  • This study conducted a literature review to provide a deeper understanding of childhood loss experiences and the complex grief that follows. When children experience the shock of losing a parent, they often experience sleep disturbances, antisocial behavior, guilt, post-traumatic stress, depression, and fear. When children between the ages of 5 and 9 experience a loss, they may become confused, fearful, and anxious. They may also become aggressive or have difficulty concentrating when experiencing a loss. And when children between the ages of 9 and 12 experience loss, they may experience feelings of sadness, depression, and fear. Children may experience behavioral or academic decline due to the experience of loss. The severe trauma that occurs in complex grief is caused by persistently dominating painful emotions and preventing adaptation to reality. It also causes fear and escape from reality due to painful emotions. Complicated grief disrupts the normal grief process which involves accepting sadness, longing, shock and pain while moving forward with a new life.

  • Pets are increasingly becoming vital companions in human life, prompting researchers to focus on understanding the grief experiences of pet owners. Unlike other forms of loss, pet loss often leads to complicated grief, characterized by intense and prolonged sorrow. This is likely due to the comparatively lower societal value placed on the human-pet relationship, which may restrict pet owners from feeling truly understood by others. The subjective perception of these "social constraints" significantly hampers the process of recovering from pet loss and contributes to the development of complicated grief. In this study, we hypothesize that the perceived social constraints could intensify the transition from the initial shock of pet loss to complicated grief. The results confirm that pet owners' perceived social constraints play a moderating role in the relationship between the shock of pet loss and complicated grief. Notably, pet owners experience heightened levels of complicated grief when perceiving greater social barriers and constraints. By highlighting the pivotal role of perceived social constraints in comprehending the experiences of pet loss and grief, this study underscores the importance of social awareness and improvement.

  • This study analyzed the process of mourning for aging in the film 'Miss Granny' in a convergent method. In exploring the contents of the movie repeatedly and interpreting the feeling of loss of old age in aging process as mourning process, I explored them in a psychoanalytic way. In other words, in a psychoanalytic method, I analyzed the aging process as a process of reinterpreting life and the change in developmental attitude toward the future life as a psychological world of mourning. The results of the study show that the process of mourning follows 'loss and deficiency', 'escape and regression', 'disidentification and decentralization', and 'adaptation to the new reality'. Based on these results, this research suggests that the counselor should not only focus on creating a psychological mood environment so that the client's mourning work will be smooth, but also should be able to use a complex counseling technique to improve the mental ability of the client.
