  • In this study, the flexural characteristics of reinforced polymer concrete T-beams strengthened with GFRP, typically used for bridges and parking structures, are investigated. A method to determine the flexural failure mode of reinforced polymer concrete T-beams comprised of compression failure (CF), tension failure (TF), and fiber sheet failure (FF) for different levels of GFRP strengthening is proposed. Moreover, the present study provides a formula to calculate the design flexural strength for each failure mode. In reinforced polymer concrete T-beams strengthened with GFRP, an ideal failure mode can be achieved when the failure occurs in the following order: 1) yield of steel reinforcement, 2) failure of GFRP, and 3) compression failure of concrete. In the case of FF mode, due to GFRP failure before the polymer concrete crushing in compression region, a concept of equivalent rectangular block based on the ultimate limit state of concrete should not be used. Thus, this study suggests an idealized stress-strain curve for polymer concrete and finds parameters for stress block, ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ based on the strain distribution in polymer concrete. Furthermore, the present study suggests an aspect ratio of 2.5 by examining the compressive stress distribution and design flexural strength characteristics for different aspect ratio of T-beams. This study also provides a design flexural strength formula, and validates its acceptability based on experiment and theoretical analysis.

  • Kirchhoff-Love plate (KLP) equation is a well established theory for a description of a deformation of a thin plate under certain outer source. Meanwhile, analysis of a vibrating plate in a frequency domain is important in terms of obtaining the main frequency/eigenfunctions and predicting the vibration of plate. Among various modal analysis methods, dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) is one of the efficient data-driven methods. In this work, we carry out DMD based modal analysis for KLP where thin plate is under effects of sine-type outer force. We first construct discrete time series of KLP solutions based on a finite difference method (FDM). Over 720,000 number of FDM-generated solutions, we select only 500 number of solutions for the DMD implementation. We report the resulting DMD-modes for KLP. Also, we show how DMD can be used to predict KLP solutions in an efficient way.

  • This paper represents a forgery attack on new authenticated encryption mode $NAE^{[1]}$ which was proposed at JCCI 2003. NAE is a new authenticated encryption mode which is combined with CFB mode and CTR mode. And it provides confidentiality. In this paper, we show that it is possible to make a valid ciphertext-tag pair only by modifying a ciphertext.

  • Key derivation functions are used within many cryptographic systems in order to generate various keys from a fixed short key string. In this paper we survey a state-of-the-art in the key derivation functions and wish to examine the soundness of the functions on the view point of provable security. Especially we focus on the key derivation functions using pseudorandom functions which are recommended by NISI recently, and show that the variant of Double-Pipeline Iteration mode using pseudorandom permutations is a pseudorandom function. Block ciphers can be regarded as practical primitives of pseudorandom permutations.

  • An atomistic-based finite bond element model for predicting the tearing mode (mode III) fracture of a single-layer graphene sheet (SLGS) is developed. The model uses the modified Morse potential for predicting the maximum strain relationship of graphene sheets. The mode III fracture of graphene under out-of-plane shear loading is investigated with extensive molecular mechanics simulations. Molecular mechanics is used for describing the displacements of atoms in the area near a crack tip, and linear elastic fracture mechanics is used outside this area. This work shows that the molecular mechanics method can provide a reliable and yet simple method for determining not only the shear properties of SLGS but also its mode III fracture toughness in the armchair and the zigzag directions; the determined mode III fracture toughness values of SLGS are $0.86MPa{\sqrt{m}}$ and $0.93MPa{\sqrt{m}}$, respectively.

  • Chaos is one of the most significant topics in nonlinear science, and has been intensively studied since the Lorenz system was introduced. One characteristic of a chaotic system is that the signals produced by it do not synchronize with any other system. It therefore seems impossible for two chaotic systems to synchronize with each other, but if the two systems exchange information in just the right way, they can synchronize. This paper addresses the problem of synchronization in a modified Lorenz chaotic system based on active control, sliding mode control, and the Lyapunov stability theory. The considered synchronization scheme consists of identical drive and response generalized systems coupled with linear state error variables. For this, a brief overview of the modified Lorenz chaotic system is given. Then, control rules are derived for chaos synchronization via active control and slide mode control theory, with a strategy for solving the chattering problem. The asymptotic stability of the overall feedback system is established using the Lyapunov stability theory. A set of computer simulation works is presented graphically to confirm the validity of the proposed method.

  • The application of reinforcement design to ensure the structural safety of electronics in small satellites is limited by the spatial constraints of the satellite structure during launch vibrations. Additionally, a reliable evaluation approach is needed for mounting highly integrated devices that are susceptible to fatigue failure. Although the Steinberg fatigue failure theory has been used to assess the structural integrity of electronic devices, recent studies have highlighted its theoretical limitations. In this paper, we propose a structural methodology based on the critical strain theory to design the digital control unit (DCU) of the X-band SAR payload component for the small SAR technology experimental project (S-STEP), a small satellite constellation. To validate the design, we conducted modal and random analyses using simplified modeling techniques. Based on our methodology, we ultimately demonstrated the structural safety of the electronics through analysis results, safety margin derivation, and functional tests conducted both before and after the launch test.
