Neuro-Control of Seismically Excited Base-Isolated Benchmark Structure using MR Damper (MR댐퍼를 이용한 지진하중을 받는 지진격리 벤치마크 구조물의 신경망제어)

  • 이 논문에서는 신경망 제어기와 MR 댐퍼를 이용하여 지진하중을 받는 지진격리 벤치마크 구조물의 응답 감소를 위한 반능동 제어방법이 제안되었다. 제안방법 중 신경망 제어기에는 적절한 제어력을 산출하기 위해 가격함수를 기반으로한 학습 알고리즘과 간편한 민감도 계산기법이 도입되었다. MR 댐퍼가 계산되어진 제어력과 비슷한 제어력을 낼 수 있도록 clipped 알고리즘을 이용하였고, 제안된 반능동 신경망 제어방법이 지진격리 장치가 설치된 벤치마크 구조물에 적용되었다. 수치해석에서는 벤치마크 문제를 정의한 논문에서 제공된 수동제어방법이나 예시제어방법과 제안 방법의 제어성능을 비교하였다. 수치해석 결과 제안방법은 지하 변위를 약간 증가시키지만, 각층의 가속도, base shear, building corner drift 등을 매우 효과적으로 줄이는 것으로 판명되었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 사장교의 제어기법 개발을 위한 구조물로 제공되는 벤치마크(benchmark) 사장교에 대해 복합제어 기법을 적용하였다. 이 벤치마크 문제에서는 2003년 완공 예정으로 미국 Missouri 주에 건설 중인 Cape Girardeau 교를 대상 구조물로 고려하였다. Cape Girardeau 교는 New Madrid 지진구역에 위치하고, Mississippi 강을 횡단하는 주요 교량이라는 점 때문에 설계단계에서부터 내진 문제에 대하여 자세하게 고려되었다. 상세 설계도면을 기반으로 하여 교량의 전체적인 거동 특성을 정확하게 나타낼 수 있는 3차원 모델이 만들어졌고, 사장교의 제어 성능에 관련된 평가 기준이 수립되었다. 본 연구에서 사용한 복합제어 기법이란 지진하중으로 인해 구조물에 발생되는 하중을 줄이기 위한 수동제어 기법과 상판변위와 같은 구조물의 응답을 추가적으로 제어하기 위한 능동제어 기법이 결합된 제어방법이다. 수동제어 장치로는 현재 일반적으로 많이 사용되고 있는 납고무받침(lead rubber bearing)을 사용하였다. 능동제어 방법에는 $H_2$/LQG 제어 알고리듬(algorithm)을 사용하였다. 수치해석 결과 제안방법의 성능은 수동제어 방법에 비해 매우 효과적이며, 능동제어 방법에 비해서는 좀더 좋은 제어성능을 나타내었다. 또한, 복합제어 방법은 수동제어 부분 때문에 능동제어 방법에 비해 좀더 신뢰할 수 있는 제어 방법이다. 따라서 제안된 제어방법은 지진하중을 받는 사장교의 제어를 위해 효과적으로 사용될 수 있다.

Hybrid Control of a Benchmark Cable-Stayed Bridge Considering Nonlinearity of a Lead Rubber Bearing (납고무받침의 비선형성을 고려한 벤치마크 사장교의 복합제어)

