Service Life Analysis of Control Valve for Automatic Turbine Startup of Thermal Power Plant (화력 발전소 증기 터빈의 자동기동을 위한 주증기 제어 밸브 수명해석)

  • The automatic turbine startup system provides turbine control based on thermal stress. During the startup, control system monitors and evaluates main components of turbine using damage mechanism and life assessment. In case of valve chest, the temperature of inner/outer wall is measured by thermo-couples and the safety of these values are evaluated by using allowable ${\Delta}T$ limit curve during the startup. Because allowable ${\Delta}T$ limit curve includes life assessment, it is possible to apply this curve to turbine control system. In this paper, low cycle fatigue damage and combined rupture and low cycle fatigue damage criterion proposed for yielding the allowable ${\Delta}T$ limit curve of CV(control valve) chest. To calculate low cycle fatigue damage, the stress analysis of valve chest has peformed using FEM. Automatic turbine startup to assure service life of CV was achieved using allowable ${\Delta}T$ limit curve.

  • The automatic turbine startup system provides turbine control based on thermal stress.   • Large valves for steam turbines of fossil power plants are exposed to a severe mechanical and thermal loading resulting from steam with high pressure and high temperature. Valve casings are designed to withstand such a loading. During the operation of a plant, temperatures at inner and outer surface of the casings are measured and steam flow is controlled so that the measured difference is lower than the maximum allowable value determined in the design stage. In this paper, a method is presented to calculate the maximum allowable temperature difference at the inner and outer surface of valve casings for steam turbines of fossil power plants. The finite element method is used to analyze distribution of temperature and stresses of a casing under the operating condition. Low cycle fatigue and creep rupture are taken into consideration to determine the maximum allowable temperature difference. The method can be usefully applied in the design stage of the large valves for the steam turbines, contributing to safe and reliable operation of the fossil power plants.

  • In this study, among the various types of plant equipment, valves, which are susceptible to water hammer, were selected as the diagnosis target. In order to effectively measure the vibration, an accelerometer was adapted for use in this difficult environment. The results showed that the maximum peak-to-peak vibration displacement caused by the action of water hammer on the valve was 21.40 mm, which would affect the structural stability of the valve and pipe. Meanwhile, the measured data was applied to the HIL simulator to verify the reproduction of the vibration. In the future, field data will be applied to the HIL simulator for the purpose of assessing the fatigue, durability and expected residual life of the plant equipment.

  • Liquid valve is divided into cylinder and liquid part or composed of a single body structure. It becomes a connected structure to cylinder head after inserting stainless(STS) shaft to Teflon packing. In injecting and intercepting fluid, working efficiency becomes low because of the top and bottom round trip operation the friction between Teflon packing and STS shaft fluid leakage, decline of working environment, and each part replacement. And so target value is unattainable in productivity liquid valve design, quality, and structure change are studied. In this paper, designed to solve the existing problems basically, to prevent friction of Piston by developing diaphragm linked with piston, to satisfy long life, and to provide the prevention of leakage. The objective of the study is also to prevent remains fluid at nozzle tip after dispensing fluid, and bell close with the suction function in piston retreating.

A Study on the High Pressure Pump Simulation Model of a Diesel Injection System (디젤 분사시스템의 고압펌프 시뮬레이션 모델에 대한 연구)

  • The high pressure pump of a diesel injection system compresses the fuel supplied at low pressure into high pressure fuel and maintains the fuel of the common rail at the required pressure level according to the engine operating conditions. The high pressure pump is required to operate normally in order to compress the fuel to a high pressure of 2000 bar during the entire lifetime of the vehicle. Consequently, a suitable design technique, material durability and high precision machining are required. In this study, the high pressure pump simulation model of a 1-plunger radial piston pump is modelled by using the AMESim code. The main simulation parameters are the displacement, flow rate and pressure characteristics of the inlet and outlet valves, cam torque characteristics, and operating characteristics of the fuel metering valve and overflow valve. In addition, the operating characteristics of the pump are simulated according to the parameter changes of the hole diameter and the spring initial force of the inlet valve. The simulation results show that the operation of the developed pump model is logically valid. This paper also proposes a simulation model that can be used for current pump design changes and new pump designs.

