  • Battery heat management is essential for high power and high energy battery system because it affects its performance, longevity, and safety. In this paper, we investigated the temperature of the 18650 Lithium Ion Battery Module used in a Energy Storage System (ESS) and the cooling method to minimize cell-to-cell temperature variation of battery module. For uniform temperature distribution within a battery module, the flow direction of the coolant in a battery module has been changed according to the time interval, and studied the effect of the cooling method on the temperature uniformity in a battery module which includes a number of battery cells. The experimental results show that bi-directional battery cooling method can effectively reduce the cell-to-cell temperature variation compared with the one-directional battery cooling. Furthermore, it is also found that bi-directional battery cooling can reduce the maximum temperature in a battery module.

  • An electric excavator consumes battery energy to drive an electric motor attached to a hydraulic pump to generate hydraulic power. In a conventional hydraulic excavator, the hydraulic pump is controlled by regulators, which are used to optimize the diesel engine efficiency. Because of a lack of battery energy capacity, an electric excavator controller should consider not only the electric motor efficiency but also the hydraulic pump efficiency. Thus, electric motor and hydraulic pump efficiency maps were constructed. An optimal operating map (OOM) was created based on the most efficient operating points under each input condition. An integrated control algorithm controlled the speed of the electric motor and displacement of the hydraulic pump according to the OOM. To confirm the utility of this algorithm, a model-in-the-loop simulator for the algorithm with an electric excavator was established. The simulation results showed that the integrated control algorithm improved the energy efficiency of an electric excavator.

Hybrid Main Memory based Buffer Cache Scheme by Using Characteristics of Mobile Applications (모바일 애플리케이션의 특성을 이용한 하이브리드 메모리 기반 버퍼 캐시 정책)

  • Mobile devices employ buffer cache mechanisms, just as in computer systems such as desktops or servers, to mitigate the performance gap between main memory and secondary storage. However, DRAM has a problem in that it accelerates battery consumption by performing refresh operations periodically to maintain the stored data. In this paper, we propose a novel buffer cache scheme to increase the battery lifecycle in mobile devices based on a hybrid main memory architecture consisting of DRAM and non-volatile PCM. We also suggest a new buffer cache policy that allocates buffers based on process states to optimize the performance and endurance of PCM. In particular, our algorithm allocates each page to the appropriate position corresponding to the state of the application that owns the page, and tries to ensure a rapid response of foreground applications even with a small amount of DRAM memory. The experimental results indicate that the proposed scheme reduces the elapsed time of foreground applications by 58% on average and power consumption by 23% on average without negatively impacting the performance of background applications.

  • The electric power system based on fuel cell is applied in various forms to the ship and offshore plants. In particular, a research on the hybrid power system of the fuel cell combined with battery in connection topology has been researched actively. Fuel cell-based hybrid ship has not been carried out research, it is not carried out research in the integrated monitoring system. In this paper, we developed an integrated monitoring system to increase the convenience and stability for the hybrid fuel-cell ship operator. Research into integrated monitoring system based on GUI (Graphic User Interface), in consideration of the stability of the user convenience and ship operations, and developed communication and hardwired signal with the main equipment of the ship, to see in realtime state of the ship. The collected ship operation data is stored and it can be seen after the ship operating.

  • Traditionally, electric power systems have been known as the centralized structures, which is organized into placing customers at the end of the supply chain. However, recent decades have witnessed the emergence of distributed energy resources(:DERs) such as rooftop solar, farming PV system, small wind turbines, battery energy storage systems and smart home appliances. With the emergence of distributed energy resources, the role of distributed system operators(:DSOs) will expand. The increasing penetration of DERs could lead to a less predictable and reverse flow of power in the system, which can affect the traditional planning and operation of distribution and transmission networks. This raises the need for a change in the role of the DSOs that have conventionally planned, maintained and managed networks and supply outages. The objective of this research is to designed the future distribution operation system with multi-DERs and the proposed distribution system model is implemented by hardware-in-the-loop simulation(HILS). The test results show the normal operation domain and reduction of distribution line loss.