  • This paper presents a hybrid control strategy for seismic protection of a benchmark cable-stayed bridge, which is provided as a testbed structure for the development of strategies for the control of cable-stayed bridges. This benchmark problem considers the cable-stayed bridge that is scheduled for completion in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA in 2003. Seismic considerations were strongly considered in the design of this bridge due to the location of the bridge in the New Madrid seismic zone and its critical role as a principal crossing of the Mississippi river. Based on detailed drawings of this cable-stayed bridge, a three-dimensional linearlized evaluation model has been developed to represent the complex behavior of the bridge. A set of eighteen evaluation criteria has been developed to evaluate the capabilities of each control strategy. In this study, a hybrid control system is composed of a passive control system to reduce the earthquake-induced forces in the structure and an active control system to further reduce the bridge responses, especially deck displacements. Conventional base isolation devices such as lead rubber bearings are used for the passive control design and Bouc-Wen model is used to simulate the nonlinear behavior of these devices For the active control design, ideal hydraulic actuators are used and on $H_2$/LQG control algorithm is adopted. Numerical simulation results show that the performance of the proposed hybrid control strategy is quite effective compared to that of the passive control strategy and slightly better than that of the active control strategy. The hybrid control method is also more reliable than the fully active control method due to the passive control part. Therefore, the proposed hybrid control strategy can effectively be used to seismically excited cable-stayed bridges.

  • 본 논문에서는 Maximum Energy Dissipation Algorithm(MEDA) 사장교의 MR댐퍼제어에 적용하고자 한다 MR댐퍼의 제어를 위해서 여러 제어 이론들이 제안되었으나, 각각의 특성에도 불구하고 성능면에서는 큰 차이가 없다 MEDA는 Lyapunove 직접법을 바탕으로 군성되는 제어이론으로써, 15년전에 제안되었음에도 실제 토목구조물에는 적용된 바 없어 그 성능 및 장점이 제대로 검증되지 않았다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 벤치마크 사장교 수치예제를 통해서, MEDA의 토목구조물에의 적용성을 성능(performance)과 강인성(robustness) 측면에서 분석하려한다. 수치예제에서 다양한 지진에 대한 층간변위, 가속도, 그리고 상대변위의 각 제어기법에 의한 감소량은 벤치마크문제에 정의된 평가지수(evaluation criteria)를 사용하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 미국토목학회(ASCE)의 사장교에 대한 첫번째 벤치마크 문제를 이용하여 제어-구조물 상호작용을 고려한 새로운 반능동 제어 기법을 제안하였다. 이 벤치마크 문제에서는 2003년 완공 예정으로 미국 Missouri 주에 건설 중인 Cape Girardeau 교를 대상 구조물로 고려하였다. Cape Girardeau 교는 New Madrid 지진구역에 위치하고, Mississippi 강을 횡단하는 주요 교량이라는 점 때문에 설계단계에서부터 내진 문제에 대하여 자세하게 고려되었다. 상세 설계 도면을 기반으로 하여 교량의 전체적인 거동 특성을 정확하게 나타낼 수 있는 3차원 모델이 만들어졌고, 사장교의 제어 성능에 관련된 평가 기준이 수립되었다. 본 연구에서는 제어 가능한 유체 감쇠기에 속하는 MR 유체 감쇠기를 제어 장치로 제안하였고, 기존 연구에서 MR 유체 감쇠기를 포함한 구조물의 제어에 효율적이라고 검증된 clipped-optimal 알고리듬을 제어 알고리듬으로 사용하였다. 또한, 실제 규모의 MR 유체 감쇠기 실험 결과를 이용하여 수치해석에 이용할 수 있는 동적 모델을 개발하였다. MR 유체 감쇠기는 제어 가능한 에너지 소산장치이며 구조물에 에너지를 가하지 않기 때문에 제안된 제어 기법은 한정입출력 안정성이 보장된다. 수치해석을 통해, MR 유체 감쇠기를 이용한 반능동 제어 기법이 사장교의 응답 감소에 효과적인 방법임을 증명하였다.

  • The effectiveness of fuzzy supervisory control technique for the control of seismic responses of smart base isolation system is investigated in this study. To this end, first generation base isolated building benchmark problem is employed for the numerical simulation. The benchmark structure under consideration is an eight-story base isolated building having irregular plan and is equipped with low-damping elastometric bearings and magnetorheological (MR) dampers for seismic protection. Lower level fuzzy logic controllers (FLC) for far-fault or near-fault earthquakes are developed in order to effectively control base isolated building using multi-objective genetic algorithm. Four objectives, i.e. reduction of peak structural acceleration, peak base drift, RMS structural acceleration and RMS base drift, are used in multi-objective optimization process. When earthquakes are applied to benchmark building, each of low level FLCs provides different command voltage and supervisory fuzzy controller combines two command voltages io one based on fuzzy inference system in real time. Results from the numerical simulations demonstrate that base drift as well as superstructure responses can be effectively reduced using the proposed supervisory fuzzy control technique.

