The eastern extension of the Cordilleran-type orogenic belt continues from southeastern China to the Chukot Peninsula through the Korean Peninsula. The Gyeongsang basin, located in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula and the Inner Zone of southwest Japan are characterized by extensive distribution of Cretaceous to Tertiary I-type calc-alkaline series of intrusive rocks. These intrusive rocks are possibly the result of intensive magmatism which occurred in response to the subduction of the Izanagi Plate beneath the northeastern part of the Eurasian Plate. The Jindong granitoids within the Gyeongsang basin are reported to be adakites, whose signatures are high $SiO_2,\;Al_2O_3$, Sr, Sr/Y La/Yb and, low Y and Yb contents. The major and trace element contents of the Jindong granitoids fall well within the adakitic field, whereas other Cretaceous granites in the same basin are plotted in the island arc ADR area in discrimination diagrams. Chondrite normalized REE patterns show generally enriced LREEs (La/Yb)C = 3.6-13.8) and slight negative to flat Eu anomalies. The mean Rb-Sr whole rock isotopic age of the Jindong granitoids is $114.6{\pm}9.1$ Ma with an initial Sr isotope ratio of 0.70457. These values suggest that the magma has mantle signature and intruded into the area during Early Cretaceous. The Jindong granitoids have similar paleogeographical locations, paleotectonic environments and intrusion ages to those of the Shiraishino granodiorites of Kyushu Island and the Tamba granitoids of San'yo belt located on southwestern Japanese arc.
Cretaceous intrusive and extrusive rocks in the southwestern part of the Yeongnam Massif are possibly the result of intensive magmatism which occurred in response to subduction of the Pacific plate beneath the northeast portion of the Eurasian plate. Geochemical and petrological study on the granitic rocks were carried out in order to constrain the petrogenesis of the granitic magma and to establish the paleotectonic environment of the area. Whole rock chemical data of the granitic rocks from the study area indicate that all the rocks have characteristics of calc-alkaline series in the subalkaline field. The overall geochemical features show systematic variations in each granitic body, but the source materials of each granitic body are thought to have been different in their chemical composition. The granodiorites distributed around Donggyori in the Bognae area (DGd) are different from other granitic rocks within the study area in the contents and differentiation trends of $Al_2O_3$ and MgO as well as in the contents of the trace elements such as Ba, Sr, Pb, Ni, Cr and Y DGd have geochemical features similar to slab-derived adakites such as high $Al_2O_3$, Sr contents and high Sr/Y, La/Yb ratios, but low Y and Yb contents. The major and trace element contents of the DGd fall well within the adakitic field, whereas other Cretaceous granites in the study area are plotted in the island arc ADR area in Sr/Y vs. Y diagram. On the ANK vs. A/CNK and tectonic discrimination diagrams, parental magma type of the granites corresponds to I-type and volcanic arc granite (VAG). Interpretations of the chemical characteristics of the granitic rocks favor their emplacement in a compressional tectonic regime at continental margin during the subduction of Pacific plate. The geochemical and tectonic features reveal that adakite-like signatures of the DGd were generated by the interaction of mantle peridotite and subducted slab-derived adakitic melts (caused by the thermal effect of ridge subduction), and which slightly modified by crustal contamination during emplacement.
The Cretaceous pink granites of the finan area, southwestern Ogcheon belt, are adjacently developed in the eastern part (Keg) and western part (Kwg) as stocks, respectively. Keg of rounded shape occur as mainly medium-coarse grained rocks, whereas Kwg of ellipsoidal shape occurs as medium-coarse grained ones with partly porphyritic and fine-grained textures. Miarolitic cavities of them are often seen and can be observed more frequently in Kwg than Keg. Rose and counter fracture diagrams of the two granites show that Keg and Kwg have more potentiality of non-dimension and dimension to non-dimension stones, respectively. Physical properties such as porosity and absorption ratio have 0.25% and 0.65%, and 0.43% and 1.11%, respectively, which could suggest that emissions of gas phase at later magma stages are abundant in Kwg than those of Keg. From the major and trace elements petrochemisoy, they belong to acidic, peraluminous and calc-alkaline rocks, showing that Kwg are later product than Keg of the same granitic parent magma. REE concentrations normalized to chondrite value have trends of gradual and parallel enriched LREE and depleted HREE. Eu negative anomalies of Kwg are far more severe than those of Keg, which suggest that plagioclase fractionation in Kwg was much stronger than that of Keg. In the magnetic susceptibility vs. petrochemical and modal parameters, they all belong to magnetite-series and I-types, and can be classified as weakly-moderately ferromagnetic rocks. And the above relations could suggest that their susceptibility values are more mainly depended on ferromagnetic opaques than ferromagnetic and paramagnetic assemblages (Bt + Ch + Ser + Op).
