  • In the present study, hollow precast concrete wall (PC Double Wall) for staircase construction was developed. Comparing the conventional walls, the PC Double Wall can be reduced the lift weight using hollow core and improves the integrity between the PC members. The cross-section and re-bar details of the PC Double Wall were developed considering precast concrete manufacturing, constructability, and the structural safety. Particularly, a form system was developed to manufacture thin and hollow core PC wall efficiently. A mock-up test for a staircase using the PC Double wall was performed to verify the constructability and integrity of the PC walls. The test result verified that joint deformation and cracking did not occur as showing good constructability.

  • In the present study, the application of a method of anchored or waste tyre wall in reinforcing the unstable slope is investigated. For design purposes a method of external stability analysis of the reinforced slope, together with a method of internal stability analysis of a wall itself, is presented. In order to predict the passive resistance expected in the anchor or waste tyre Meyerhof's bearing capacity theory is moapaed and experimental results of stress distribution of a pile section under lateral loading is used. Hurray's pull-out teat results are compared with the passive resistances of anchors predicted by the proposed method, and alto the advantages in design are compared with a method of reinforced earth wall with steel strips. Finally a design example of reinforced slope using anchored or caste tyre wall is presented and the overall stability is analyzed in detail by the proposed method of analysis. The efficiency of a method of anchored or waste tyre wall is further analyzed, comparing with a method of changing geometry of the origin리 unstable slope.

  • The wall system has been also tending to shift from existing concrete wall to variable lightweight wall according to increasing use of column structure system in apartment construction. Therefore, wall needs certain amount of strength which also means the standard measurement of resistance against loading of wall attachments is needed. Nevertheless, there currently aren't enough researches of related standards for such measurement. For such reason, the research would be used as baseline data to development for test methods of load resistance about attachments on the lightweight wall, that presented improvements in the apparatus and maximum loads for domestic circumstances by researching current tests.

  • This study does by purpose that propose shear resisting force equation of reinforced masonry wall that is reinforced by GFRP(glass fiber reinforced polymer) based on result that is noted through cyclic loading of masonry wall and a shaking table experiment of mock that reflect identifying marks of masonry building which is constructed in domestic. It was Rocking mode to dominate failure of masonry wall in the experiment results, and the equations of UBC show the most resemblant value with experiment results. Through this study, propose the shear force equation of GFRP strengthened masonry wall as following. $$V_n=0.02A_n{\sqrt{f'_m}}+0.022b_gh_g(1+2{\alpha})^3{\sqrt{f_g}}(N/mm^2)$$.

  • In order to prevent leakage of contaminants in offshore landfill, vertical barrier should be installed. Vertical barrier should be installed at designed depth of seabed to prevent the horizontal transport of contaminant in the subsurface. In this study, the seepage and contaminant transport in the subsurface according to embedded depth of vertical barrier were analyzed by using 2-D finite element analysis program SEEP/W and 3-D finite difference analysis program Visual Modflow. Numerical modelling results show that seepage flux and contaminant transport in seabed was greatly reduced when vertical barrier was installed at certain depth of low permeable layer. Therefore, the determination of minimum embedded depth for preventing contaminant leakage is helpful to design the economical vertical barrier.

  • Mononobe-Okabe method is generally used to evaluate dynamic earth pressure for the seismic design of retaining walls. However, Mononobe-Okabe method does not consider the effects of dynamic interactions between backfill soil and walls. In this research, shaking table tests on retaining walls were performed to analyze the phase and magnitude of dynamic earth pressure. The unit weight of walls, the amplitude of input acceleration and the base friction coefficient of walls were varied to analyze the influence of these factors on the dynamic earth pressure. Test results showed that the dynamic earth pressure was 180 degrees out of phase with the wall inertia force for the low sliding velocity of the wall, whereas small peaks of the dynamic earth pressure, which are in phase with the wall inertia force, were developed for the high sliding velocity of the wall. The amplitude of dynamic earth pressure was proportional to that of wall acceleration and the unit weight of the wall. In addition, the dynamic earth forces calculated by the Mononobe-Okabe method were the upper limit of the dynamic earth pressures.

  • On the flow of groundwater, the effect of consecutive column-wall in underground as a hydraulic barrier could be identified by conventional geotechnical methods ((1)visualiy identification of wall mass after underground excavating, (2)uniaxial compressive strength test for core of wall mass in underground, (3)in-situ permeability test in the hole after coring wall mass). However, for the cut off the leakage or infiltration of very high concentrated leachate from the waste landfill or the contaminated groundwater, the waterproof effect of consecutive column-wall in underground should be verified more objectively, by in-situ measuring of pH, temperature and salinity. and by evaluating of their consistency and similarity throughout analyzing the characteristics of basic components and their profiles through the series of chemical experiments. Furthermore, its waterproof effect could be verified additionally throughout deciding the similarity more simply by comparing the general distribution patterns including the difference of high and low peaks from the chromatograms using GC-MS for surrounding groundwater.

  • This study intends to develop an analytical model of unreinforced masonry(URM) walls for the nonlinear static analysis which has been generally used to evaluate the seismic performance of a building employing URM walls as seismic force-resisting members. The developed model consists of fiber elements used to capture the flexural behavior of an URM wall and a shear spring element implemented to predict its shear response. This paper first explains the configuration of the proposed model and describes how to determine the modeling parameters of fiber and shear spring elements based on the stress-strain curves obtained from existing experimental results of masonry prisms. The proposed model is then verified throughout the comparison of its nonlinear static analysis results with the experimental results of URM walls carried out by other researchers. The proposed model well captures the maximum strength, the initial stiffness, and their resulting load - displacement curves of the URM walls with reasonable resolution. Also, it is demonstrated that the analysis model is capable of predicting the failure modes of the URM walls.

  • In Korea, one of the most used structural systems for residential apartment buildings is the combination of the reinforced concrete (RC) wall and rahmen structures in the upper and lower floors, respectively. To alleviate the significant difference between the stiffnesses of these two structural systems, large transfer girders are generally required in the transition zone of the structure, which then results in the use of large amounts of construction materials and low economic feasibility. This paper proposes a new RC boundary-beam-wall system that can minimize the disadvantages of the RC transfer girder system. The structural performance of the proposed system subjected to axial loading was evaluated via rigorous three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis. Four parameters, namely the ratio of lower wall to upper wall lengths, distance between stirrups, main bar slope ratio, and slab length, were considered in the finite element analysis, and their effects on the maximum axial load were analyzed and discussed.

  • In areas where excavation works are carried out, it is very important to select a retaining wall method to minimize ground water level and ground subsidence changes. In this regard, the use of Secant Pile Wall(SPW) method, which can complement the disadvantages of the CIP method, is gradually domestic increasing for the construction of retaining wall method. This study investigated the design elements of the SPW method and the interrelationship between the structural stability factors of the wall. The design elements for the retaining method are the overlap length between piles, pile diameter, and the specifications of the H-Beam specifications, while the structural stability factors of the wall are the bending stress, shear stress, horizontal displacement, and concrete strength. The study results showed that the pile diameter and H-Beam specifications have a significant impact on the capacity of the H-Beam, the overlap length and pile diameter have a significant impact on the horizontal displacement, and the pile diameter and H-Beam specifications have a significant impact on the required strength of the concrete.
