance strategy was not affected by any variable. 3) Influential variables of family life satisfaction were the efficiency of marital communication, perception of life level and home management strategy.

The purpose of the present study was to suggest the efficient communication methods for improving the quality of marriage and life in the elderly couples. For this study we considered variables connected with the communication efficiency of elderly couples. We investigated 462 elderly men and women whose spouse is alive and Seoul and the National Capital region. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows. 1) The communication efficiency of elderly couples was over than middle level so we could find that they communicate efficiently. 2) The communication efficiency of elderly couples differs significantly according to sex, education level, economic condition, health status, family type, social activity, sociotropy Personality, self-esteem, internal-external controllability, marital intimacy, relative comparison in the level of living. 3) The communication efficiency of elderly couples was dependently affected by intimacy, economic status, relationship; this variables had 40% explanation for communication efficiency.
