A Parallel Speech Recognition Model on Distributed Memory Multiprocessors (분산 메모리 다중프로세서 환경에서의 병렬 음성인식 모델)

  • This paper presents a massively parallel computational model for the efficient integration of speech and natural language understanding. The phoneme model is based on continuous Hidden Markov Model with context dependent phonemes, and the language model is based on a knowledge base approach. To construct the knowledge base, we adopt a hierarchically-structured semantic network and a memory-based parsing technique that employs parallel marker-passing as an inference mechanism. Our parallel speech recognition algorithm is implemented in a multi-Transputer system using distributed-memory MIMD multiprocessors. Experimental results show that the parallel speech recognition system performs better in recognition accuracy than a word network-based speech recognition system. The recognition accuracy is further improved by applying code-phoneme statistics. Besides, speedup experiments demonstrate the possibility of constructing a realtime parallel speech recognition system.

  • In this paper, a mechanism to enhance the utilization of the tertiary storage devices such as optical disk, digital tape and so on is proposed. For this purpose, we suggest a storage structure with a CD-ROM and multiple disk and design an efficient mechanism to represent the continuous media stored in CD-ROM. The continuous media storage structure proposed in this pater can enhanced the retrieval capability of information by sending data using a shared bus with high bandwidth. And a continuous media representation mechanism not only can reduce the discontinuity of representation using parallel operation of fetch and representation but also minimize the variance of service time and the missing ratio of re-reference requirement by residing frequently accessed object on the disk.

  • This work deals with kinematic analysis of fault-tolerant 3 degree-of-freedom spherical modules which have force redundancies in its parallel structure. The performance of a redundantly actuated four-legged module with no actuator failure, a single actuator failure, partial and half failure of dual actuator are compared to that of a three-legged module, in terms of maximum force transmission ratio, isotropic characteristics, and fault-tolerant capability. Additionally, a system with an excess number of small floating actuators is considered, and the contribution of these small actuators to the force transmission and fault-tolerant capability is evaluated. This study illustrates that the redundant actuation mode allows significant saving of input actuation effort, and also delivers a fault tolerance.

Study on the Precision Characteristics of a Planar 3 Degrees-of-Freedom Parallel Mechanism (평면형 3 자유도 병렬 메카니즘의 정밀도 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, output precision characteristic of planar 3 and 6 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanisms are investigated. The 6 degree-of-freedom mechanism is formed by adding an additional small link along with an actuated joint in each of serial subchain of the 3 degree-of-freedom mechanism. First, kinematic analysis for two parallel mechanisms are performed, then their first-order kinematic characteristics are examined via isotropic index and minimum velocity transmission ratio of the mechanisms. It can be concluded that the planar 6 degrees-of-freedom parallel mechanism can be very effectively employed as a high-precision macro-micro manipulator from the analysis results when its link lengths are properly chosen.

  • Most of Commercial Remote Center Compliance(RCC) devices have been designed using deforma ble structures. In this work, we propose another type of assembly devices which generate the compliance effec ts by attaching the compliances (or spring) at the prismatic joints of the griven mechainsm. First, the kinematic analysis for a parallel-type planar 3-degree-of-freedom mechanism is performed using modified transfer method of generalized coordinate. Then, compliance characteristics for the mechanism using prismatic joint compliances are investigated. In particular, when the system maintains its symmetric configuration, the mechanism is show n to have RCC points at the center of the workspace. Finally, sensitivity analysis around RCC points is perfor med.

  • This paper report the implementation results of Monte Carlo numerical calculation for ion distributions in plasma dry etching chamber and of the surface evolution simulator using cell removal method for topographical evolution of the surface exposed to etching ion. The energy and angular distributions of ion across the plasma sheath were calculated by MC(Monte Carlo) algorithm. High performance MPP(Massively Parallel Processing) algorithm developed in this paper enables efficient parallel and distributed simulation with an efficiency of more than 95% and speedup of 16 with 16 processors. Parallelization of surface evolution simulator based on cell removal method reduces simulation time dramatically to 15 minutes and increases capability of simulation required enormous memory size of 600Mb.

  • A general purpose distributed processes communication control mechanism is a typical approach used for synchronizing concurrent processes involved in communication. The mechanism can provide a framework on which the layered communication architectures and protocols are efficiently implemented. The mechanism is realized under restricted environment where monitor facility is not available by means of simulation using semaphore.

  • It is important to understand how we can deal with doements for the modeling of neural networks when we are unbestigating the dynamical performance and the information procoessing capabilitids.The information procewssing capabkities of model neural networks will change for different response, synaptic weights or learning rules. Using the staritical neurodyamics method, we evalute the capabikities of neural networks in order to understand the basic conept ofr parallel distributed processing. In this paper, we explain the reuslts of theoretical anaysis of the effests of the hysteretic property on the performance of wuquential associative neral networks.

The compliance models are derived for a serial-type, parallel-type, and hybrid-type mechanisms, respectively.
