  • In recent years, many organizations protect their information resources by investing in information security technology. However, information security threats from insiders have not been reduced. This study proposes a method for reducing information security threats within an organization by mitigating negative information security behaviors of employees. Specifically, the study finds a relationship between information security related role stress and negative behavior and suggests whether organizational justice mitigates role stress. That is, the purpose of the study is to suggest a mechanism between organizational justice, information security related role stress, and negative behavior. Negative behavior consist of avoidance behavior and deviant behavior, and security related role stress consist of role conflict and role ambiguity. Organizational justice consist of distributional justice, procedural justice, and informational justice. The research model is verified through structural equation modeling. After establishing a research model and hypothesis, we develop a survey questionnaire and collect data from 383 employees whose organizations have already implemented security policies. The findings appear that security related role stress increases negative behavior and that organizational justice mitigates role stress. The results of the analysis suggest the direction of organizational strategy for minimizing insider's security-related negative behaviors.

  • In order to ensure that all firms are cyber-secure, many governments have started to enforce the implementation of various security measures on firms. Prior to the implementation, however, it is vague whether government enforced security measures will be effective for mitigating cyber-security risks. By applying a method for estimating the effectiveness of a mandatory seatbelt law in reducing fatalities from motor vehicle accidents, this study develops an ex ante evaluation method that can approximate the effectiveness of a government enforced security measure in reducing country-wide or industry-wide cyber-security risks. Using data obtained from the Korean Internet and Security Agency, this study then explores how to employ the developed method to assess the effectiveness of a specific security measure in mitigating cyber-security risks, if enforced by the government, and compares the effectiveness of various security measures. The comparison shows that compulsory security training has the highest effectiveness.

  • Ubiquitous computing supports environment to freely connect to network without restrictions of place and time. This environment enables easy access and sharing of information, but because of easy unauthorized accesses, specified security policy is needed. Especially, ubiquitous sensor network devices use limited power and are small in size, so, many restrictions on policies are bound to happen. This paper proposes double-key based light weight security protocol, independent to specific sensor OS, platform and routing protocol in ubiquitous sensor network. The proposed protocol supports safe symmetric key distribution, and allows security manager to change and manage security levels and keys. This had a strong merit by which small process can make large security measures. In the performance evaluation, the proposed light weight security protocol using double-key in ubiquitous sensor network allows relatively efficient low power security policy. It will be efficient to ubiquitous sensor network, such as smart of ace and smart home.

  • In order to publicly notify the information security (Internet or Cyber) threat level, the security companies have developed the Threat Meters. As the physical security devices are getting more intelligent and can be monitored and managed through networks, we propose a physical security threat meter (PSTM) to determine the current threat level of physical security; that is a very similar compared with the one of information security. For this purpose, we investigate and prioritize the physical security events, and consider the impact of temporal correlation among multiple security events. We also present how to determine the threshold values of threat levels, and then propose a practical PSTM using the threshold based decision. In particular, we show that the proposed scheme is fully implementable through showing the block diagram in detail and the whole implementation processes with the access controller and CCTV+video analyzer system. Finally the simulation results show that the proposed PSTM works perfectly under some test scenarios.

  • Existing comparative studies on legal system of cyber security just listed and introduced several laws of Korea and other countries and presented comprehensive comparison. These studies makes it difficult to know that which part of the cyber security activities has insufficient legal system from a practical standpoint because it is not easy to figure out. So cybersecurity stages are chosen as comparison criteria. And the legal system of United States are chosen as the target comparing one of South Korea. Then the legal system on cybersecurity stages in South Korea is compared with one of United States. Therethrough many problems of the legal system of South Korea is identified, for example, the absence of regulations, the lack of clarity, lack of effectiveness, and overlapping regulations, in prevention, detection, response, the recovery in cyber security. And many ways are suggested to improve the legal system for the resolution of such problems.

  • Because the specific security technology alone can not cope with sophisticated attacks, various security management models are applied. But, they do not focus on the vulnerability of the highest part because they offer so many common security management criteria. By analyzing the main information and confidential leakage cases inflicting enormous damage to our society, we found that attackers are using mainly an interface vulnerabilities - the paths that connect the internal and external of the organization, such as e-mail, web server, portable devices, and subcontractor employees. Considering the reality that time and resources to invest in security domain are limited, we point out the interface security vulnerabilities the possibility of attackers to exploit and present a convergence method of security measures. Finally, based of ROI(Return on Investment), we propose the real-time security management system through the intensive and continuous management.

  • As cyber-attacks become more intelligent and sophisticated, the importance of Security Operations Center(SOC) has increased and the number of SOC has been increasing. In order to cope with cyber threats, institutions and organizations use a variety of cyber security standards to create business procedures. However, SOC often need to be improved in accordance with the SOC environment because they collaborate with managed security service specialists rather than their own personnel. The NIST cyber security framework, information security management system, and managed security service companies were compared and analyzed. As a result, it was found that the NIST CSF is a framework that is easy to apply to managed security service, The content was judged to be insufficient. Therefore, in this study, NIST CSF was used as a reference model to derive the management items required for SOC environment, and the necessity, importance and ease of each item were confirmed through an Delphi technique and an improved cyber security framework was proposed.

  • Today many companies are offering IoT-enabled products and place emphasis on security from the planning stage to protect their products and user information from external threats. The present security levels, however, remain low because the time and resources invested in developing security requirements for each device are far from enough to meet the needs of a wide range of IoT products. Nevertheless, vulnerabilities of IoT devices have been reported continuously, which calls for more detailed security requirements for home IoT devices. In this context, this research identified threats of home IoT systems by using Microsoft Threat Modeling Tool. It then suggested measures to enhance the security of home IoT devices by developing security assessment items through comparative analysis of the identified threats, domestic and global vulnerability assessment standards and related research. It also verified the effectiveness of the developed security requirements by testing them against the existing ones, and the results revealed the security requirements developed in this research proved to be more effective in identifying vulnerabilities.

  • E-mail is one of the important tools for communicating with people in everyday life. With COVID-19 (Coronavirus) increasing non-face-to-face activity, security incidents through e-mail such as spam, phishing, and ransomware are increasing. E-mail security incidents are increasing as social engineering attack using human psychology rather than arising from technological weaknesses that e-mails have. Security incidents using human psychology can be prevented and defended by improving security awareness. This study empirically studies the analysis of changes in response to malicious e-mail due to improved security awareness through malicious e-mail simulations on executives and employees of domestic and foreign company. In this study, the factors of security training, top-down security management, and security issue sharing are found to be effective in safely responding to malicious e-mail. This study presents a new study by conducting empirical analysis of theoretical research on security awareness in relation to malicious e-mail responses, and results obtained from simulations in a practical setting may help security work.