An Evaluation of Fatigue Properties on Dissimilar Friction Weld of Heat-Resisting Steels Used in Vehicle Valves (차량 밸브용 내열강재 이종 마찰용접부의 피로특성 평가)

  • The fatigue crack propagation characteristics were investigated on dissimilar friction weld of two kind of heat-resisting steels (STR3 and STR35) commonly used in valve materials for vehicles. A small circular artificial defect was machined to induce fatigue crack at bonded line, heat affected zone and base metal of the weld on the surface of the specimens. From the results of the experiment, the fatigue limits of the materials STR3 and STR35 were obtained to be 429.0MPa and 409.4MPa respectably. The STR35 base metal and 1.0mm HAZ specimens showed 190% and 82% higher fatigue life than STR3 base metal. And the fatigue life of 1.0mm HAZ specimen was shown 99% on STR3 and 29% on STR35 higher than that of their base metal. But the fatigue life of weld interface specimen was shown 18% on STR3 and 72% on STR35 lower than that of their base metal because of the weld interface separation.

  • 본 연구는 우리 나라 물공급의 60% 이상을 담당하고 있는 한국 수자원 공사의 수자원 관리 설비의 방식에 관한 연구이다. 특히 수자원 관리 시설의 대부분이 철구조물로 외부에 노출되어 있거나, 해수와 담수에 동시에 접해있기도 하며 끊임없이 화학약품에 영향을 받고 있기도 하다 이러한 매우 열악한 환경 하에 있는 대부분의 설비 및 철구조물들은 부식이 쉽게 되어 부식으로 인한 시설관리 및 경제적 피해가 발생하게 된다. 수자원 공사는 여러 해 동안 설비 보전을 위해 부식에 관한 많은 연구들을 수행하고 있으며 그 중 도장을 통한 설비의 방식을 주로 시행하고 있으나 이런 도장 방식이 체계적으로 정리되어 있지 않고 또한 도장 방식의 수명이 길지 못하므로 주기적으로 재시공하여야 한다는 단점이 있다. 알루미늄 코팅 방식은 알루미늄이 철 보다 부식 전위가 낮아 부식이 잘 진행되어 철 구조물의 부식을 방지하는 희생 양극 특성이 있다. 그러나 알루미늄 도장의 경우 시공 단가가 비싼 단점이 있어 시공비를 줄이기 위하여 알루미늄 도장전에 철 구조물의 표면을 전처리하는 공정을 개선하여 총 시공비의 80%를 점하는 전처리 비용을 절감하여 경제적인 도장 방법을 조사하고자 하였다.

  • In General, the hydraulic system of T-50 Advanced Trainer is applied to flight control system, wheel & Brake system and fuel system for aircraft operation. The hydraulic system is operation with pressure of 3000psi. and many mechanical parts which is operated by hydraulic system has been stressed in incomplete environment same as heat and friction. for example, Oil leakage had occurred in the shutoff valve of FFP used in a certain period of time. After study, The crack progressed by fatigue due to the irregular hydraulic pressure and vibration has been identified as the reason of oil leakage. This paper presents life cycle extension plans of FFP shutoff valve by configuration improvements of shutoff valve and FFP hydraulic motor.

A Study for the Improvement on a Fatigue Life for Cr-Si Alloyed Valve Springs (Si-Cr강 밸브스프링의 피로수명 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Valve springs with high fatigue strength corresponding to the incresement of working stresses, are required for the higher generating power and the better fuel economy of automobile engines. For this purpose, high strength oil tempered wires are being used. By a method of the high strength for the valve spring, modification of manufacturing processes is being applied. In this case, the cause and effect for the improvement of the fatigue strength has not yet been explained obviously. Therefore, in this report, comparison of fatigue life between valve springs of conventional processes with oil tempered wires and new manufacturing processes was made. As a result of the fatigue test, the fatigue life of the latter was attained maximum 7 times than that of the former. It was cleared that the improvement of the fatigue life was caused by difference of compressive residual stresses at depth of 0.2mm below the inner side surface of both valve springs.