We carried out the sensitive high resolution ion microprobe zircon U-Pb age dating and whole rock geochemical analysis of granites in the Gudambong and Sainam geosites, Danyang Geopark. The granites crop out in the western and southern parts of Danyang County, and intruded sedimentary successions of the Yeongweol and Taebaek Groups, respectively. The U-Pb isotopic compositions of zircon from the Gudambong and Sainam granite samples yielded the Cretaceous intrusion ages of $90.4{\pm}0.5Ma(t{\sigma})$ and $90.0{\pm}1.5Ma(t{\sigma})$, respectively. The major and trace elements compositions of the samples showed an affinity of typical A-type granite, indicating their petrogenesis during the late stage of the Bulguksa orogeny or a tectonic dormancy. The geochronologic and geochemical results are identical to those of granites previously reported from the Cretaceous Muamsa and Wolaksan suites.

Mupung granite, which is located adjacent to Gimcheon granites to the north and Geochang granites to the south, has been known to consist of biotite-hornblende granite (Gbh), porphyritic granite (Gp), and hornblende-biotite granite (Ghb). In this study, we subdivided the Gbh of Mupung granite into biotite granite (Gb) and biotite hornblende granite (Gbh), based on petrological observations. The grayish Gb with medium to coarse grain and porphyritic texture contains a small amount of muscovite, but the hornblende and mafic microgranular enclave (MME) is not observed in Gb. On the other hand, MME can be commonly found in pinkish Gbh. The mafic minerals in Gbh are mostly hornblende and biotite. In the Gb in Mupung granites, the hornblende and sphene (which is the characteristic minerals in Gimcheon granite) are not observed. In addition, the trend of the changes in major elements of Gb in Mupung granites is similar to that of Geochang granites. These petrological characteristics suggest that the Gb in Mupung granite has a similarity with Geochang granite (than Gimchen granite). We also observed that the texture and composition of minerals of Gbh, as well as those of surrounding Gp and Ghb, are consistent with the characteristics of Cretaceous granites in Gyeongsang basin, rather than those of Jurassic granites in Yeongnam massif.
Previous age data were reviewed for 98 sites of Phanerozoic granitoids in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. Subduction-related granitic magmatism has occurred in southeastern Korea since Early Permian. In the middle part of the Yeongnam massif, arc-related tonalites, trondhjemites, granodiorites, and monzonites were emplaced during Early Triassic. After Middle Triassic continental collision in central Korean Peninsula, post-collisional shoshonitic and high-K series and A-type granitoids were emplaced in the southwestern Gyeonggi massif and central Okcheon belt during Late Triassic. Early Jurassic calc-alkaline granitoids are mostly distributed in the middle part of the Yeongnam massif and Mt. Seorak area, northeastern Gyeonggi massif. On the other hand, Middle Jurassic calc-alkaline granitoids pervasively occur in the Okcheon belt and central Gyeonggi massif. This selective distribution could be attributed to the change in the position of trench, subduction angle, or the direction of subduction. Most Cretaceous and Paleogene granitoids are distributed in the Gyeongsang basin, with the latter emplaced exclusively along the eastern coastline. Outside the Gyeongsang basin, Cretaceous granitoids emplaced in relatively shallow depth occur in the Gyeonggi massif and central Okcheon belt.
Igneous rocks occurring in the northwesern part of Keumsan area, Chungcheongnam-do were studied petrogeochemically. The geology of this area is composed mainly of the Precambrian biotite gneiss, age-unknown Ogchon supergroup, Jurassic biotite granite, and Cretaceous volcanic rocks, pink feldspar granite and quartz porphyry. The biotite granite is gradually changes to leucocratic nature by going from center to periphery of the rock mass. It shows variation, with distance from the center, in chemical components: $SiO_2,\;Na_2O\;and\;K_2O$ increase, whereas $Fe_2O_3,\;CaO,\;P_2O_5,\;MgO,\;and\;TiO_2$ decrease. Based on geochemical data, the biotite granite and quartz porphyry belong to subalkaline series and I-type. They show calc-alkaline differentiation trend. The biotite granite shows little negative Eu-anomaly pattern, whereas quartz porphyry show marked negative Eu-anomaly pattern, indicating that quartz porphyry was evolved further, when compared with biotite granite.