  • This paper examines the ASCE first generation benchmark problem for a seismically excited cable-stayed bridge, and proposes a new semi-active control strategy focusing on inclusion of effects of control-structure interaction. This benchmark problem focuses on a cable-stayed bridge in Cope Girardeau, Missouri, USA, for which construction is expected to be completed in 2003. Seismic considerations were strongly considered in the design of this bridge due to the location of the bridge in the New Madrid seismic zone and its critical role as a principal crossing of the Mississippi River. In this paper, magnetorheological(MR) fluid dampers are proposed as the supplemental damping devices, and a clipped-optimal control algorithm is employed. Several types of dynamic models for MR fluid dampers, such as a Bingham model, a Bouc-Wen model, and a modified Bouc-Wen model, are considered, which are obtained from data based on experimental results for full-scale dampers. Because the MR fluid damper is a controllable energy-dissipation device that cannot add mechanical energy to the structural system, the proposed control strategy is fail-safe in that bounded-input, bounded-output stability of the controlled structure is guaranteed. Numerical simulation results show that the performance of the proposed semi-active control strategy using MR fluid dampers is quite effective.

Design of Adaptive Controller to Compensate Dynamic Friction for a Benchmark Robot (벤치마크 로봇의 동적 마찰 보상을 위한 적응 제어기 설계)

  • Friction force on robot systems is highly nonlinear and especially disturbs precise control of the robots at low speed. This paper deals with the dynamic friction compensation problem of a well-known one-link benchmark robot system. We consider the LuGre model because the model can successfully represent dynamic characteristics and various effects of friction phenomenon. The proposed controller is constructed as two parts. An adaptive controller based on dual observers is used to estimate and compensate the dynamic friction. In order to attenuate the friction estimation error and other disturbances, PI observer is additionally designed. Through the computer simulations with the benchmark system, this paper first examines the effects of nonlinear dynamic friction on the control performance of the benchmark robot system. Next, it is shown that the control performance against the dynamic friction is improved by using the proposed controller.

In this study, four passive control systems, one active control system, two semiactive control systems and three hybrid control systems are considered. Numerical simulation results show that all the control systems are effective in reducing the responses of the benchmark cable-stayed bridge under the historical earthquakes. To get good performance, however, the passive control systems need quite large control forces compared to other control systems. The simulation results also demonstrate that the passive, semiactive and hybrid control systems are robust to the stiffness uncertainty of the structure. Therefore, the semiactive and hybrid control systems are more appropriate in real applications for full-scale civil infrastructures.

  • Fuzzy supervisory control technique for the seismic response control of cable-stayed bridges subject to earthquakes is studied. The proposed technique is a hybrid control method, which adopts a hierarchical structure consisting of several sub-controllers and a fuzzy supervisor. Sub-controllers are independently designed to reduced the responses to be controlled of a cable-stayed bridge, and a fuzzy supervisor achieves improved seismic control performance by tuning the pre-designed sub-controllers. It is realized by converting static gains of the sub-controllers into time-varying dynamic gains through the fuzzy inference mechanism. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed technique, the benchmark control problem of cable-stayed bridge proposed by Dyke et al. is adopted. The control variables for the seismic response control of the cable-stayed bridge are determined to be t도 shear forces and bending moments at the base of the towers, the longitudinal displacements at the top of the towers, the relative displacements between the deck and the tower, and the tensions in the stay cables. Comparative results between the fuzzy supervisory controller and LQG controller demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control technique.
