  • It is known that it is expedient to represent the distribution of the properties of a bone with complex heterogeneity as B-spline volume functions. For B-spline-based representation, the pixel values of CT images are interpolated by B-spline volume functions. However, the CT images of a bone are three-dimensional and very large, and hence a large amount of memory and long computation time for the interpolation are required. In this study, a method for resolving these problems is proposed. In the proposed method, the B-spline volume interpolation problem is simplified by using the uniformity of pixel spacing of the image and the properties of B-spline basis functions. This results in a reduction in computation time and the amount of memory used. The proposed method was implemented and it was verified that the computation time and the amount of memory used were reduced.

  • This study presents a volume rendering method using ambient occlusion which is one of global illumination methods. By considering the volume density distribution as normal distribution, ambient occlusion can be calculated at real-time speed regardless of modification of opacity transfer function. We calculate and store the averages and standard deviations of densities in a block centered at each voxel in pre-processing time. In rendering process, we determine the illumination value by estimating the nearby opacity. We generalized theoretical model and generated better quality images improving our previous research. In detail, various shapes of transfer function can be used due to the proposed equation model. Moreover, we introduced a multi-range model to give nearer objects more weight. As the result, more realistic volume rendering image can be generated at real-time speed by mixing local and ambient occlusion shading.

  • In this paper, we compare our proposed method with previous methods for the volumetric image segmentation using level set. In order to obtain an exact segmentation, the region and boundary information of image object are used in our proposed speed function. The boundary information is defined by the gradient vector flow obtained from the gradient images and the region information is defined by Gaussian distribution information of pixel intensity in a region-of-interest for image segmentation. Also the regular term is used to remove the noise around surface. We show various experimental results of real medical volume images to verify the superiority of proposed method.

  • In medical visualization, volume visualization is widely used. Applying 3D images to diagnose requires high resolution and accurately implement visualization techniques are being researched accordingly. However, when a three-dimensional image volume visualization is implemented using volume data, aliasing will occur since using discrete data. Supersampling method, getting lots of samples, is used to reduce artifacts. One of the supersampling methods is Catmull-rom spline. This method calculates accurate interpolation value because it is easy to compute and pass through control points. But, Catmull-rom spline method occurs overshoot or undershoot in large gradient of pixel values. So, interpolated values are different from original signal. In this paper, we propose an adaptive adjusting weights interpolation method using Gaussian function. Proposed method shows that overshoot is reduced on the point has a large gradient and PSNR is higher than other interpolated image results.

  • According that most integral imaging techniques have used rectangular lens array, this integrated distribution of light is recorded in the form of a rectangular grid. However, hexagonal lens array gives a more accurate approximation of ideal circular lens and provides higher pickup/display density than rectangular lens array[4]. Using the parallel processing technique in order to generate the elemental imaging for hexagonal lens array, each pixel that compose the elemental imaging should be determined to belong to the hexagonal lens. This process is output to the screen for every pixel in progress, and many computations are required. In this paper, we have proposed parallel processing method using an OpenCL to generate the elemental imaging for hexagonal lens array in 3D volume date. In the experimental result of proposed method show speed of 20~60 fps for hexagonal lens array of $20{\times}20$ sizes and input data of Male[$128{\times}256{\times}256$] volume data.

  • This paper presents a data-fitting technique in which a B-spline hypervolume is used to approximate a given data set of scattered data samples. We describe the implementation of the data structure of a B-spline hypervolume, and we measure its memory size to show that the representation is compact. The proposed technique includes two algorithms. One is for the determination of the knot vectors of a B-spline hypervolume. The other is for the control points, which are determined by solving a linear least-squares minimization problem where the solution is independent of the data-set complexity. The proposed approach is demonstrated with various data-set configurations to reveal its performance in terms of approximation accuracy, memory use, and running time. In addition, we compare our approach with existing methods and present unconstrained optimization examples to show the potential for various applications.

  • In this study, strength development properties of high volume fly ash concrete was evaluated through compressive strength of concrete with reduction of unit water content. And concrete specimens were prepared according to target strength 3 level and variation of unit water content. As a result, the improved fluidity were obtained as a result of the ball bearing action of the spherical, the electrostatic repulsion and the particle size distribution of fly ash particles in case of using more than 50% fly ash. Through this, the mixture of fly ash has been shown to reduce the amount of water required in concrete. Also, the early strength of high volume fly ash concrete with reduction of unit water content was improved more about 66% than general concrete mixture.