휴대형 당도판정센서를 이용한 배의 당도 판정

  • 과수원에서 재배되는 배는 과수원 내의 위치, 시비, 토양 등의 요인에 따라 다양한 품질을 나타내며, 당도와 숙도의 편차가 크기 때문에 과수농가에서는 경험에 의존하여 적정 숙기로 판단되는 배를 수확하고 있다. 그러나 과학적이지 못한 사실에 기초한 수확 관행은 시장유통되는 배에 대하여 소비자들의 신뢰성 저하를 초래하게 되고 소비 감소와 더불어 농가 소득 감소로 이어지게 된다. 최근, 전국의 청과물 산지유통센터에는 근적외선을 이용하여 과일 내부의 당도, 산도, 결함 등을 실시간으로 판정할 수 있는 비파괴 선별기가 보급되고 있으나 이는 수확이후의 선별.규격화 유통을 위한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 이와는 달리, 수확 이전, 즉 재배 단계에서 배의 당도와 숙도를 판정하여 수확적기를 판단할 수 있도록 나무에 매달린 배에 대하여 가시광선과 근적외선 반사스펙트럼을 측정할 수 있고 이를 이용하여 당도와 숙도가 판정가능한 휴대형 센서를 개발하였으며, 개발된 시작기를 이용하여 당도판정의 가능성을 시험하였다. 휴대형 당도판정센서는 광원과 광섬유프로브, 광검출부, 당도판정부, 전원공급부로 구성된다. 광원은 할로겐램프(6V)를 이용하였고, 광섬유프로브는 동심원 형태로서 외부의 광섬유를 통하여 광원에서 시료로 빛이 조사되게 하고, 내부의 광섬유를 통하여 광검출기로 확산반사되는 광이 전달될 수 있도록 하였다. 전원공급부는 휴대와 충전이 가능한 배터리(12V, 2AH)와 이 배터리에서 정전류가 광원으로 보내어 질 수 있도록 제작된 회로로 구성하였다. 당도 판정을 위하여 518nm에서 1046nm의 파장대역에서의 반사스펙트럼을 이용하였고, 레퍼런스로써 백색 테플론 구를 제작하여 사용하였다. 수원 농산물 도매시장에서 판매중인 2002년산 신고 배를 구매하고, 시작기를 이용하여 총 113개의 배에 대한 반사스펙트럼을 측정하였다. 다음으로 굴절당도계로 당도값을 측정하고 반사스펙트림을 이용하여 당도값을 예측하기 위한 부분최소제곱회귀(PLSR)모델을 개발하였다. 여기서 모델의 정밀도는 교차검정법을 이용하여 검증하였다. 시료 표면과 광섬유프로브와의 접촉상태 불균일, 광원의 시간에 따른 경시 변화, 과일 형상의 차이 등에 의하여 측정된 반사스펙트럼은 상당한 변이를 나타내었으므로 이를 보정하기 위하여 반사 스펙트럼은 다분산보정처리하여 이용하였다. 당도 예측용 PLSR모델 개발의 결과, 모델의 결정계수($R^2$)는 0.67, SEC는 $\pm$0.4brix.로 나타났으며, 교차검정에 의한 미지 시료의 예측에서 총 113개의 미지 시료에 대한 결정계수는 0.57, SEP는 $\pm$ 0.46brix.로 나타났으며, 이는 현장에서 충분히 활용가능할 것으로 판단되었다. 금후, 전체 시스템의 부피와 중량을 줄이고 각 부분품들의 전력소모의 최소화할 수 있도록 개선할 계획이다.

  • Recently, the mass production of Energy storage system (ESS) is actively perform around world. Energy storage system is a technique that stores power to energy storage device to supply energy into grid and load at peak-load. Therefore, the efficient energy management is available by using ESS system. The life of Lithium-ion battery is varied corresponding to the power usage, especially selected depth of discharge (DOD). The lifetime of battery is the one of the most issue of the ESS system because of its stability and reliability. Therefore, lifetime management of battery and power converter of ESS module is required. In this paper, the battery lifetime management method estimating residual power and lifetime of lithium ion battery of ESS system is proposed. Also, total avenue prediction of ESS system is simulated considering the total lifetime of battery.

  • The grid-interconnected microgrid can be able to operate with and without the utility microgrid to supply electricity. when the microgrid operates in grid-connected mode, the frequency of the microgrid synchronizes with the system frequency. In this case, the frequency of the microgrid has small variation which is able to change the output of distributed generation with a droop controller. Thus, the small variation of frequency can make the distributed generation generate unnecessary electricity consistently. In this paper, we propose a frequency droop control with a dead band so as to prevent the distributed generations from generating unnecessary output while in grid-interconnected mode. In addition, a distributed generation can have a restoration control to restore the frequency changed by a droop control as a rated frequency. Also, we state the problem of restoration control with a dead band, and propose its solution when the microgrid operates in stand alone mode. We simulate the proposed droop control using PSCAD/EMTDC to verify the validity of the control.

  • Energy storage system connected to the grid has two functions such as the surplus power of a grid is stored in batteries or the energy stored in batteries will supply to the grid when the grid needs. The battery energy storage system consist of power condition system (PCS) for power supply and battery conditioning system (BCS). Lithium-ion batteries are mainly used. In this paper, the battery energy storage system connected to the grid described. The configuration of the 2MVA class power control system using water cooling and battery system are presented. And control method for the system and the output filter design method are proposed. Experimental verification of the proposed system is provided with 2MVA PCS and 500kWh BCS.

  • LEO satellites have many heaters for thermal control, such as bus module heaters, payload heaters and battery internal heaters. Some of these heaters are controlled by thermisters, and others can be controlled by flight software. These heaters are divided into various types of group according to the location, telemetry variables, flight software logic, power distribution, etc. Thus, it is difficult to find out which heaters are included in a certain group and modify heater control logic for a new/other software developers. This document describes about the general/special control logic for satellite heaters and groups/arrays for heaters.
