  • Recently, the research of the analysis of the crime spatial is increased by using the computer information technology and GIS (Geometric Information System) in order to prevent the urban crime so as to increase the urbanization rate. In this paper, a probability map formed by the raster is organized by the quantification of crime risk per the cell using the region property of the urban spatial information in the static environment. Also, a map of the risk probability is constructed based on the relative risk by the region property, the relative risk by the facility, the relative risk by the woody plant and the river, and so on. And, this integrated risk probability map is calculated by averaging the individual cell risk applied to the climatic influence and the seasonal factor. And, a probability map of the overall risk is generated by the interpretation key of the crime occurrence relative risk index, and so, this information is applied to the probability map quantifying the occurrence crime pattern. And so, in this paper, a methodology of the modeling and the simulation that this crime risk probability map is modified according to the passage of time are proposed.

  • In this paper we propose a method that can generate the risk probability map in the form of raster shape by using Markov Chain methodology applied to the object interpretation keys and quantified risk indexes. These object interpretation keys, which are primarily characteristics that can be identified by the naked eye, are set based on the objects that comprise the spatial information of a certain urban area. Each key is divided into a cell, and then is weighted by its own risk index. These keys in turn are used to generate the unified risk probability map using various levels of crime prediction probability maps. The risk probability map may vary over time and means of applying different sets of object interpretation keys. Therefore, this method can be used to prevent crimes by providing the ways of setting up the best possible police patrol beat as well as the optimal arrangement of surveillance equipments.

  • This study set out to identify crime vulnerable areas with the GIS spatial analysis technique for the prediction of crimes. Crime vulnerable areas were extracted from the statistics of crimes with the GIS hotspot analysis technique and the inverse distance weighted(IDW) method applied to different crimes according to places and use districts. The scope of surveillance and weight were calculated for each of CPTED surveillance elements including CCTV, streetlamp, patrol division, and police substation. Maps of crime vulnerable areas were overlapped one after another to make a CPTED-based one expressed in four grades(safety, attention, warning, and risk).

  • As interest in social safety has recently increased at the national level, the various activities which can effectively prevent crimes are being carried out. Because the existing maps related to crimes provide the information about the present condition of crimes by administrative district for users, women and pedestrians who go by night could not actually grasp safe roads in advance. Therefore, this study developed the methodology that can easily extract dangerous areas due to crimes by the digital map 2.0. In the digital map 2.0, location and attribute information of center-lines of roads and building layers were used to find dangerous areas of crimes in these layers. Pavement materials and road width which are already built by the attribute information were used in the center-lines of roads. Crossing angles that roads and roads cross each other were additionally extracted and utilized. The attribute information about building types were input in the building layers of the digital map 2.0. The areas that are more the threshold values set by totaling up all the risk scores when considering pavement materials, road width, crossing angles of road, and building types in the center-lines of roads and road crossings were extracted as the dangerous areas that crimes can occur. Verification of the developed methodology was done by experiment. In the spatial apsect, the dangerous areas of crimes could be found by using the digital 2.0, roads, and building layers only through the experiment. In the administrative aspect to prevent crimes, additional installation of safety facilities such as street lights and security lights in the identified areas which are vulnerable for crimes is thought to be increasing safety of dangerous areas.

  • It is important to scrutinize spatial patterns in crime analysis since crime data has geographical attribute in itself. We focus on the development of ¨Crime Analysis GIS¨ prototype which can discover spatial patterns in crime data by integrating mapping functions of GIS and spatial analysis techniques. The structure of this system involves integration of DBMS and GIS, and the major functions of the system include (i) exploring spatial distribution of point data, (ii) mapping hot-spot, (iii) clustering analysis of crime occurrence, and (iv) analyzing aggregated areal data. The process of design and implementation of this system is based on object-oriented methodologies. A web-based extension of the prototype using 3-tier architecture is currently under development.

  • The urban crimes that threat individual's safety are parts of the serious social problems. However. the information of crime in Korea has only been provided by forms of hot spots around place of crime, or forms of crime statistics without positional information. Those could not provide enough information to users in identifying the vulnerable areas for substantive crimes. Therefore, this study suggested a methodology of extraction in criminal vulnerable areas by using the spatial information, the statistical information and the public sector information. The crime vulnerable areas were extracted through the grid-based spatial analysis and the overlapping analysis from each of the information. In fact, the extracted areas were able to provide detailed vulnerability information than the traditional hot spot-based crime information. Following the study, the extracted results in crime vulnerable areas have displayed highly coincide with Korea safety map, provided by national disaster management institute, which regards to be able to provide crime risk rating in terms of administrative business in future.

  • The recent long-term economic recession and business depression are constantly increasing the occurence of the five major crimes(murder, robbery, rape, theft, violence). When looking into the previously-analyzed characteristics of how the five major crimes are committed, this study understands that the crimes mostly occur in these crime-ridden areas of poor public order and security and, in order to decrease the crime rates of the crime-prone areas, any relevant fields have been emphasizing the application of CPTED. In the light of that, referring to CPTED surveillance factors and the current crime rate data, the study presented ways to help the relevant fields draw up a crime-prone area grade map. In particular, the security center among monitoring elements was visualized by dividing it into point patrol and directed patrol and by dividing it into 3 steps monitoring levels with CCTV and street lights. In addition, we checked the crime rate by zoning through crime statistics occurred in the research areas and established a crime status map. We estimated the weight through AHP analysis on the built monitoring elements and the zoning of the occurred areas, as a result of making a map vulnerable to crime by monitoring steps by overlapping each element, we were able to confirm that 60% of theft, 52% of violence and 33% of rape in the 1st grade area were reduced compared to the 1st step in monitoring Step 3.

  • There are many CCTV cameras connected to the video surveillance and monitoring center for the safety of citizens, and it is difficult for a few monitoring agents to monitor many channels of videos. In this paper, we propose an intelligent video surveillance system utilizing a safety map to efficiently monitor many channels of CCTV camera videos. The safety map establishes the frequency of crime occurrence as a database, expresses the degree of crime risk and makes it possible for agents of the video surveillance center to pay attention when a woman enters the crime risk area. The proposed gender classification method is processed in the order of pedestrian detection, tracking and classification with deep training. The pedestrian detection and tracking uses Adaboost algorithm and probabilistic data association filter, respectively. In order to classify the gender of the pedestrian, relatively simple AlexNet is applied to determine gender. Experimental results show that the proposed gender classification method is more effective than the conventional algorithm. In addition, the results of implementation of intelligent video security system combined with safety map are introduced.

  • To deal with the modern intellectual criminal acts, various efforts have been tried. Especially, it is not difficult to watch the recent activities to analyze the criminal characteristics spatially using computing and GIS technology. In this study, the spatial features and patterns of crime are investigated. Based on the real criminal record in Seoul Korea, the crime is reconstituted with four major categories such as assault, larceny, robbery, and rape. Then the variables are derived based on the theory of criminology. The kernal density analysis is performed to investigate the criminal distribution, and the correlation between the main criminal causes and the criminal outbreak is examined by buffering analysis. In addition, the land price and land usages are correlated with social-economic factors of criminal patterns to produce the final crime map.
