  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data useful in designing apparel patterns for aged abdominal obese women. The body measurements of 318 women were taken at random, whose ages were over 60 and fields of action were colleges, sports centers, or business sites in Seoul and the neighboring districts. A total of 33 features in the upper body and lower body were used fer the anthropometric measurement and analysis using anthropometry. The collected measurement data were processed statistically using the SPSS 12.0 program for technical statistical analysis, t-test, frequency analysis, correlation analysis. The results of the study are as follows. 1. Subjects were classified into two groups as a result of analysis for measurement data. It was revealed that 251(about 79 percent) women of total subjects(n=318) have a characteristic of abdominal obese body type and elderly women of these group usually had big abdomen rather than hip. The criteria of abdominal obesity based on waist-hip ratio, WHR(=0.85). 2. Aged abdominal obese women have shown much larger size in most body measurements except items of some vertical length, such as bust ponit-bust point, font interscye, back interscye with circumference and depth of armscye, bust, waist, abdomen and hip while showing no difference in height, biacrominal breadth, hip width, neck shoulder point to breast point, crotch length. 3. Vervaeck index(=100.1) and Rohrer index(=1.7) indicated that the abdominal obese women were fat in overall body. And aspect ratio of waist(=0.86), abdomen(=0.92) and hip(=0.75) also appeared high that the shape of cross sections in those regions was similar to a figure of circle 4. In view of the correlation coefficient between hip circumference and the rest measurement items, and between hip circumference inclusively of the abdomen protrusion and the rest measurement items, there were found some differences for each group. In case of Group (abdominal obese group), the former is smaller than the other. 5. In case of Abdominal obese women, hip circumference inclusively of the abdomen protrusion is more mutually related to the rest items related to make apparel pattern as waist circumference, depth of armscye and so on than what hip circumference is. This result indicated which must be considered hip circumference inclusively of the abdomen protrusion to make apparel patterns for abdominal obese women unlike women of common body types.

  • This study aims to develop a detailed sizing system for lower body clothing for elderly obese women, using data from the 8th Korean Anthropometric Survey. The research targets 296 elderly women aged 60 to 85, selected from 805 participants in total, who meet the following criteria: Rohrer Index of 1.6 or above, Body Mass Index of 25 or higher, and Waist-Hip Ratio of 0.85 or greater. Elderly women with abdominal obesity exhibit shorter lower body proportions and greater fat accumulation in the torso, around the chest and waist. The findings show that women in their 60s have the highest level of obesity, while waist width and thickness are greatest in women in their 70s, suggesting that abdominal obesity increases with age. According to the KS standards, the main measurement categories were divided into 5cm increments for height, while waist and hip girth were categorized into 5cm and 3cm, respectively, to analyze the distribution of sections. Clothing size standards for lower garments that require a precise fit, such as skirts and formal pants, are presented in 13 sizes, corresponding to a waist girth range of 85-100cm and a hip girth range of 88-97cm. Detailed measurements are categorized into primary and reference areas. Additionally, sizes were presented differently based on whether a precise fit was necessary. For items that did not require a precise fit, ranges were indicated with letters, or ranges were indicated with measurements. Detailed sizes were categorized into primary and reference areas.

  • This study was designed to examine the effects of 12 weeks of circuit exercise on obesity, physical fitness and metabolic syndrome index in elderly obese women. 19 elderly obese women volunteered to participate in and completed the study. Participants went through their exercise program for 30 minutes per session and 3 sessions per week for 12 weeks. Lower(p<.001) and upper extremities strength(p<.05), upper(p<.05) and lower extremities flexibility(p<.01), agility & dynamic balance(p<.001), endurance exercise capacity(p<.05) were significantly increased after 12 weeks circuit training. Also, Body weight(p<.001), BMI(p<.001) & Metabolic syndrome index as waist circumference(p<.01), systolic BP(p<.05), TG(p<.001), HDL-C(p<.01), glucose(p<.05) were significantly differenced between pre and post. It was concluded that circuit exercise program has positive effects on body composition, physical fitness and metabolic syndrome index in elderly obese women.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the differences in external appearances and functional qualities between the slacks which were patterned on existing designs and on a new design in order to improve on their level of comfort of ready-made clothes for abdominally fat women. Five abdominally fat women in their 60's were chosen as experimental participants. Twenty-four external evaluation items, and seven different actions involving six moving parts of the body were investigated with a 5-level scale in the repeated wearing test. The results were analyzed by statistical methods. The newly designed pattern in this study was definitely superior to the other two patterns(L-type and K-type) on the external appearance evaluation. The newly pattern removed a waist belt and a dart from the front part of the garment and gave surplus space around the waist. It prevented superfluous wrinkles at the abdominal region and thighs. The superfluous wrinkles at the side regions also disappeared due to the length (inseam) reduction from waist to crotch. The newly pattern made the center-line of the back side slightly sloped to the main pattern in order to remove the drooped line. The newly pattern showed the highest score in the functional test of several actions. It was due to the reduction of the length from waist to crotch as well as the belt width. It made waist-line movement better, and made it easier and more comfortable to sit down. The newly pattern also showed the highest score in the functional test classified by specific movements of parts of the body for the same purpose. The slacks which were made of elastic materials showed better results than the non-elastic ones on external appearances and functional test items. It showed that the elastic materials played a better role in the increase of functional action of abdominally fat, aged women. This study suggests that the newly designed slacks pattern could give abdominally fat, aged women better external features and a more comfortable fitting sensation. As well, the results were significant as basic data to produce ready-made and/or tailer-made garments.
