본격적인 겨울철로 접어드는 12월. 차가운 바람에 옷깃에 여미는 12월이지만, 충북 보령의 12월은 '천북 굴 축제'(2005.12.17~12.25)로 뜨거워진다. 내국인뿐만 아니라 세계인의 발길을 끌었던 대한민국 축제의 대명사 '보령 머드 축제'로 유명한 곳이지만 이날 만큼은 그 여름날의 열기를 잠시 잊은 채 겨울철 별미 '굴'의 맛 속으로 빠져보도록 하자.

A large number of stonefly nymph fossils were discovered from the Late Triassic Amisan Formation in the Boryeong region, Korea. These Plecoptera were classified as Platyperlidae, Baleyopterygidae, and Siberioperlidae based on their external morphologies. The Baleyopterygidae were most abundant among the fossils. This suggests that the plecopteran has already been widely distributed in the Northeast Asian region including Russia, Mongolia and China during the Mesozoic. The fossils of these stoneflies imply that benthic habitats of flowing and fresh waters may have existed, given the fact that they are similar with the biology of extant species. These Plecoptera were found together with Ephemeroptera and Conchostraca and thus, they were presumed to be preying on these insects.

We defined a dam as a wetland for assessing wetland functions of man made dam. We compared Boryung dam with Upo wetland by HGM assessment. Hydrologic functions of Boryung dam are not good at short term water storage, but good at long term water storage. Biogeochemical functions of Boryung dam are about 50% of Upo wetland's functions. Boryung dam is a good wetland as a plant habitats and animal habitats. But functions as a habitat for birds were not good. With this study we look forward to making clear merits and demerits of Boryung dam’s functions as a wetland.

This study was proceeded with interest on residents' perception of local festival(Boryeong City, Korea) and tried to examine the relation with their participation level and satisfaction. This study used 'festival visiting experience' as moderating variable with the expectation of difference in residents' perception according to visit. This study result indicated that residents can recognize local festival negatively if they feel they have no benefit from the festival even though the festival has many visitors with growing reputation. Also, festival visiting experience has no moderating effect on residents' participation intention in this study. The facts also find that the residents-oriented festival planning and promotion is more important in the partnership with local government and private sector-local residents. Further, it is very important to notice internal customer as well as external customer to ensure residents' satisfaction and participation.

일반적으로 수위·유량 거동은 시간에 따른 수위·유량의 변화량으로 분석이 가능하며, 이를 토대로 연간, 특정 기간의 수위·유량을 분석 및 예측하여 수자원을 효율적으로 활용하고, 재해 예방에 활용할 수 있다. 이러한 수위·유량의 거동에는 다양한 요인들이 영향을 미치며, 대부분의 경우 해당 요인들이 복합적으로 산재하여 각 요인의 영향이 중첩되어 수위 거동을 이해하기에 어려움이 존재한다. 그에 따라 본 연구에서는 웅천천 보령시(노천교) 지점을 대상으로 강우, 유출, 유입에 따른 수위·유량의 거동분석을 실시하였다. 보령시(노천교) 지점은 다양한 외부 요인들이 존재하며, 각 요인이 비교적 독립적으로 작용한다는 가정을 하여 지점의 수위·유량의 요인별 거동 양상을 분석하고자 한다. 우선 금강홍수통제소에서 제공되는 보령시(노천교) 10분 수위 자료와 일 강수량을 비교하여 강우에 따른 수위 패턴을 분석하였다. 이후 보령시(노천교) 10분 수위 자료를 한국수자원조사기술원에서 개발한 수위-유량관계곡선식을 이용해 10분 단위 유량으로 환산하고, 이를 한국수자원공사에서 제공하는 보령댐 10분 단위 총방류량 자료 중 하천 방류량(소수력, 관개(몽리), 하천유지, 등)에 해당하는 내용들을 추출해 비교하였다. 그 결과, 하천의 기저유량은 방류량에서 결정되는 것으로 확인되었으며, 강우량에 따른 수위상승은 비교적 직접적인 요인으로 일어났다. 1순위 수위(2.52m)는 강우에 의해 영향을 받고, 2순위 수위(2.24m)는 방류량에 영향을 받은 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 4~5월 기간에는 기저수위 이하로 떨어지는데, 이는 농업용수 취수의 영향으로 기저수위 이하의 수위거동을 보인 것으로 분석되었다 이를 통해 하천수위 거동을 요인별로 분석할 수 있었으며, 향후 물수지적 관점으로의 추가분석이나 강우에 따른 댐 방류량 조절을 수위로 치환해 더욱 세밀하게 조절할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

대한민국 대표 축제로 자리 잡은 보령머드축제의 핵심 프로그램인 머드 셀프마사지 행사의 재미와 다양성을 부여하기 위하여, 색상이 함유된 머드에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 머드 고유의 낮은 명도를 조절하고자 이산화티탄을 첨가하여 머드의 질감을 유지하면서 색상이 발현되는 이산화티탄의 함량을 실험하고, 결정된 혼합비율에 황색산화철을 첨가하여 색상의 발현도를 색차계, 육안검사, 사용감 등으로 판단하였다. 결정된 색상은 물에 젖음 시 발색정도와 세척상태를 검토하여 보령머드 축제 프로그램인 머드 셀프마사지 행사에 사용하여 축제의 다양성을 높이고 또한 한국의 고유색인 오방색을 나타낼 수 있는 유색머드를 개발하고자 하였다.

지난 8월 22일, 보령화력본부 접견실. 김관행 본부장과의 인터뷰 내내 '안전' 이란 단어가 맴 돌았다. 1호기 화재사고로 인해 뼈에 각인된 아픔을 되풀이 하지 않겠다는 결연한 의지의 표출이리라. 또 하나 화두처럼 인용된 단어가 '기본'. 미래성장 동력 창출 등 발전지향적인 사고와 실천이 시기적으로 필요하지만, '근본'을 더욱 중요시하고 이를 우선시하겠다는 것이 김 본부장의 확고한 방침이다. 핵심 퍼즐조각처럼 줄곧 인용되던 안전, 기본이란 반복어들은 인터뷰 말미 '전화위복', '안정적인 전력공급', '도약' 이란 큐빅으로 조합되면서 인터뷰는 마무리됐다.