Emplacement ages for the granite plutons of the Jurassic and the Cretaceous times in the central Ogcheom Fold Belt were determined by Rb-Sr whole rock and mineral isocheon methods. In addition mineral ages for the plutons were determined by K-Ar and fission track methods. In turn, thermal histories and uplifting rates of the granitic bodies are elucidated from the isotopic ages. The Jecheon(~203 Ma) and Mungyeong(at lest~200 Ma) granites of the Jurassic and the Muamsa, Wolagsan and Daeyasan granites(~110 Ma) of the Cretaceous show high strontium initial ratios [$(^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr)_1$0.7100],suggesting that the granitic magmas have been generated by partial melting of crustal materials (S-type), or by mixing of mantle and crustal materials. Only mineral ages of the Sogrisan and Hyeongjebong granites (~90 Ma) were determined by K-Ar method, and petrogenesis of them were not defined yet. The two Jurassic granite plutons were cooled rapidly down to $300^{\circ}C$, right after the plutons were slowly cooled down since then, due to their deep emplacment. During the Middle Cretaceous period, the Jurassic Mungyeong granitic pluton was intruded and thermally affected much by the surrounding Wolagsan and Daeyasan granites. Accordingly the Rb-Sr mineral age, K-Ar hornblende and biotite ages of the Mungyeong granite appear to be reduced or reset due to the thermal effects above their blocking temperatures. All the cretaceous granites have been cooled much ore simply and rapidly down than the Jurassic ones below $300^{\circ}C$, owing to their shallow emplacement.

NMC Moland mine, which is classified as a contact replacement or skarn deposit, has been interpreted to have been formed by Daebo igneous activity which intruded into the Joseon Supergroup, because it is quite closely located to Jecheon granite. However, an alternative interpretation was recently suggested that the mine could be related with the hydrothermal fluid originated from Cretaceous granitic rocks, bringing about skarnization and Mo mineralization. Here we present an interpretation on the source granite of the mine based on the gravity exploration: the gravity anomaly, unlike the surface geology, shows that the Muamsa granite could be the related granite of the mine, because its hidden subsurface structure is expected to be more widely extended to surrounding area of the mine and deeper than the Jecheon granite.
Various skarn ore deposits of Pb-Zn, Fe-Cu, W-Mo and others are widely distributed in the study area which consists mainly of Cambro Ordovician calcareous rocks. The ore deposits are all in close association with specific types of granitic rocks of mid-late Cretaceous age according to the kinds of ores: Fe-Cu deposit with granodiorite-quartz monzodiorite, Pb-Zn deposit with granite-granodiorite, W-Mo deposit with granite, and Mn deposit with quartz porphyry. The granitic rock of Fe-Cu deposit has lower content in K and higher in Ca than those of Pb-Zn deposits. On the contrary, the granitic rock of W-Mo deposit has much higher content in K and lower in Ca in comparison to those of Pb-Zn deposits. However, the granitic rock of Mn deposit shows similar variation to those of Pb-Zn deposits. Lithophile trace elements of Sr and Rb tend to vary in close relation with major elements of K and Ca, respectively. In good contrast, chalcophile elements of Cu, Pb, Zn, Wand Mo are enriched in the granitic rocks of their ore deposits, and other trace elements of Ni and Co show a trend to vary in relation with Mg, Fe and Cu, which have the same replacement index (0.14) as Ni and Co. Average K/Rb and Ca/Sr ratios of the granitic rocks range nearly within 300~150 and 150~40, respectively, and the distribution pattern of the ratios is different according to the kind of ore deposits: Fe-Cu deposit is plotted toward K-Rb poor region whereas Pb-Zn and W-Mo deposits toward K-Rb rich region. In contrast, Fe-Cu and Fe deposits are plotted toward Ca-Sr rich region whereas Pb-Zn deposit toward Ca-Sr poor region. The variation trend of chemical elements of the mid-late Cretaceous granitic rocks in the study area is similar to that of the Cretaceous granitic rocks in the Gyeongsang Basin. Therefore, this geochemical result may be applicable to determining what kinds of ore deposits a Cretaceous granitic rock is favourable for, and whether it is productive or non-productive for systematic geochemical exploration works.
